If you’re reading this, it means you aren’t out celebrating St. Patrick’s Day today. I wondered why they decided to air Idol tonight, for two hours no less, but maybe at least everyone will be wearing some green. Well, grab a green beer, and let’s see what happens on tonight’s episode!

Tonight is country night…yee haw! I can not WAIT to see Lil Rounds and Adam Lambert sing some country songs. And Megan Joy (who has dropped her married name, “Corkrey”)…caw caw!

This week’s mentor is Randy Travis.  He’s diggin’ up bones.

Michael Sarver is first, the country guy, so he should hopefully do well. He’s singing “Ain’t Comin’ Down Til the Sun Comes Up” by Garth Brooks.  Is it really sad that I know every word to this song?  Randy said it was fun but didn’t show off his vocal capacity.  Paula said it was the genre that suited him.  Simon said he didn’t understand a single word he was singing.

Allison Iraheta is singing “Blame it on Your Heart” by Patty Loveless.  She was pretty rockin’!  I remember loving that song as a kid. Not so much now.  Kara said she made the song her own, which wasn’t easy to do.  Paula said it was a rock-solid performance.  Simon said it was good, if a little bit tuneless in parts. Randy said it was dope.

Kris Allen is next, singing “To Make You Feel My Love” by Garth Brooks.  I really thought it sounded pretty, even without the guitar.  Paula said she was pleasantly surprised.  Simon said he thought it was terrific.  Simon called him a tender dog.

Next is Lil Rounds, singing “Independence Day” by Martina McBride.  I’m starting to like her a little more, but she seems off-key.  Randy said it was an ambitious song choice but that it didn’t feel comfortable.  Paula thought everything about her was spot-on tonight.  Simon said it sounded like a girl who was forced to sing a song she didn’t like at a wedding.

Adam Lambert is up, singing “Ring of Fire” by Johnny Cash.  Wow, it was so…interesting, and I LOVE Johnny Cash, but I actually liked it!  Kara said it was strange, but she liked it.  Simon said, “what the hell was that?” and that it was “indulgent rubbish”.  Randy said it was like Nine Inch Nails doing a country song, it was current. Memo to Randy: Johnny Cash did a NIN song, and it was a little better than that! I’m iffy on this one.

Scott MacIntyre is singing “Wild Angels” by Martina McBride.  He sang at the piano again, which Paula said he should ditch.  Simon said she was disrespectful.  He also said he was choosing songs were not good enough.  Simon said he should choose riskier songs.

Next is Alexis Grace, who looks like she really is ready for the Grand Ole Opry with her bedazzled outfit! She’s singing one of my favorite songs ever, “Jolene” by Dolly Parton.  Randy said it was a good song choice but wasn’t a great performance.  Kara thought it was a little flat.  Paula liked it and Simon thought it was okay.

And now I get queasy…Danny Gokey is singing “Jesus Take the Wheel” by Carrie Underwood.  It was actually better than I thought it would be.  Simon said he hated what he was wearing.  Randy said it was blazin’ during the choruses, but the verses were a little pitchy.

Anoop Desai is singing “Always on my Mind” by Willie Nelson.  I’m biased, but this was the best of the night so far.  Simon said he just went from Zero to Hero.  Simon’s favorite performance of the night.  Simon said the arrangement was dope.  Kara also said it was the best performance of the night.

Next is Megan Joy. She’s singing “Walkin’ After Midnight” by Patsy Cline.  Randy said he thought it would be a trainwreck, but he liked it. Kara said it was amazing that she did great for having the flu.  Paula said the flu made her fantastic.  Simon thought she should have the flu every week.

Last is Matt Giraud, who is singing “So Small” by Carrie Underwood.  Kara said “there ain’t nothin’ small about you” and that he was amazing.  Simon said he hasn’t gotten enough credit for his vocals and that he outsang Danny.  Randy called it his favorite performance of the night.

Best of the night:  Anoop!, Matt, and Kris.

Worst: Michael, Lil, Adam, and Scott. Who did you like/dislike this week?

Do we have enough room for my mouth-full?
Michael – He says he’s not country, but sounds like it to me. It was pretty safe and safe gets dull! I need to see a vocal standout from this guy
Allison – Randy T. is right. This girl has got a maturity level on her that you could not believe. Crazy vocals..just crazy! And Randy J is right it was dope!
Kris – Sweet honestly I really really liked it.
Lil’ – Oh man oh man. She’s got the pipes but I didn’t like this song on her at all! Come on girl you can do better than that!I am used to that fullness in her voice being projected. I was disappointed. Simon was 100% right.
Adam – Strange is right. I felt like I was watching him at a theatre tonight. I was not feeling that. I can admit when he brings it to town, but that was so far out there to me that I don’t know what to make of it.
Scott – (Yawn….) How long did Paula and Simon argue over this guy? Too long. I was yawning before, now I have fallen asleep. But you know this is the Scott that has been there all along and now they want to see more. Freakin’ judges!
Alexis – The first half I wasn’t impressed but the second half she stepped it up. Still there was something funky (not in a good way) about this performance. It just was so not Alexis. I hope she makes her comeback next week.
Danny – I thought it was great and I thought the jacket looked fly Simon! Honestly I did. He wasn’t the best tonight, but the audience said it all
Anoop – Thank you! This is the guy I loved from the beginning at his first audition. The Anoop I knew was always there rose up tonight. He really saved himself and reignited the hope so many had in him. My fave tonight, but not overall.
Megan – I wasn’t with the judges on Megan. She looked absolutely stunning and poor thing is sick. I just heard a few pitch problems there. I’m sure due to her sickness. I like her style but it was allright.
Matt – (sigh) You are so cute dude! Anyhow I thought he was hot! Yes and I am thinking he is making his way up the ladder so some guys are really gonna have to watch their backs.

    Enough said! Good night people!
