Adam Lambert Ring Of Fire Video 3-17-09
Adam Lambert on American Idol 3-17-09 sang the Johnny Cash Country song “Ring of Fire” in his own style. All the American Idol Season 8 Judges loved it with the exception of Simon Cowell.

Surprising !
If I would be entitle to sign one of the performer of the night, it would be him.
Original, guts, excentric, what else to say !

OMG… 30 years of listening and making music… I would give my left nut to be half as talented as this guys. If he goes home for being awesome, I’m done with Idol.

He fricken ROCKED it tonight! OMG! Loved it…
8 Blanca // Mar 17, 2009 at 11:43 pm
I was so amazed by his performance, I love Johnny Cash and I know he will approve of this Rock twist. My favorite Idol, love his authenticity. GO ADAM!!!
9 Karen Bergh // Mar 17, 2009 at 11:53 pm
it wasn’t country, but, hey, maybe Adam should have his OWN show!
10 Marissa // Mar 17, 2009 at 11:58 pm
to be really honest, it kind of turned me on. i got a little feverish!
11 Sue // Mar 18, 2009 at 12:03 am
I was reminded of both the Doors and Zeppelin. What an awesome performance. Who cares what those judges say – it was already said – this was a piece of art! Right on, Adam! I now know who I want to win this competition. I haven’t voted yet this year, but will start tonight.

Great job! I too am a musician, and I have the most respect for artists who stay true to themselves. Be who you are Adam, you’re an amazing and refreshing talent on the show.

Amazing!!
I am not his biggest fan, by any means, but that was incredible!
17 Dee // Mar 18, 2009 at 12:49 am
INSANE!! LOVED This!!! This guy is the next Freddie Mercury. Get him off Idol and signed. I want his CD.
18 Paul & Louise // Mar 18, 2009 at 1:44 am
I am 59 and my wife is 62, we watch American Idol, even though our grown kids tease us for it, because we love the show after they get through the initial silly season episodes. Now we love Adam, especially after Ring of Fire – we think even Randy Travis loves him, nail polish and all! What a great singer and performer!
19 Emm // Mar 18, 2009 at 1:47 am
Absolutely love it! We are middle-aged quite ordinary Canadians who grew up singing along with johnny Cash in the 50s and 60’s. We must admit that boy has lot’s of talent and will make it whether he is voted off or not. i rather enjoyed being lifted out of the earth plane to spirally throughout the Milky Way on the waves of his incredible voice. Bravo Adam!! Bravo!!

I was flipping thru the channels–I was bored last PM and was lucky enough to catch the Ring of Fire and that guy is brilliant and has guts to try something like that with an old time country ballad. He has taken the song with his art and made it into an entirely new wonderful version for the new generation. I loved it and will watch American Idol now (as long as he is on it)
22 Tom Cat // Mar 18, 2009 at 8:46 am
What originality! This is a win-win for Adam, I’m sure there are a lot of scouts watching this hottie!!!!! I have not seen this type of talent since I’ve started watching this show. He puts all but Allison in the category of boring.
23 Psych_Major // Mar 18, 2009 at 9:11 am
I am a huge Adam fan, but let’s give credit where it is due. The version he performed is the SAME version Dilana Robichaux performed on Rock Star Supernova in 2006. It wasn’t “his” creation and he acknowledged that to Randy Travis. He says in the interview, “I found a version with sitar…”. Check iTunes and you will see I am correct.
24 Jay // Mar 18, 2009 at 9:54 am
Are you all crazy?????????
That was horrible. I wont deny the guy can sing (better than most on the show) but that was just absolutely horrid. I fully expect him to do something before the season is over that “wows” me, but now it will have to be even more amazing because that sounded like refried shit. They need to break out with the steamroller because johnny cash is certainly rolling over in his grave.
25 Dark Elvis // Mar 18, 2009 at 9:54 am
Adam’s performance last night was mesmerizing! He reminded me a bit of Jim Morrison with a mix of Nine Inch Nails. His performance not only showed him as a great singer/performer, but also as a great musician. He was the one who came up with the musical arrangement for his take on Ring of Fire. AWESOME!!! Can’t wait for his first CD to come out.
26 Jay // Mar 18, 2009 at 9:55 am
elvis,
he did NOT come up with this arrangement.
He himself even said last night he got it from someone else.

