American Idol May 4 Top 5 performance Live – Sinatra
It’s Tuesday night in May, therefore it must be time for American Idol. We are down to our Top 5 with the ousting of Siobhan last week. I will be your guest blogger Live for at least part of the show tonight if not all, based on our awesome writers previous engagements and non availability. So be prepared for a different kind of snarky, and opinions.
Tonight onIdol, the 5 remaining hopefuls will take on the songs of Frank Sinatra, the chairman of the board, the original Rat Pack leader, and known to only those over 35 at least. Ask mom or dad, if you don’t know who Sinatra is, was or have a clue. He was the original star to be know by only one name. Harry Connick Jr will mentor the Idols. Maybe you might know who he is? or not..
Based on spoilers the Top 5 American Idols on May 4, 2010 will perform the following songs, and in this order.
Aaron Kelly – “Fly me to the Moon”
Casey James – “Blue Skies”
Crystal Bowersox – “Summer Wind”
Mike Lynche – “The Way You Look Tonight”
Lee DeWyze – “That’s Life”

Well hello everyone! Your friendly Idol blogger Jebbica has strangled Idol Man Eric and has kicked him out of his seat to take over for the live blog. Okay, that didn’t really happen, but it’s a fun image, right? Aaron is going to be serenading us first. Since there are only 5 hopefuls left, there’s bound to be lots of commercials so brace yourselves (or pat yourselves on the back if you were smart enough to invest in DVR.).
Aaron Kelly is first and is singing “Fly Me to the Moon”. His hair looks much better tonight. His version is a little country, but Aaron still has a lot of honing to do regarding his skills as a performer. They are going to tell him it was corny, but this is Sinatra week, after all. Randy said it was really good. Kara said he needed more charisma. Simon said if Sinatra were a lion, then Aaron was a mouse.
Casey James has a friend who doesn’t watch TV and has no idea he is on American Idol. He asked Casey to play a gig with him that paid $50 and a free meal. Dude…I think Casey should have taken that gig. Free meal? You don’t Idol doesn’t provide that! Casey’s singing “Blue Skies”, or Bahhh Ski-i-i-i-i-ies, as it sounds like when Casey sings it. He looks snazzy, but his hair looks totally greasy in a ponytail. No me gusta. Where’s Shania? Because that don’t impress me much. Randy said it was his worst performance. Ellen is just going to insult Harry Connick Jr. all night, who is on the piano. She also said Casey was too stiff. Kara said at least he held some notes and called out his goat vibrato! Simon said the band was great but that Casey came off as awkward and embarrassed.
Crystal Bowersox is singing “Summer Wind”. She looks pretty…I love that dress! This Sinatra stuff isn’t good for me unless it’s someone like Sinatra or Connick or Buble singing it, so it’s not my favorite Crystal performance. But it’s the best one I’ve heard so far tonight. Ellen says she has many different sides. Kara liked her phrasing. Simon thought it felt a little indulgent.
Mike Lynch, smartly, is singing one of the more well-known Sinatra songs, “The Way You Look Tonight”. Surprisingly, this style suits him the best out of the contestants. And he looks good in a fedora. Randy loved the arrangement and Mike’s take on this song. Kara and Ellen loved it. Simon said this was the first performance that did Frank justice.
Lee Dewyze is closing the show with “That’s Life”. No one is doing “New York, New York”? It’s a Lee version, but he does the best he can with the type of song it is. He actually surprises me by singing some notes without his signature gravelly sound, and I like those notes. Randy loved it. Ellen was distracted by Harry’s organ. She also said that if this were the finale, then he would have won. Simon said it was the best of the night (well duh, he’s in the pimp spot).
Okay, I think Casey or Aaron might be in trouble this week! Who do you think did best/worst tonight?

Is it just Comcast that has a problem with the audio fee being synched up with the video? It’s actually a bit disturbing with the mouth doing one thing and the sound being another.

OMG, you know me so well. I know who Harry Connick Jr. is because I was him on Craig Ferguson, and he was actually really funny.
And Frank was part of the Ferret Pack, but ferrets are creepy, I got attacked by them when I was little.

I have Comcast. And I guess they got wise because now we only get the most basic channels. I’m good as long as I can get Idol live b/c the rest we can always watch on Hulu etc.

Crystal better keep her dreads. I hope they don’t try to turn her into something she’s not.
They’ll want to make her pretty, want her to fix her teeth… want her to lose weight. Want her to wear colored contacts… want her to get a boob/nose job…etc. The list will go one if she lets them mess with her.

I hear you Seth. Similar to what I saw happening with Siobhan. I liked her look just the way she was when she started the competition, I didn’t like the changes, she looked like she Olivia Newton-Johnned herself.
