One man stands alone on ‘Idol’
Among the guys, Chris Daughtry pulls ahead from the wannabe pack
The men on this year’s “American Idol” tend to lack the star power of the women, but the final performance of this week’s semifinal round made it clear that at least one guy has the goods to win it all this year.
Chris Daughtry began the week as one of the favorites, then got a big edge on the competition with a strong performance to close the show. While most of his rivals were blah, he actually had the judges saying that his version of Fuel’s “Hemorrhage (In My Hands)” could go on the radio right now. Nobody else was anywhere close to being ready for the airwaves.
Simon Cowell even said that Daughtry’s performance was the standard the rest of the men needed to aspire to. Undoubtedly, all this means is that he’ll be slamming Daughtry next week with some sort of a Portuguese karaoke metaphor, but in the meantime the 26-year-old with the two stepchildren can at least relax during Thursday night’s show. It would be an upset to end all upsets if he didn’t make the cut.