Oh, this Lambert! Lo! Such musical sense (latency) as his is found once every decade!!! And true, may you be greatly fond of music, if you do not have higher knowledge of music appreciation, you may not be able to enjoy his magnificent sense of art. Like Mark Twain said, “Knowledge enhances enjoyment”. So if you are ready for BETTER enjoyment yet, go ahead and dive into the real art of music. Lambert is truly, purely all about the ART of music!
28 Sharie // Mar 18, 2009 at 10:24 am
UNFORGETABLE — Adam stayed true to himself last night — I’m talking about his choice of songs, “Ring of Fire”. It was amazing how he twisted it and turned it into a hot, strangely different, ‘Adamesque, song.’ I agree with Randy’s reflection of it being fresh, and modern. That’s what American Idol needs.
I love his smile and his little bit dirty, flirty ways. He is the best thing to come along since the invention of ice cream.
He is a COOL / HOT dude !
Sharie
29 Dharilla // Mar 18, 2009 at 10:27 am
Many people subconsciously refuse to REALLY LISTEN to the song just because of the middle-east intro. Music lovers should not be biased about politics! I try not to be biased when I am talking about art and music.

30 MHP // Mar 18, 2009 at 11:03 am
I agree he has an absolutely amazing voice. I can’t believe anyone would think Johnny Cash would love what Adam did to this song — Johnny’s not rolling over in his grave, he’s clawing his way out to stop Adam from singing this again!!!! The song made me want to run screaming into the night — I’m sure I’ll hear it in my nightmares from this day forward….my entire family of 6 was screaming “make it stop, make it stop” while he was singing it.
31 // Mar 18, 2009 at 12:01 pm
WOW – unreal. He is the next Jim Morrison of the Doors mixed in with Freddie Mercury – so talented. Some people just dont get it – he is so original and so hot – whether you are gay or not – makes absolutely NO DIFFERENCE !! I sure hope this track makes the radio stations too – everyone, not just Idol fans need to hear Adam singing this…..dont know how he will even begin to top this performance but cant wait to see him try!!
32 Idol Analyzer // Mar 18, 2009 at 12:07 pm
Not Adam’s best performance.. but a really good decision on his part. Let’s face it… he’s not a country singer, and he knows it. He doesn’t look the part, he doesn’t sound the part.
Rather than trying to sound country and failing, he left the judges and America with something a little more complicated to figure out. Simon hated it, but Randy loved it…. a really good decision by Adam Lambert
33 Tracy // Mar 18, 2009 at 12:44 pm
It seemed a bit….Satanic for my taste. But I didn’t know he could really sing THAT good. Some rock band is going to pick him up and make millions, I’d imagine.
34 Jayda // Mar 18, 2009 at 12:54 pm
He’s so friggin sexy! He made the song completely original to fit him. I think that this is one of the best Idol performances ever, and he’s this season’s David Cook. And he’s most certainly the best looking guy that I’ve EVER seen on Idol. Randy Jackson got it right when he said that he was like Edward Cullen. Oh yes, I agree. Maybe he’ll be MY Edward Cullen?
I like this version way better than the Johnny Cash version and I love Johnny Cash’s version. He made this song so sexy and, dare I say it, naughty =P He’s perfectly amazing and meant to be a singer.
35 Phoenix // Mar 18, 2009 at 1:01 pm
What a talent – one that spans generational demographics which is very hard to do. Lambert is original and amazing – Ring of Fire sounded like Zeppelin with a bit of Axle Rose, unbelievable. The judges had to talk it down because it was a million times more entertaining than anything else that has come off that stage this year. No matter how close they try to keep the competition, this year is over. The only thing I would tell him to do is give props to the band, TOGETHER they nailed that song perfectly.
