American Idol Top 8: Songs From Movies – RECAP

It was “songs from the movies” night on ‘American Idol‘ and who doesn’t love movies? I know I do. Except those really cheesy, predictable romantic comedies that are supposed to make you feel good when they’re really just soulless pieces of CRAP with no real substance or meaning. You know, kinda like the judges’ comments. Aha!

Here is my recap of the nights show, and my opinions. Deal with ‘em.

We got to see all of the dramatic-ness of Pia Toscano’s exit from the Idol Building. J-Lo was bawling over that fact that there was nothing she could do about Pia leaving. Oh, how horrible is that? Who else is still so excited by the fact that she left?
Ryan Secrest gave a huge congratulations to J-Lo for being named World’s Most Beautiful Woman. Which I mean, she’s pretty, but c’mon? I think getting that title means you’re old. Just saying! And why did Randy look like he belonged in an all-boys Catholic School? Hmmm?

Onto the contestants!!!

Paul McDonald | Sang, “Old Time Rock And Roll” | Movie, “Risky Business”
He’s one skinny dude. I never noticed he was THAT skinny. My god boy, EAT! The outfit and the performance was (as usual…) just weird. But, YAY Saxophone girl. She was cute! I liked her; she needs to come out more often. Who either loved or hated Paul’s suit? It was… memorable!

Lauren Alaina | Sang, “The Climb” | Movie, “Hannah Montana”
“16 year old Lauren taking on 18 year old Miley.” – Ryan. AHA! That made me laugh. I’d like to see Lauren take on STONED Miley. Bring it on byotches! That song wasn’t exactly vocally challenging for her, but she did really well! I adore her. Jimmy Lovine told Lauren she’s a better singer than Miley, which nearly shattered Lauren’s grip on reality. Aside from telling Lauren to “bury Miley” with her performance, he also told her to pick at the rotting remains of Pia Toscano’s fan base and steal her votes. But I thought Pia had no fans, which is why she got cut last week. This show is so confusing.

Stefano Langone | Sang, “End of the Road” | Movie, “Boomerang”
He’s a whiner. He’s still upset about Pia Toscano being voted off. Aw. How sad is that. However, J-Lo did say he was the sh*t. literally! So, after his performance he was all confident and talked a lot. He bums me out.

Scotty McCreery | Song, “I Cross My Heart” | Movie, “Pure Country”
Why does he sing out of the side of his face? And hang his body off to one side too? It bothers me. But, he did really good with the song. It felt a bit generic after last week.

Casey Abrams | Song, “Nature Boy” | Movie, “Moulin Rouge”
He weirded it out. But in a good way. I wasn’t really sure what that song was about, but it seemed fitting for him though. Yes, the performance was good, but not worthy of bringing all the judges to their feet.

Haley Reinhart | Song, “Call Me” | Movie, “American Gigolo”
Lookin’ like a stained glass window out of a church, Haley went with “Call Me”. I thought she would actually pull it off. But, it was just okay.

Jacob Lusk | Song, “Bridge Over Troubled Water” | “Pursuit Of Happiness”
He got told not to preach, and what did he do? He preached. I sincerely wish Jacob would lay off of the inspirational crack and just calm down for one performance.

James Durbin | Song, “Heavy Metal” | Movie, “Heavy Metal”
HE WAS SO LOUD AND SCREAMED THE WHOLE TIME. BUT, I HAVE TO SAY IT WAS WAY MORE EXCITING THAN THE REST OF THE PERFORMANCES.

Oh, the show was so boring. I hated every second of it. But, I hope you guys had fun. What did you think? And who was yoru favourite performer? Leave a comment in the comment section below.

Saying Lauren is better than Cyrus is sort of an insult. And yes, Pia has fans–people with musical taste.

I love your recaps….yes, they may be somewhat rude at times but you are brutally honest. I dont agree with all your opinions but i look forward to reading them each week.

I think Paul went shopping in Porter Wagoner’s closet.

I like your name! Oh, you don’t have one!

    Truuuuuuuue!

I was insulting Cyrus. And yeah, but did they vote?

Thank you dear! We all have a right to have our own opinions… and some people forget that. But, I think Stefano, Paul and Casey will be the bottom. But, you might be right.

    LMAO!

I love Haley she has been my favorite from the start I think her performance was great I love her unique voice. But I also like Stephano and Scotty. I believe paul, casey, and jacob should or will be tonights bottom 3. But I think its just time for jacob to go home.

Stefano surviving the next cut will be an insult to the American taste and intellect.

