Tonight is Part One of the American Idol 9 finale! It’s down to Crystal Bowersox and Lee Dewyze. Who will get voted off tomorrow? Who will win American Idol Season 9? Who will make it big in the record industry, and who will be playing to crowds of 10 at their local mall in a year? Let’s evaluate tonight’s performances and find out LIVE together, shall we?
Aww, isn’t it kind of sad that this is the last week we will all be together? I will miss you guys! But don’t worry, there will still be plenty of Idol Mania to keep you sated between seasons! (If there IS a next season, that is. And if there isn’t, maybe there will be an X-Factor Mania? Either way, where you go, I will go. Hopefully not in a stalker-way. My parole officer has been giving me lots of tips on how to keep my distance.)
Here are some spoilers from the comments (via Idol Man)
Both Crystal and Lee will each sing 3 songs. The first song is their choice, the second was chosen by Simon Fuller and the third song is the one that will be released by the winner.
Crystal chose “Me and Bobby McGee” for her first song. Fuller had her sing “Black Velvet.” As for the song she’ll release … it’s called “Up to the Mountain.” Crystal stopped dead in her tracks in the middle of the song and started over.
As for Lee, he chose, “The Boxer,” and Fuller selected “Everybody Hurts.” As for the song he’ll release if he wins … it’s called, “Beautiful Day.”
As Lee finished “Beautiful Day,” a violinist accidentally hit him in the body with his bow. Lee was upset and walked off the stage …. even before the pretend judges could weigh in.
DIVAS!
Yea…”The Boxer” again. I am SO OVER Lee’s butchering of this song. It has no melody in Lee’s World, which is sad because Simon and G-Funk were very…melodious. Ellen said he did it better than he did the first time. Kara said she wanted him to “come even more”. Pervert. Simon said that Lee kissed him on the cheek when he wanted him to kiss him on the lips. Um, it’s Lee, not Adam Lambert!
Crystal’s dad is the real winner of Idol. I ::heart:: Crystal’s dad. She is singing “Me and Bobby McGee”. Because, you know. It doesn’t take much to sound better than Janis Joplin (not dissin’…just sayin’). She sounds pretty good….very Crystal-y, which we’ve come to know and accept and maybe even love. Randy said she should make a record like that. Kara said she had fire in her belly. Um, I think that’s called acid reflux. Simon thought it was terrific.
Round two is producers’ choice. Lee is singing “Everybody Hurts” by REM. You know I love me some REM…I’m from Georgia, after all! They did that music video in artist Howard Finster’s garden, which is about two minutes from my house. And yet I’ve never been. Oh, Lee. Yeah, it was uninspired for me. Michael Stipe FTW. Randy thought it was better than “The Boxer”. Simon said he needed to give him a ten out of ten.
The producers chose “Black Velvet” for Crystal. She sounds good on this one! It’s a little rough in places, and the bad is bad, but the good is good. Kara said she needed to kill herself (on stage). Simon said she nailed it.
The finale singles are remakes?!?!?!?!?! I guess they realized how sucky Kara’s songwriting skills were! Lee is singing “Beautiful Day” by U2. Good luck comparing to Bono, one of the best male singers EVER! Well, it’s looking like we have a new American Idol, and her name is Crystal Bowersox. Lee has sung three beautiful songs tonight, and all three totally lacked conviction. More conviction, less sideways mouth! Two seconds before Simon mentions he’s personal friends with Bono. Kara said he had some good and bad moments, but he has one of the most commercial voices from the season. Simon said he was a great guy. ??? Nothing on his singing?! Simon’s on his way out the door…he totally doesn’t give a crap anymore.
Crystal’s final song is “Up to the Mountain”, which is a song by Patty Griffin (hearts), and covered by Susan Boyle. Crystal nails it with this one. It’s gospel-inspired, and it suits her. She wins. She gets teary-eyed at the end, and I want to roll my eyes, but it really is a beautiful song. Randy said it was a perfect performance at the perfect moment. Ellen says she will follow her wherever she goes. See, I’m not the only stalker! Simon said it was by far the best performance and song of the night.

I wanted these guys to be in the finale, but I’m thinking they would have been better off going out Chris Daughtry style, so they could actually make it.

That’s pretty much what I did, Deb. We watched Seasons 1-5 all together right before the Season 5 finale and then have been watching them normally ever since. It definitely makes more sense if you watch them together!