36 Dharilla // Mar 18, 2009 at 1:39 pm
I agree with Phoenix. And I even suspect that your suspicion about one particular (biased) judge’s reason for putting down Lambert’s performance may just be correct. Lambert’s musical talent is so unbelievable that anyone less experienced or less talented than Adam needs to learn the transcendent sense of music. Like some people do not understand the complexity of difficult art pieces as Monet’s, “Ring of Fire” performance by Adam was indeed like “San Giorgio Maggiore at Dusk” by Monet.
37 alan M // Mar 18, 2009 at 2:27 pm
Adam’s performance, if it is still a “singing” competition, as Simon used to say, was clearly the best of the night. Wasn’t sold on Adam until last night. My wife and my young adults sons and I all really freaked out, this was the best performance we’ve seen on Idolatry in a long time!
38 sherry // Mar 18, 2009 at 3:33 pm
Johnny Cash must have been rolling over in his grave!
39 rock'n granny // Mar 18, 2009 at 3:42 pm
I’m a 59-year-old African-American grandmother living near Philadelphia who happens to be a rocker. Of all the years I watched AI the only CD I’ve purchased, to date, is Chris Daughtry’s. I can’t wait for Adam’s CD with this rendition of “Ring of Fire” on it. I think the purpose of the different genre nights are to see how the contestants will sing the songs as if THEY were singing AS STARS for their recording or on stage for thousands of their fans. They’re not really supposed to sing it like the original artists. There’re a lot of people that look at AI every year. Some like the comic element at the start of the season, the drama during Hollywood week, and the final judge eliminations to get the final 12 (this year the final 13). Once the voting begins by America, the real talents begin to emerge. I think Johnny Cash didn’t roll over in his grave or try to claw out of it to make Adam stop. Adam Lambert sang this song whose meaning became clear (at least for me). June Carter wrote this song while driving around one night looking for her husband. She was anxious, worried and HORNY. Johnny Cash sang it straight but Adam actually sang it the way June was feeling at the time she wrote it. Um, excuse me, but what do you think, “Love is a burning thing…makes a fiery thing…wild desire…fell into a ring of fire” means. What do you think she was writing about? SEX!!!…..Hello! In fact, the song she wrote should be given an “R” rating. It’s not Adam’s fault that Johnny sang it with a “G” rating. In my opinion, this was the first time I really heard the song where the meaning of it was so clear. Songs are not sacred things. They’re just words put to music. That’s all. Stop canonizing June and Johnny Cash. They were just people who loved each other deeply. Adam Lambert honored both of them by singing this song with such unusual passion. I think he should be the next American Idol.
40 Holly // Mar 18, 2009 at 3:59 pm
I LOVED it. I love this song by Johnny Cash to begin with. But I’m also an avid alternative rock lover. So this was just amazing for me. Plus Adam is a true master of his art. I get goose-bumps when he sings. He is by FAR in his own legue. I was very confused by the judges. I thought they would have loved it. It was overtly origional and very entertaining. Isn’t that what they always ask for? If they are trying to keep a level playing feild for all the contestants, like pheonix said, HAH! Impossible. He may as well have already won.