I have loved Paul since day one. He has a voice for the new generation. He almost sounds like a teddy geiger… and others. Maybe even The Script. He’s amazing and has such personality. The way he moves is awkward, but entertaining and funny. It’s just the way he is. Lauren Alaina is my 2nd favorite. Again, I’ve liked her since the auditions! Scotty is just a great artist and he does have weird moments, but who doesn’t? Everyone has their quirk. Those 3 are who I would love to see go all the way! I actually vote 400 times every week for each of them. Stefano & Jacob just really need to go. ASAP. I usually go in another room when they sing. I’ve just never liked them. Two people that didn’t even make the top 24 that I thought would go all the way…. are Tim Halpern and Chris Medina. I mean, really? Have you heard either of their voices? Their incredible. I replay Chris’ new song everyday. He was my favorite since the start :)

Paul sounds like Macy Gray, dressed like Elton John & dances like Elaine from Seinfeld.

Casey was the only one I liked last night. He did sound more like he was on the Grammy stage than Idol.

Haley’s still my favorite, but she was just “ok”. She does have that rare sexy huskiness in her voice that is awesome!

Love your take on the show!!! Kinda’ like having Simon back!!
You are right on the money, with your comments this week….. Honestly though, Casey has to go!!! P…LEASE!! The judges are so coaching viewers with their comments! What do they think?, we are thick?(british) for dumb!! Such a farce…..
    Loved Scotty, James & Lauren!!!

  • 13 Jim // Apr 14, 2011 at 6:09 pm

    You are a complete ASS!!!!!!!!

  • 14 Karen // Apr 14, 2011 at 6:13 pm

Idol had become so boring and mainstream and the idea was supposed to be that the winner could go on to be, you know, an IDOL. Like his style or not, Durbin is the only one with a ghost of a chance of being more than a flash in the pan and getting picked up by a decent band. The rest are too limited and predictable.

Oh my god. Funniest thing ever! You’re right about Paul though. Ahaha.

Last night was so boring. Aha. My article sucked. But, I will have another tonight. You’re right though. The judges comments have just become irrelevant.

If there weren’t any asses in the world… there would be no where for your head to be.

I agree. I do think Scotty has a chance in the country world however.

  • 16 lynneytee // Apr 14, 2011 at 7:19 pm

you do not have to be so rude to give a recap

  • 17 Karen // Apr 14, 2011 at 7:40 pm

Yeah, I guess that I don’t know much about what appeals to the country music folks. I’m always surprised that Lauren and Scotty do so well so I must be underestimating that audience. I don’t think that there’s any question that everyone left is talented so I think that at this point it’s pretty subjective and depends on what genre(s) you like. I know that they aren’t bad but I tend to go out for a smoke when Stephano or Jason sing, Paul and Casey are just a bit too odd for me to think that they would make it, Haley is hit and miss but James nails it on a pretty wide spectrum of rock music. He’s making such amazing contacts in his area like Tyler and Zakk Wilde that I think he’ll go far whether he wins or loses. Maybe I live in a rock and roll bubble but I can’t imagine anyone else being able to pack a house on a long-term basis if he gets the right exposure from this.

He needs Sharon Osbourne to adopt him :)

In the beginning of American Idol people get chosen for their voice. Then along the way they get chosen for their looks, but eventually it comes back to who has the great voices. We are down to the top ten, which means that each individual has to have at least some what of a great voice. What makes this year hard is the many different genres presented…country from Scotty, rock from James, alternative type rock from Paul, Jazz from Casey, etc. Each one of them have their own unique voice that is great, but what its going to come down to is what type of genre has the most fans. Everyone is bias, because they have their own favorite type of music…so their going to say the person singing their genre is the best. I love all different types of music, so I can recognize the talent in all of their voices. If you don’t see the talent, lets see you go up there and attempt any of the songs they are and be half as good…oh, that’s right, you wouldn’t be…that’s due to the fact that none of you would make it as far as them…your the ones that would probably get cut the first audition..the ones that all of America laughs at for even trying out (everyone thinks…”why didn’t their families tell them they couldn’t sing?”…”why would their loved ones let them make such asses out of themselves?” lol). Anyways, it is a shame that Pia got cut, she had an amazing voice and great looks, but a guess there’s just not that many fans interested in the Christina Aguilera type music anymore…you know…the artists who have the large vocal range and can truly sing their hearts out. In the end though, its not worth feeling sorry for any of the top ten that get cut…they all get to go on the summer tour! And if their good enough they will get record deals anyways.

Its time for Mr lusk to go back home and become a deacon at his churh and direct the choir! I enjoyed listening to paul sometimes but watching him was rather painfull. I think casey is by far the most creative out of the bunch. The fact that there are so many different personalities this year makes it very interesting. I see lauren winning.

Paul sounds like rod Stewart to me…he is so unique though, don’t fret because this is not a tragic ending, but the beginning of something beautiful.
