American Idol 10: Top 5 “Now And Then” – RECAP

This week on American Idol, the contestants were singing songs from “Now And Then.” This means they got to sing one song from now, and one song from then. How easy was that to figure out? Aha. Basically we get to hear a song most of us youngins’ know and like, and one our Grandparents probably listened too and we hate. If you missed any of the performances and would like to check them out, be sure to go watch the Top 5 Idol Performance Videos.

Sheryl Crow was the mentor this week. I’m not really sure why. Maybe because she’s kind of current, kind of has-been-ish?! Someone explain this to me. Not to mention I think of a horse every time I see her. AHHHH!

Here is my recap of the night along with hater-worthy snarky comments. Read, Comment, Like and all the good stuff and I’ll love you forever.

James Durbin (Now) “Closer To The Edge” by 30 Seconds To Mars.
Okay, when I was like 12 or 13, I SERIOUSLY dug this band. I actually loved them, and was probably going to marry Jared Leto. But, this particular performance was horrid. I really dislike the band now, and James singing this over exposed song just made it worst. I’m not dissing James, I’m just saying, he should have went with some Linkin Park or All American Rejects. Actually, he could have made a Fall Out Boy song NOT suck.

Jacob Lusk (Now) “No Air” by Jordan Sparks.
Out of all the songs he could have sang, he chose this one? Seriously Jacob? I was really hoping he would bust out with some Ce-Lo Green just for the pure shock value… But, well, that would make him cool and exciting, which is something he’s clearly trying to avoid. And please, Jacob, never grab your crotch on stage again. I don’t need that visual haunting my dreams. Oh, the horror. We all know Jacob has a big voice, but this performance took his voice to a whole new level of fail.

Lauren Alaina (Now) “Flat On The Floor” by Carrie Underwood.
This wasn’t horrible. But, I’m getting a bit bored with Lauren. Everyone thought she was the greatest thing since sliced bread when she first sang in her auditions, but now she’s just a mundane country girl. I did appreciate the fact that she pushed herself in this performance. I think she might be listening to the judges. Her hair extensions were total crap though. Too much!

Scotty McCreery (Now) “Gone” by Montgomery Gentry.
Let’s start this off by me asking, “Who the hell is Montgomery Gentry?” I’m a teenager; I listen to music a lot. Why do I not know this song, or him? That blew my mind. But, anyway. It was cool to see Scotty moving some more, and I’m starting to love those creepy looks he flashes in his performances. Not. Are those supposed to be sexy? He did well though.

Haley Reinhart (Now) “You And I” by Lady Gaga (Unreleased).
Levine thought it would be a good idea for her to go with a song that was unreleased because it would be something different. And of course Haley went with it. She even got to talk to Lady Gaga, which I’m sure was good for her. I think she did good with the song, but it was deff not my favourite by her. I think she would have been better going with “Dog Days Are Over” by Florence And The Machines. But, considering what a cool opportunity that was for her to talk to and sing Lady Gaga… I see why she went with that instead. I thought she looked hot, and those pants were EPIC.

James Durbin (Then) “Without You” by Motley Crue.

This song was hard for him to sing because it meant a lot to him. He almost made it through the song, but cried because of the meaning the song has to his wife and kid. Aww. If I had a heart I’d have cried too. It was a really depressing song. But, I’m glad he did that song. It was good. And he did good.

Jacob Lusk (Then) “Love Hurts” by Nazareth.
He was nervous about doing a “rock” song, why? Because all he did was take a rock song and turn it into a nasally church hymn like he does everything. Oh god this was horrible. And why does he squeeze his legs so tight together? He’s going to have his own moves. Like, Beyoncé. “That’s right; squeeze those thighs together, annnnnd dip down.” For only $59.95 you too, can dance like Jacob Lusk. This will be his career after he’s done with being on the Children’s Church Pop CD “Pop Church Music for Kids.” Oh snap. I’m funny.

Lauren Alaina (Then) “Unchained Melody” by The Righteous Brothers.
She did a good job with this song, but she’s 16, not 60. This song was just weird for her. She said this song was her parent’s song. But I thought that was “Don’t Wanna Miss A Thing?” I’m so confused now. I will say, she did look really pretty though.

Scotty McCreery (Then) “Always On My Mind” by Elvis.

Elvis is his thing now, yeah? He looked nice in his spiffy suit. But, the performance was boring. I’m not a huge fan of Country Music, but to say he can’t sing, is stupid. The boy can sing, I’m just not a fan of what he sings. I doubt he gets voted off though.

Haley Reinhart (Then) “House Of The Rising Sun” by The Animals.

She kicked major bum. That is all! And the judges FINALLY liked her.

Okay, well… they all did pretty well. I just wasn’t thrilled with song choices. I think Jacob Lusk or Haley Reinhart is going home. Haley is cool. But, people just don’t like her.

What are your thoughts? Who do you think is going home, or who do you want to go home? Leave your comments in the comment section below. Don’t forget to go Like the .

I voted for Haley A LOT last night. I hope it made a difference. I’d be OK with Jacob or Scotty going home. If Haley goes home after Casey (my fave) I might have to be grumpy at the show.

I hope James wins (since Pia got voted off) or Haley because they both deserve it and i think Scotty should go because he can only sing country.