OMG! This guy is HOT HOT HOT!!!!! This has to be the BEST performance I’ve seen yet on AI. It was weird, freaky, and seductive.
44 Jim & Pat // Mar 18, 2009 at 6:00 pm
WOW! I have listened to it 30 times and it gets better and better everytime. Adam has the most amazing voice to ever hit the AI stage. His voice is like a drug you can’t get enough of. There are many differen Catagories of music like Rock, Country, R&B. Adam has created a whole new one for the world to enjoy I think they should create a Theatrical Rock catagory just for him. My wife and I are 50+ in age and love our God and children. This song was the farthest thing from satanical as you can get. It was BRILIANT. Go kick their A$$ Adam. PS: you definatlly dress for success!

48 Psych_Major // Mar 18, 2009 at 10:46 pm
Hey Skeeter, If you read the posts you’d see that I had already answered your question. Dilana Robichaux performed the song this way on Rock Star Supernova back in 2006.
Watch it here.
49 idol // Mar 18, 2009 at 11:10 pm
That was the worst idol perfomace ever. I know Cash is rolling over in his grave. I wish I could have voted against him to take some of his votes away. Thanks for ruining an amazing song Adam. I hope he gets kicked off soon. I HATED IT!!! Anyone that liked it clearly doesnt have any taste in music.
50 Dave // Mar 18, 2009 at 11:23 pm
I just listened to/watched Dilana Robichaux’s tryout for Rock Star SuperNova or whatever it was called. Yes, I would definitely give her credit (unless SHE heard it somewhere else) for giving the song an Eastern flavor, but I honestly think Adam took THAT ball and ran with it.
While listening, I kind of agreed with Simon, in the sense that I thought, “What The Hell Was That?” But more from the standpoint of, “WOW!! That is F&^*ing Amazing!! What the hell WAS that?!?!”
But I’ve been disappointed before.
I hoped Clay Aiken would win.
And Taylor Hicks?? Please!! Chris Daughtry was eliminated a few weeks before him. So I could be wrong, again.
Hope there’s no parallel, because Chris Daughtry tore up ‘I Walk The Line’ in a very original way!! But, if there is a parallel, then this dude will also sell shitloads of CDs. But Daughtry, as much as I rooted for him, and as good as he is, doesn’t have Adam Lambert’s range by any means. But I don’t think I’ve seen a contestant on A.I. that does or did. Ever.
Depending on what he chooses to record, this guy has Gold Record written all over him. IMHO
51 Erni // Mar 18, 2009 at 11:25 pm
What a hypnotizing performance! I am a middle-aged home maker and I understand nothing about music. However, upon hearing Adam’s Ring of Fire, my feelings were seized and tossed up and down by the high-low tunes in Adam’s voice!
52 acoma10 // Mar 18, 2009 at 11:37 pm
What more can be said of Adam. This guy rocks. His voice reminds me of Rob Halford (lead singer of Judas Preist). He could actually start the wave for the fun metal music that was back in the 80’s, but with todays twist. I can just imagine listening to his record and hearing the massive guitar riffs and the killer high notes and riffs. I think thats what is missing in alot of todays music.

My husband & I loved it. We both thought it was the best performance of the night. Thanks for my DVR so that we could watch it a few more times. Yes, it was country night but it is also a show where they always say take the song & make it your own. They said pick country & sing it. They didn’t say sing as if you were a country singer. Awesome Job Adam. Keep going. LOVED, LOVED, LOVED YA!!!

I’ve watched American Idol here and there during previous seasons and have had a few favorites (Carrie Underwood, Chris Daughtry) but have never been SO captivated by someone like I am now by Adam.. I eagerly anticipate hearing him sing.. and can not wait for him to actually come out with his own music. He’s original, creative, confident, different.. and all of that on top of being so incredibly gifted. Singers like him don’t come around very often he can’t be compared to anyone else on this season. Worth watching just for him.. wow

It was a fun performance, but hardly an original arrangement.
Melissa Kaplan did almost an identical arrangement of the song a few years ago. It was a free download on the Universal Hall Pass website for a while. She sung it better too.

74 Mike // Mar 21, 2009 at 8:20 pm
Adam Lambert’s version of Walk The Line was AWESOME! It might not have been his original arrangement but he changed it up a bit. But it was all him on vocals. That Dhliana (whatever) chick from rockstar supernova had the basic idea but it was in no way the same as Adam Lambert’s version not really even close.
As far as Chris Daughtry’s version of I Walk The Line that Daughtry “tore up in an original way” as Dave mentioned in comment #50. That was a note for note rip-off of Live’s cover of the Johnny Cash classic from their greatest hits Awake. He did that with some other song he covered earlier in that season. What ever happened to that guy anyways…oh well.

I makes no differance if your black, white, straight or guy, you have to admire the voice this man has. He is a true performer. He was born to be on stage. I would lay odds that there was not 1 person in the entire audiance that was not glued to his commanding performance, whether you liked it or not. This coming from a 50 yr old redneck who thinks quear is the taste of a stale beer. Like it or not, I think he will be the next Idol to dominate the charts in the very near future.
82 Dharilla // Mar 23, 2009 at 1:17 pm
Matt Giraud is like the American idol season 8’s version of David Foster, Adam Lambert is like AI’s version of Freddy Mercury. So it’s a matter of taste, really. One may like them both, but may like the other even more.
83 Faith // Mar 23, 2009 at 1:47 pm
I completely agree with Big Fans — #81 I do believe he is a true performer and deserves fans. But please — That rendition of the ring of fire was indulgent nonsense as Simon would say. Don’t just ruin a song like that. I was left stunned.

