Welcome to the February 16 2011 American Idol 10 live blog! It’s still Hollywood Week (which apparently lasts like a month on TV). This week is the group sessions. Last week Ryan ominously said, “favorites will fall, and new stars will emerge!” Or something like that. So maybe that means we’re about to get rid of some of these people we’re already sick of and start hearing about some new people. Wow, we the people have really short attention spans, 15 minutes of fame is taken quite literally on American Idol!
So anyway, let’s get on with the show!
Group week, group week, everyone is going to hate each other and start stabbing each other or something, which is what Ryan is alluding to. Star pasties girl can’t make friends for Group Week, aren’t we shocked! Why are we all so surprised that people who have to cut throats to be a future solo star can’t play well with others? I mean really, what’s the point of group week. Know what I’m sayin’?
That Josh Turner wannabe can only sing that one song. Someone get him off the TV already singing that stupid song. Please commence your commentary in the comments, because I’m not sure how this live blog is going to play out apart from “blah blah blah, people fighting, yada yada, people having melt downs, blah blah, Ryan being smarmy about it.” So please carry on.
Can I get away with just posting the rest of this blog in the comments section? No? Well, okay. Some people are having issues finding groups that will have them. The groups that are together are practicing their song-and-dance. Since when did Idol care about choreography? They’re practicing in bathrooms because urinals have nice acoustics. I’m ready for some singin’.
This just in: Crazy girl “Idol needs pop-meets-Broadway” Ashley Sullivan just left the show! Everyone else seems to be crumbling under the pressure, too. Back from a break, and Ashley is still freaking out, but the producers suggest she take a time out with her boyfriend. Scotty Mc”one song”Creery is not feeling the love from his group, which includes Chubby Biebs Jacee Badoux (sp?). But instead of kicking out Josh Turner Jr., they kick out Chubby Biebs, which was dumb since he’s one of the best singers we’ve seen.
Ashley gets her fix and is NOT quitting the show. Chubby Biebs joins up with Carrot Top, Brett Loewenstern and the Sugar Mamas.
Finally, we’re onto some singing. The first group, featuring Pia Tuscano, Allesandra Guerico and Briele van Hugel avoided the drama and nailed their group performance. To the next round they go.
Jordan Dorsey left his group, 440, and joined Robbie Rosen’s group, 4+1. That was probably a smart move, since Robbie’s one of the favorites. They’re all through to the next round.
440 sings “Forget You” and they sound pretty good. Singing that song was a good move. They’re also all through to the next round. 3 groups in a row, that means we’re getting some baddies after the break! Including the “death of one of our favorites”, per Ryan. If they actually start offing the contestants, this might actually get pretty interesting. 
Star Pasties, Tiffany Rios’ group is next. She sounds all over the place. She makes her partner, Jessica Yance, sound amazing. Tiffany’s hair is so sparkly. They both go home. Darn.
Spanglish is missing a group member, who is chillin’ in his hotel room sans shirt. While they wait for Spanglish to assemble, Steven Tyler shows off with a drum solo. Fun times. Spanglish finally performs, and the girl is good, but the guys are kind of meh. Karen and Giovanni get through, but Kevin and Vest Guy go home.
Rossville GA girl Lauren Alaina’s group is next. There’s a girl who can put a noodle into her nose and make it come out her mouth. Winner Winner Chicken Dinner! They ask Steven to come on stage and sing to him. Despite the cuteness of the routine, Lauren is the only one who got through. I thought they were pretty good.
The next group, including country boy Matt Dillard, was terrible. Hey, where’s John Wayne? Colton Dixon is the only one to get through to the next round. This incites a baddie montage, and the baddies are BAD. Even Paris Tassin, who’s been good up to this point, was terrible. She’s sent packing too. One of the Gutierrez brothers also went home.
Crazy Ashley Sullivan’s group follows a lot of baddies, and after all the trainwrecks, they sound pretty good. They sang “Hit ‘Em Up Style” by Blu Cantrell, and they all get through! Broadway-meets-pop could still happen people!
James Durbin, aka Adam Lambert 2.0, leads his group in a Queen song. They kind of suck. But you know, there’s a market for that screamy stuff. And now that Idol’s over, I kind of like some of Lambert’s songs. So will that fare well for Durbin? He gets to stay, but Emma Henry from earlier auditions goes home.
The second Queen-covering-group was MUCH better, and they all get through, but I don’t know any of those people. Maybe they’ll stick around long enough to equate their names with their faces.
You can probably just stop reading this and go straight to the comments section, which has been totes fun tonight. This is what I love about writing for Idol Mania. But I’ll keep chugging on up here in case anyone gives a crap.
More terribleness after the break, including Hollie Cavanagh, and they let her through anyway! I don’t know why they don’t think she’s awful, because she is.
Ebony, Ivory, and Every is singing a capella. This might have been a better plan if any of them knew how to sing on pitch. Pretty Julie Zorilla (?) and Casey Abrams are the only ones who make it through.
Another group tries this same schtick with the same song. They’re a lot better. They all get through, including Jacob Lusk and Naima Adedapo.
Next is 4-non-blondes and That Guy, which includes a few favorites, like Chris Medina, Caleb Hawley, Devyn Rush, and Carson Higgins. Singing waitress Devyn Rush is the only one that goes home. Devyn is the singing waitress, right?
Next it’s time for Chubby Biebs and Carrot Top. Their group is Sugar Mama and the Babies. They’re hoping the judges will show them some “Mercy”. After a pause, they all get through! I think CB and CT should be the #1 and #2 at the end. What do you think?
Next is Scotty McCreery, aka “I only know one song” Guy. His group starts out strong but starts falling apart towards the middle, then picks back up at the end. Holy crap, they all make it through. Turn the lights down low, because Josh Turner Jr. is here for another week. Good gravy.
Time for the ex-couple and the lovebird who lost her psycho boyfriend last week. They all hate each other. Jacqeline is awful, and Rob pretty much sabotages his chances. They think it’s funny, but the judges aren’t laughing. Chelsea’s the only one with any hope. Or so I thought, but apparently Rob was so bad that he made Jacqueline seem good. The girls are through.
And just like that, the night is over! Tomorrow is solo rounds. Come back then for more fun and more rantings!!
