American Idol 9 Top 3 Live Blog 5-18-2010
The top three Idols are singing songs picked out for them by the judges tonight. The contestants are singing two songs tonight, one song their choice, the other is judges’ choice. Will there be sabotage this year? I’m going to say yes if Simon has chosen Crystal’s song.
Dude, singing already? Casey James is up first and is singing his choice: “Okay, it’s Alright with Me” by Eric Hutchinson. He sounds pretty good, for Casey. The judges are going to slam him tonight to ensure a Crystal/Lee finale. Randy said it was just “Okay, alright” with him too. The word “Alright” instead of “All right” bothers me. Kara said he shouldn’t have picked a song that people haven’t heard. Simon said he was like the salad before the meal.
Crystal Bowersox is singing “Come to My Window” by Melissa Etheridge, as The Boyfriend says she sings every week. He’s always like, “Why does every song sound like ‘Come to my Window’?” Has she not done this before, seriously? Randy didn’t like the arrangement, but it was a good song choice for her. Ellen said she was in her comfort zone. Kara said it was good but she didn’t have a “moment”.
Lee Dewyze picked “Simple Man” by Lynard Skynard. He’s probably doing the Shinedown version, aka the “sitting on the toilet” version. It’s not too different, though Lee’s is a little better. Randy said he had what it took to WIN THIS THANG! Kara said that Round One goes to Lee. Simon said his song choice was “on the money” and that he crushed the other two.
Kara and Randy (because together, they equal half a judge, maybe) picked “Daughters” by John Mayer for Casey. He’s a good guitar player like John Mayer, and he’s cuter, but he’s not as good a singer as John, which is saying something since Mayer isn’t really known for his great singing ability. Randy and Ellen thought this was really a great song choice. Kara loved it as well. Simon thought it was also a better song choice, but that it was a lazy arrangement.
Ellen picked “Maybe I’m Amazed” by Paul McCartney for Crystal. Crystal kind of screamed through it. She sounds better than Casey, but doesn’t hold a candle to Sir McCartney. The judges went gaga over it. Simon was surprised by the song choice, but he got it in the end. He says she’ll end up in the final.
Simon chose “Hallelujah” by Leonard Cohen (fastly becoming Idol’s most overused song) for Lee. Will he be able to hold a candle to Tim Urban? Well, he started out okay, but by the end I was pining for Simple Man again. Who out of these people should actually win? Probably Lee. But dude. I could take or leave any of them. Let’s just get this season over with already! Randy said that was his biggest moment ever. Everyone else loved it. Welcome to the finals, Lee.
Okay, so I’m not even going to ask…Lee was the best this week. Goodbye, Casey!

, how about Ikea? Not sure you’ll find the quirkiness you want, but it’s fairly reasonably priced. A lot of their stuff is veneer or birch, not your expensive cherry, oak, etc. May be a 5 year solution that you could quirkify with accents. Haven’t seen their line-up in a while though, and also not sure if they are in your area.

Oh, I’ve been drooling all over Ikea lately. They are all the way down in Atlanta though, so I’ve never been. We’ve been talking about taking a trip down there soon, but gotta save money for DC and hopefully getting to meet some of my lovely Idol coworkers! – I hope you’re not right about the whole West Coast voting for Casey. He’s not original – he LOOKS different than other artists. Sound-wise he’s not a lot different from Taylor Hicks – except he picks different types of songs.

Does anyone else take note that when Ryan is standing by the judges, after introducing them, that Simon ALWAYS takes a swig of (coke?) right off the bat?? I mean every episode he does this..I never see any of the others even sippin’ on their cokes, or Diet Coke, or Sprite, or whatever is in the glass?? lol just thought I would throw that in, as I am obsevant! LOL

I meant observant! sorry, I must be tired, its 2:30 am here, and I have been up since 7am…….so I am calling it a nite. Oh and BTW I am very glad that Crystal made the finals. I really wanted Casey also, UNTIL Lee FINALLY came out of his shell, and started smiling. The first couple of weeks had my doubts, as he never had any expression except, “oh crap, are they going to vote for me I wonder” look on his face. He really did start to shine the past 3 weeks, and I think that is why he made it! Casey? He’ll do alright, after all he’s got that gig back home waiting on him, for $50 and a free meal! Lol..naw all kidding aside, I think he will get a contract.
