American Idol 10 Solo Round Recap

Part 3 of Hollywood Week consisted of all these crazy wannabe Idols singing SOLO to try to prove, once more, that they don’t suck and deserve that American Idol Title. Ah, let the horror begin… or I guess it did long ago. Oops.

Here is my recap of American Idol Solo Round 2-17-11.

They started out talking about crap we didn’t care about. And how tired the contestants were. Well, no kidding. Why do they have to start so early anyway? Do those judges really have anything better to do? I don’t think so. But, nonetheless, it was time for those contestants to hit the stage. This day they even got to use instruments, the backup band, or go acapella. I was hoping some of them could play some rad instruments like… the bag pipes. Oh wait, that would be like Lee DeWyze last year… only he couldn’t actually play them.

First up was Haley Reinhart. She was one of the many that forgot her words during Group Week… but still got a second or third chance and preformed “God Bless the Child”. I’d be content if she left. But, we didn’t find out till later. Ohh, that sucked.

Ashton Jones was then up. She tried to be Jennifer Hudson, only suckier apparently… She sang, “I’m Telling You”. I wasn’t sure if this was a performance in the Idol competition, or an audition for Dreamgirls. Either way, it was fail. Mooooving on.

Uber cutie, Thia Megia sang “It’s A Wonderful World”. I like her, but there’s a piece of me that thinks she isn’t that good of a singer. I’m not sure what it is. But, I knew she would make it through either way. Most of the kids will make it a ways.

There was some randoms and then they soon moved on to the “more important ones”.

Chris Medina developed a friendly rivalry with Carson Higgins when the two each chose to perform “My Prerogative”. Of course, both of them are completely opposite. One is a whack job, and the other is boring. Who just LOVES Carson? I’m sorry. I think he’s rad. And he talked his way through the song, and although he doesn’t have a good voice… he’s still cool. Chris? He has a cool story and all, but in reality, he’s just another Andrew Garcia. One trick pony… Meh.

Didn’t that moron Clint Capt’n Belly Lint preform? I must have missed him, or maybe I just didn’t care. DOUUUCHHHEEEEEE! Anywho.

Some pimp people who had other sorts of musical talent, like, playing an instrument came up to perform. That was, Julie Zorrilla, Caleb Hawley, Colton Dixon, Brett Loewenstern, Robbie Rossen and Casey Abrams. ONE THING. The rest of them were all okay, and I’m glad Robbie can play an instrument, because it makes me like him WAY more… but Casey was the only memorable one. He ditched the Melodica for an upright bass and had an EPIC performance of “Georgia on My Mind”. That was cool. He kind of reminds me of Taylor Hicks though… gross.

Although Casey was the bomb, it was Jacob Lusk’s over-the-top performance of “God Bless the Child” that brought the judges up off their arse for a standing ovation. WHAT? Nah, man. But, for people that like Jacobs’s kind of music, I guess he’s amazing. It made him cry though. And his cry scares me, it’s all giant sounding. Like if the Troll from Harry Potter busted into tears, that’s what it would sound like. AHHHH!

Next up was one of my favourites, and possible winner, Lauren Alaina. She kiiicked bum singing one of Stevens songs, “Don’t Want To Miss A Thing” which she sang WITH Steven in her auditions. But, this time she got to actually sing more of it. Which was cool! Of course she killed it, in a good way. And she looked really pretty.

John Wayne Schulz was up next. He sang, “I’m Getting Older Too” which was weird. I didn’t like it that much, because his voice isn’t that good. But, for some reason I find him attractive. For an old dude.

OH GUESS WHAT?! Ashley Sullivan had another mental freakin’ breakdown. What a shock! I still adore her. I think her and Carson would make some seriously epic serial killer babies. She tried to sing to her boyfriend, which made her screw up, apparently. But, even when singing to the judges, she still failed. Holy… she’s just. Oh well, she has a supportive boyfriend. That’s always nice.

Stefano Langone, Jovany Barreto and Jacee B preformed. Aside from the fact that their names are on this piece of paper in front of me… I have no idea what they did, or sang. Obviously nothing exciting. *Awkward*

Scotty McCreery was up next. I wonder what he was going to sing. I was really hoping he was going to sing the same song as before… and before that, and even before that. BECAUSE, that would have made me so happy. But instead, he tried to change it up by singing “I Hope You Dance”… and when I say “tried” I mean exactly that. He messed up the words. But, not to feel bad, so did this one chick who sang it something like this. “I hope you eat fuel, and never lose that sense of hungry.” Well, I’m pretty sure Fuel is an appetite suppressant. Although what do I know? I’ve only eaten fire, never fuel exactly.

Well, now that’s over. Who is going home, who is staying?

The contestants have 4 rooms to pick from, 3 of the rooms have bombs in them… DUN DUN DUUUUN! Aha. If only that’s how it went. That would be exciting. Or maybe it could be interactive and we could vote who gets blown up. Wait, are the police going to come get me for saying that? Will I be able to fly after this?

Nah, but you know the drill. Room One had, Ashley, Jacee, Brett, Robbie, James, Casey and Lauren in it. So, of course they were all going through. Wait, ASHLEY? What the…? O_O

Room Two and Room Three got told to GTFO. Succckksss.

And Room Four with Scotty, Carson, Julie and a few other well knowns got told YES. They were going through. How exciting. Why did Scotty and Ashley make it through?

What were your thoughts? Leave a comment below. Do it… Do it now. NAO!

Jacob has to be a drag queen by night. That was just incredibly over the top.

Caleb Hawley is my object of lust this year. I hope he sticks around…

Music Nazi here with a couple of issues:

“I’m Telling You” is “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going”

“It’s a Wonderful World” is “What a Wonderful World”

“I’m Getting Older Too” is “Landslide”

“I Hope You Dance” is “Nuts of Wonder” :)

I had the DVR it and I’m just now watching the show. I just seen Casey Abrams with the big stand-up bass and, man, that dude just blew me away.

I’m still watching it but if I don’t get to see Paul McDonald this time I’m going to start an American Idol protest.

I think they let Ashley through because they really think she is capable of greatness, if she can get herself under controll. I hope Celed is in for the long haul too because I really like him. Casy is my pick to win.

Well, I would hope I know a little bit about music, since I also run a music blog. :) My favorite song is “Nuts of Wonder” by Scotty McCrappy, haha.