I love Adam but I absolutly HATE the version! He totaly ruined the song. I love the song by not his version. It was more comedy than singing! The only reason to buy this is so I could laugh at it! Johnny Cash is rolling in his grave after that preformence! I agree with Faith
85 Kathy // Mar 25, 2009 at 9:58 pm
Who is this guy! Adam is amazing! I hated listening to the judges after ‘Ring of Fire’ – and reading the negative reviews. Maybe you have to be a real rocker to have loved it. It was awesome! Can’t wait to hear more from this guy! I am a fan who cant wait to buy his CD!
86 Kathy Sherbert // Mar 25, 2009 at 10:57 pm
I thought this was the most artistic and amazing performance of the season. This was remenencent of some of the greats of the 70’s (Queen, for example). His vocals were amazing, and the tune haunting, which I thought was perfect for the lyrics. Yeah, Johnny Cash was great – don’t let your mind go there – this was a new song. Way to go, Adam.
87 Chellee // Mar 27, 2009 at 10:29 pm
Okay, so maybe Adam didn’t come up with the arrangement on his own, but the girl who did it before? Her voice is NOTHING compared to his. He still made it his own even if it WAS the same sitar version of the song. NO one can deny that while he maybe.. different.. He’s got an amazing voice. Fantastic range, and no matter what he sings, he’s makes you FEEL the song without dancing around or bouncing. This week’s song? Mo-town? LOVED IT! I hope he wins because that boy has TALENT!

Adam’s rendition of Ring of Fire has to be the most original version of any song that I have ever seen performed on AI. It is a haunting beautiful, sensual, sexual song. I was mesmerized by the performance, it gave me chills. I have listened to Adam’s version over 100 times. I know he choose to do a sitar version and I don’t know if he knew the meaning of the song June Carter co-wrote, but he gave his version the dynamics June actually meant when she wrote this song. The song is about a love that has the power to move a person to the point where nothing else in the world matters. Adam managed to convey all this in his rendition. I sincerely hope that Adam stays true to who he is now. Don’t let your upcoming fame forget who you are (and you will be a star). Looking forward to seeing and hearing you in the future.

I don’t think that song could be any better. Just brilliant! And Adam – that boy oozes sex appeal.

Oh god. That was so awesome. Best performance ive seen on Idol so far. That turned me on. oooooooh.
93 Meri // Apr 2, 2009 at 12:39 pm
adam has RE-defined the way i look and listen to music. his rendition of ring of fire will go down as one of the pivotal moments in modern music. it is so haunting and so beautiful, i can listen to it over and over and over again. he captured the essence of passionate love in a single song. wow. can’t think of someone else who has done that for me in such a powerful way.
adam already IS an icon. all he needed was a national stage on which to showcase his prodigious talent. i believe we have been watching the next musical phenomenon of this generation blossom before our very eyes. he is making music history and we are part of that.
what is most impressive is that people from ALL walks of life and ages are waking up and watching this young man, and AI, more than ever before. how a man can be this gifted, beautiful, and charismatic is difficult to comprehend. i just hope when he wins, the record companies have the sense to allow him to BE himself and not have to ‘tone it down’ for the recording industry, because everyone will lose then.
by the way, if you loved the ROF live version, check out his studio recording, it is different, but still stunning. AND ADAM, IF YOU’RE READING THIS, JUST REMEMBER FOR THE ODD PERSON WHO DOESN’T ‘GET’ YOUR STYLE, 10,000 OTHERS DO, LOVE YOU, SUPPORT YOU, AND WILL BE LINING UP TO BUY YOUR RECORDS. WE LOVE YOU!!!! <3 <3 <3

