It’s February 17, 2011, time for another American Idol 10 edition of Hollywood Week. Tonight it’s Solo Night. Last night we were strung along for two LONG hours while everyone fussed and fought and tried to pair in groups. About half of the golden ticket earners were cut, and we still have to trim the fat down to at least half to get our Top 40. So since tonight is only one hour long, maybe they’ll cut through all the filler and get straight to the singing! Let’s watch together and don’t forget to voice your opinions in the comments! Last night’s discussion was quite heated and very fun.
J-Lo has decided to let her hair down and not look like an extra from Dynasty tonight. Therefore, she looks pretty. She wavers back and forth it seems.
Ooh, I forgot that they can use instruments for their solo performances. Maybe this will be cool! First is 20-year-old Hayley Reinhart. She fumbled on the lyrics during the group performances. I can’t decide if she’s good or sounds like a cat in a blender. The judges seemed to like it, though.
Ashthon Jones is next. She’s Jennifer Hudson-y, singing…you guessed it, a song from Dreamgirls. She nailed it as well. Thia Megia also did well, for all the commenters from yesterday. She’s super-cute. I’m still not feeling her voice, but Boyfriend disagrees with me.
The girls have been doing great, so now it’s time for some baddies. Clint Jun Gamboa, the d-bag who kicked Jacee Badoux aka Chubby Biebs outta his group yesterday, impressed the judges with an Adam Lambert-esque version of “Georgia on my Mind”. Some other people start trying to sing that song too. Chris Medina and Carson Higgins decided to sing “My Perogative” by Bobby Brown. Carson is starting to become one of my favs. He’s like Normund Gentle. Who’s gonna be better? Chris Medina is doing an acoustic version, but Carson’s is more karaoke cool. I bet he owns the karaoke bar. I heart him. Chris’ version was kind of meh. He was disappointed in himself. He’s gonna have to put his fiance on stage with him so they don’t kick him out. That’s awful I know, but it worked for Danny Gokey. Well, Gokey didn’t put his wife’s corpse on stage (thank God), but you know what I’m saying.
Time for some contestants who play their own instruments, like Caleb Hawley, pretty Julie Zorrilla, Colton Dixon, Robbie Rosen, and Carrot Top Brett Loewenstern. They all excelled. Casey Abrams, the serial-killer-looking dude who had a melodica, has an upright bass for his performance. This might be a first on the Idol stage.
Jacqueline, the horrid blonde girl from yesterday, leaves the competition because she got sick (or probably missed her boyfriend). That only leaves Chelsea out of that little foursome, and she sucked.
Homegirl Lauren Alaina is singing “I Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing”, which she sang at her auditions. They showed her house, it looks like she lives near Bea’s, which means nothing to you, but they have the best chicken ever. She did good. Jacob Lusk sang, and he has a weird scatty voice, but they liked it. Then he fell to pieces like Ashley Sullivan.
John Wayne Schulz is next, and he’s good. Not like that other guy that only knows one song. He could really go far in country music. I like him…for now. But Ashley Sullivan is freaking out!! Are we surprised? No. But I think we’re all kind of shocked that she’s still here. She’s kind of nasal, then she messes up the words. Then she has another breakdown. Wow, this chick is fun to watch. Too bad she’s probably going home tonight.
Stefano Langone does some Stevie Wonder, and Jovany Barreto sang some Marc Anthony, and Jacee Badeaux sang…something. They all do pretty okay, but they could be better. Scotty McCrappy has to sing a different song from that “Baby lock them doors and turn the lights down low” song and he makes up the words, singing something about “nuts of wonder”, which was pretty awesome. Didn’t we know he was a one-song pony? Some other girl messed up that song, too. It was “I Hope You Dance”, by the way. But I’m going to call it “Nuts of Wonder” from now on. Scotty thinks he should go home. See, even he knows he sucks.
Judgment time!
The Idols are locked into different rooms. Room one has Brett Loewenstern, crazy Ashley Sullivan, Casey Abrams, James Durbin, Clint Jun Gamboa, Lauren Alaina, and Jacee Badaux. They are all going through, including Crazy Ashley. WTF?!
This means the other rooms are freaking out. Room 2 and 3 are next, and they are going home. That means Chelsea, the other Gutierrez brothers, and some other people I don’t remember or have seen are saying goodbye to their 15 seconds of fame. Room 4 is last. They make it through, including Scotty McCrappy, Carson, Julie Zorrilla, and Rachel Zevita. So, Scotty and Ashley are still here, which is ridonkulous. Next week they’re singing the Beatles. So soon? Crazy! Next week we’re getting our Top 24! Who’s excited?!

My sentiments exactly. They really rushed those cuts, I’m not sure who all made it or went home but the two worst people stayed. Most of the ones we’ve come to like stayed too, except Chelsea, but she wasn’t so good anyway.

Fantastic sounds, amazing talents in AI2011. Better than all the other AIs. Where are all the talent scouts? Stop hunting and grab the totally freaking talented singers – why waste time going thru all the rounds of absurd voting, voting which were never based on talents but on mere looks.
