American Idol Writers Discuss the Final 7
We all have different opinions, different thoughts and different perspectives on the contestants of American Idol. With 7 contestants left for the American Idol Season 9 and the Idols Gives Back Charity event this week, I decided to offer up the different perspectives from the our staff writers.
Lee DeWyze
Jebbica-
Seems like a nice guy, but we already have David Cook and Chris Daughtrey and Danny Gokey. Do we really need another Nickelback wannabe?
Cait -
I really (heart) Lee. I think he IS going to win, just because you hear allot of rockish stuff on the radio, and that’s probably the music he’d be singing. Which could be a bad thing, because maybe people are sick of that kind of music… but at least he’s current. And the young people like him, which helps him.
Eric-
Lee will probably shock us all and win the whole damn thing, even though Crystal deserves it. Lee’s raspy voice and decent looks and current rising in the judges favor positions himself for the famous darkhorse Idol win like many other seasons.
Lizaio-
Lee – I’ve liked him more and more every week, though I truly think it’s because he kind of started reminding me of my husband that week that he did “Treat Her Like a Lady” and therefore ceased to suck. I wonder how he’ll do now that his BFF has been voted off, and I wonder if he is just a really timid dude, or if he is truly devoid of personality.
Siobhan Magnus
Jebbica-
Siobhan–I am losing interest with her singing abilities. But, I like to see what she is going to wear next. Everyone thinks she’s a weirdo. But, Lady Gaga is a weirdo and that doesn’t stop her from selling a bajillion records and being in our face every five minutes….
Cait -
She has some serious pipes on her, and she can pretty much sing anything. But, allot of people I know, don’t like her because she’s odd. She’s not odd in a cool way either… its sort of creepy. I think she’ll go home at about 5th spot, people are getting bored/freaked out with her.
Eric -
I love Siobhan’s voice, but only when she is singing. I can’t stand to hear her do an interview. That alone will keep her from anything higher then 5th place. Her awkwardness, attire, and “weirdness” are an attraction and distraction all at the same time. She follows the beat of a Different Drummer. Unfortunately she doesn’t always hear the drum beats.
Lizaio-
Siobhan – I was best friends with the 1991 version of this girl in, well, 1991. She ends up getting a PhD and writing a really cool book, just so you know. She also has a really neat voice, cool style, and what my friend Katie has “lake teeth” and I like her, though the screechy screamy thing is lost on me.
Crystal Bowersox
Jebbica-
Crystal–Probably has the best chance to win this thing, which would be great, if this were American Idol 1995.
Cait -
I like her just about as much as Lee. I think she will be the runner up, because loads or people love her. She’s different (but not weird), she’s cool, and she has a voice most people like. But, allot of middle aged people like her, which isn’t bad. But, I’m not sure if they will vote her to the end.
Eric-
You have got to love Momma Sox’s Crystal, she is a breathe of fresh air in a sea of Idol mediocrity. Unfortunately she will not win this season, she deserves to win but will not…
Lizaio-
Crystal – Hands down, she is the most talented of the bunch. She’s AUTHENTIC. She’s REAL. Despite all the stupid buzz words from this season, Crystal is someone I’d want to hang out with. She is cool, and she can SING.
Mike Lynche
Jebbica-
Mike–Ruben Studdard 2.0. If Ruben couldn’t make it outside the Freemantle market, then I doubt Mike will either.
Cait -
To me, he is the most annoying contestant of them all. He seems very cocky, which I don’t like. Confidence is different than just being full-of-yourself. People do seem to like him though, but I’m not a fan of his voice. Then again, I’m not a fan of R&B.
Eric -
Mike basically should not have been saved. only Aaron and Tim are weaker contestants. He does have a compelling back story but the muscle man with the girly voice is just , just, just…..
Lizaio-
Mike – Cute, Teddy Bear, Cuddly, Sweet. Not good enough. Sorry! I totally think he should have his own TV show.
Aaron Kelly
Jebbica-
Aaron–Give this kid a few years and he could be a country star. Meanwhile, please get him off my TV set! I actually think he has a lot more talent than people give him credit for, but like Katie, he’s still green.