Obviously Adam is taking over the world. Look at the range of people who are profoundly affected by his talent: young, older, grannies, black, white, female, male. You have that “special something,” Adam and we love it! Yummy.
I must add that in addition to his incredible talent and innate hotness, Adam seems to be a thoughtful, considerate, polite, sweet human being. I was impressed by the fact that he helped Lil off the risers on one of the shows and that he acknowledged the band’s contribution to his “Play That Funky Music” arrangement. Very classy.
My daughter and I can’t wait to see him in concert. Let’s get his show on the road asap!
95 Mike // Apr 8, 2009 at 4:54 am
Normally, I hate A.I. and refuse to watch it. But, my girlfriend is really into singing and I sort of have to watch now. I missed this performance live, but my mom actually clued me into it. It is by far the best performance of the series. Not season. SERIES. I was firmly in the belief that Danny was a shoe-in until I saw this. And for the record, Johnny Cash’s original version sucks. (As did his train wreck cover of “Hurt”)
96 Phyllis // Apr 9, 2009 at 3:36 pm
I am a 64 year old mother and grandmother. I have watched Idol since the beginning and I have to say that I look forward to seeing and hearing Adam Lambert. I think he will be the next American Idol, and he will be a big star. He is the only one I have seen on Idol that I can’t take my eyes off. He is a wonderful and has big star quality.
97 Sharie // Apr 11, 2009 at 12:14 am
What’s the crack and rubbish about Johnny Cash surely wanting soemhow to get back at Adam Lambert for his unusual music arrangement of “Ring of Fire” ? If anyone cared enough to truly look into the matter and knowing Johnny Cash, they would have discovered that Johnny would have respected Adam’s right to take the song and make it is own. (Apparently, someone gave their permission for Adam to use the song in the contest.). Johnny always pushed the envelope in his long wonderful career in his performances, and put his Cash “traces” on the songs he loved to sing. He was his own man, the same as Adam is. Y’all are barking up the wrong tree in your version of the story. I know Johnny and June Carter Cash (she wrote the song) would give Adam their blessings. As for Adam’s performance of the song – it was Adam at his best. He took the song and made it his own, in the very far out way only Adam can do. LOVED IT AND LOVE ADAM – !!!!
Sharie, a new fan forever

I watched this performance after being introduced to Adam’s rendition of Mad World. That was good. Not great though. This performance was neither. I pray that I never hear it again. Awful.
99 Ryan // Apr 13, 2009 at 10:58 pm
Im not a big fan of American Idol but when i caught a glimpse of this video i could not stop watching it. His vocals at the end of the song is something I’ve never heard before. He reminds me of freddy mercury of course and hes got a better singing, darker sided axel rose swagger going… if that makes sense. You can tell hes got a niche for performing because every performance he jumps into a new character and pulls it off extremely well. He should stick to this is the type of music, i guess its considered like a goth/punk/hippster? Your really talented man dont listen to these clowns like anthony above me who dont enjoy this specific genre or can’t appreciate something completely creative and out of the box…

Adam, I love your music style, your style of clothing. I love everything about you.
101 ANN // Apr 20, 2009 at 1:05 am
Ring of Fire really is wonderful. I have watched Adam sing it several times. I understand what happened to Simon Cowel. Simon just could not get his head around it. When you watch and listen to Adam you have to open up your soul to his emotion and ride the wave. I have felt myself trapped in a dark tunnel often and listening to Adam I felt the possibility of being free to feel and free to be . Adam makes me feel like a warm light is shining on me.
102 mochalot // Apr 21, 2009 at 1:53 am
So many other bands are gonna record this version of the song that the people who wrote the song will become even richer. Go Adam!
103 Judy Kilgore // Apr 28, 2009 at 2:38 am
My husband Merle Kilkgore and June
Carter wrote the song “Ring of Fire”. They wrote it for Anita Carter, This young man’s rendition was very good and a cross between Anita Carter and Ray Charles which I think was one of the very best cuts. Merle and June would both be very proud of this young mans version,. I hope he records it on a CD . I thinik it will do very well for him. Judy Kilgore

What was Simon expecting? Have you ever heard Johnny Cash’s recordings of Ring of Fire? I probably dislike Johnny’s interpretation as strongly (if not more so) than Simon disliked Adam’s version. Fortunately, the song is timeless and allows for many different interpretations. For me, Adam’s rendering captures every sensual nuance with strength and clarity. As always, Simon is absolutely spot on in his overall judgment of Adam. He has said that Adam is a theatrical singer. Totally correct! It is Adam’s theatricality that allows him to command his emotions and his audience as gracefully as he does his amazing voice. I now have two favorite renditions of Ring of Fire – June Carter’s and Adam’s, each true in their own way.

HOT, HOT, HOT!! Adam sizzles with every performance. he is one of the rare contestants that can really, truly sing, and sing anything.
The mark of a TRUE singer is that they can sing anything and make it sound good. Adam would even top the charts if he sang “Row Your Boat.” He is musically gifted and I look forward to buying whatever CD he makes, no matter what the genre (except for rap, of course, because that is not sinning and it’s not even close to music)
110 emry // May 19, 2009 at 9:42 pm

Adam is a star, and should have won against Kris, but I guess people can’t really comprehend perfection.

113 Dewey // May 23, 2009 at 1:48 pm
He sounds like a chicken getting impregnated by a hoarse. This is awful, he sings these notes because he can’t hit the low notes like the original JC. Honestly, don’t look at the guy sing, just listen to it – sounds like a baboon dying in the forest. and he looks like a complete idiot
114 Cindabar // May 23, 2009 at 8:13 pm
Hey Dewey,
I think Hewie and Louie are looking for ya. This is a brilliant, DIFFERENT version of a classic song. It was not the intention to replicate Mr. Cash’s vocals, merely to showcase Mr. Lambert’s own vocal style. And that is a style that I and many others enjoy and appreciate.
Looking forward to the tour!
115 ZackAttack // May 25, 2009 at 10:58 pm
This is incredible. He definitely should have won this season. Chris was way too generic sounding… which is why he won. But Adam can truly pull of anything. He’s gonna make it big even with his loss. Absolutely amazing.

Hi I am Rachel and I do this thing in my school called American Idol. It is where you can perform just about anything. I have memorized how Adam sang this song, so I sang it for AI. I had my friends Eric, Erica, and Nichole as my fire. They circled around me waving there arms whistpering fiiire.I had a blast and I love performing it for people. If I met AI season 8 contestants, I would definitely perform it for them. Yay Adam!

All this time later I had to come back & find this performace. Exciting, heart pounding, thrilling! BRILLIANT performance by ADAM.
**He fully gives credit, and says he found the original arrangement–Dilana was great on that show, and the musical ARRANGEMENT is similar, however the VOCAL treatment here is TOTALLY Adam. Hers was all low register. The incredible range and twisting, slightly bending to minor notes and SOARING to great volume and high notes here are totally HIS — BRILIANT vocal and seductive intrraction with the camera were mezmerizing. This performance was pure showmanship at it’s BEST…and amazing unmatchable vocals. What a showman. This guy ROCKS.
121 Dannielle // Feb 23, 2010 at 4:27 am
When I hear this song I think slow, soft seduction that builds until it is all that you feel.
To me it says soft touches and fleating touches. For this version of the song i think of a passion that is all consuming.
I like Johnny Cash’s but when I hear that I think of passion that runs deep.
I love this one, with the range he uses and the cresendo’s that are in the song are fantastic.
I don’t know Johnny Cash but from this quat from his daughter I don’t know if he would be getting out of his grave to stop him or say congrat’s to him.
The younger people now know the words to this song. This song is about love AND passion. Adam Lambert’s version of this is song tells the same message but the way Adam sing this tells of a slow and sensual side of love and passion.
Thank you Adam Lambert for this great version of Ring of Fire.
Quote:
Cash’s daughter, Rosanne has stated, “The song is about the transformative power of love and that’s what it has always meant to me and that’s what it will always mean to the Cash children.”

Just heard Sleepwalker as performed on Leno. It was amazing. Just perfection in a song. This perked my music desire to hear ROF again after all this time. Have to say it sounded and felt better than the first time. This man is a musical genius. He totally sexualized the song and captivated his audience by pulling them in to his fantasy. Those, like Simon, who did not grasp the meaning, are obviously uncomfortable with this display or erotism. For me and clearly most of the rest of the world, it was just an incredible experience I will want to experience forever. Keep ‘em coming Adam. Don’t let the basta*ds get you down. We appreciate what you are trying to do, and your talent is unworldly.
126 Willie // Jul 14, 2010 at 12:38 pm
Great song. Not an original Lambert version, but he did a great job covering the arraignment.
My question is – if they say do a country song – isn’t that because the idea is to see your range?
Most country songs could be done with a rock, pop or even operatic arraignment. But didn’t they actually want him to do a Country arrangement as part of the process?
He was good – but he didn’t follow the guidelines.

Paul, most people aren’t comfortable with eroticism for many reasons. But the main reason is that eroticism takes no skill to act upon. And Adam Lambert is extremely un-sexy. Listening to him is like spilling coffee on yourself.