Cait -
Chicken Little. Or Turtle Boy. Those are the things I think about when I see him. O_o. I don’t think he will win, because he seems like another David Archuleta. But, maybe he can release a Christmas Album or something for all the older people to listen to. =D
Eric -
Aaron is just to young. He should have waited a few years an then tryout. But with Simon Cowell leaving Aaron probably realized the Shark is about to be jumped on American Idol and it was now or never.
Lizaio-
Aaron – Should have gone home instead of Alex Lambert, who would have won the whole season.
Casey James
Jebbica-
Casey–All the ladies went gaga for Bo Bice, but then no one bought his records. Casey’s best chance is to find a band and a catchy hook, something that doesn’t focus on his “shinging” (sheep-singing). He’s got the looks and the guitar-playing, but now he’s going to have to deal with the Idol stigma.
Cait -
I have NO idea why he ’s still even in the competition. I persoanlly don’t think he can sing, and when he does… he sounds like a goat. But, my Mother and every other chick her age seems to think he’s pretty. Meh… He can play guitar quite well. Maybe he can be a Base Player for Crystal or Lee.
Eric -
Casey is Bucky Covington 2.0 or LOST’s Sawyer that plays the Honky Tonk. His looks have gotten him this far, but in the way of talent with this season most of these top contestants wouldn’t have made it this far in some of the seasons prior. The looks may get him into top 3 with Crystal and Lee
Lizaio-
Casey – His rendition of “Jealous Guy” makes it so I have nothing derogatory to say about him, except that sometimes his hair looks really stupid. He probably won’t win, but he’ll do OK. I think at some point in the beginning Jebbica called him “Bucky Covington 2.0″ so I think he’ll do better than old Bucky.
Tim Urban
Jebbica-
Tim–I have no idea why this guy is even here. But, as Entertainment Weekly said recently, there’s not really a contestant we have left that’s fit to be above second place. Tim is awesomely bad and makes the show more fun. And this season, this show needs more fun!
Cait -
TIMMY. I love Timmy. What’s not to love about that adorkable little man? I agree, that sounded weird. Sorry. Anyways, I look forward to him being in the Top 3. Why? Because that would make some people cringe, and some people scream (like me). TIMMY FTW! Don’t be hatin’.
Eric -
Tim the Vote For The Worst’s best contestant factor to date. Finally VFTW has gotten someone past the top 7. Sanjaya with a better smile. At this point you just root for Tim because of his personality and infectious smile.
Lizaio-
Tim – deepest apologies to dear Jebbica, but this guy is rubbish. He should have gone home a long time ago. Instead of Lilly Scott, since he’s the less cool, male version of her.
Final Thoughts..
Jebbica- BRING BACK DUNKLEMAN!!!
Eric – Judge Kara is the most annoying member of Idol. Even Paula’s drunk ramblings were better then the dribble from Kara each week.

I would much rather listen to the rasper sound of Lee than any of the other guys. Yes, he has more of that Old Rocker sound & that sound never goes out of style (the young kids just don’t know it).
Crystal has that Bonnie Raitt or Melissa Etheridge sound that will always be popular.
Tim may not ever be a top recording artist but, he has to be THE most improved. He does take criticism well and seems to actually use it to get better.
Speaking of criticism…Psycho-Siobhan does not take it well. If she can’t learn to take it better, she’ll have a really hard life and never make it in the public eye. I had thought she could be in the top 3 but, she seems to have lost have it in the past few weeks.
I think they should have let Mike leave. The sympathy votes won’t hold his spot long. If you just listen to his voice he sounds like every other high pitched guy and his voice doesn’t stand out. But, his baby is adorable.
I think Aaron and Katie just need time to find themselves. They are just kids with very little life experience. How can you “connect” with a song when you have not even lived it? (Insert Kara’s head flopping and hand waving)
Shame on you Eric! Do not compare Casey with Sawyer! Casey is far more of a pretty boy and would have been eaten alive on an island.
You almost have to hope your fav’s do not win or they will be playing at dog shows (Kris Allen at Vegas Petapalooza last week and Fantasia at an ASPCA event today). But, Carrie Underwood is in Las Vegas for the CMA’s this week.

: Of COURSE Tim is rubbish! But doesn’t he seem like a nice kid? You are so right that Alex should have stolen the season. And that’s exactly why I’m rooting for Tim. To hell with it!
