I had a class tonight, so I’m doing your between Jebb and Cait recap.
First off, we see behind stage. Great. Then we see how important Usher is. Check. OK. We also learn that Usher has a dichotomy. Funny. So do I. It’s a part of me that is annoyed with Usher and another, conflicting part of me that loves that song “Yeah.”
Ryan keeps telling me that this show is two hours long. How is that going to work? I’m tired.
Siobhan Mangus is first. She’s singing “Through the Fire” and I don’t know who that is by. I probably won’t know who most of these songs are by. Oh. Ryan says it’s by Chaka Khan. I know who that is. Unfortunately, this song wasn’t making me feel anything good, if you know what I mean. Siobhan was pitchy and looked like she was wearing a silky gym towel as a skirt. The judges were like “meh” except Simon was like “grr.”
Casey James did “Hold On I’m Coming” by Sam and Dave, which is a great song, yet I’m never excited to hear it. Except for now. Holy crap. I haven’t been impressed by Casey until now. That was chock full of awesome. Usher is looking all pleased, like he did it. No, Usher. You didn’t sing it. Casey did. Simon agreed. Simon and I are like “this.”
Big Mike Lynche is next and his little clip with Usher teaches us that “chicks dig a guy with a guitar” and that Micheal Lynche thinks that “a guitar is about honesty.” I might be too tired, but I can’t stand this Inda Arie song “Ready for Love.” For some reason it’s on my iTunes and I always switch when it comes on. Truth be known, I fast-forwarded through Mike after his numbers flashed up a bunch. Not that I needed the numbers, but just to give you a time stamp on when I ceased to care. Kara apparently thought it was “tasteful and lovely”and Simon finally takes him seriously as an artist. Randy loved it, Ellen loved it, blah blah. It was good, I guess. Somehow, I’m not compelled to back up the DVR. I believe them. Whatever.
Didi Benami was a weepy fool with Usher, and he wanted her to add that weepiness to her performance. I love that she enunciated the lyrics to “What Becomes of the Brokenhearted” by Jimmy Ruffin. I didn’t even know that those first words were the right ones. Byegones. Didi got a little bolder tonight, which was what she needed to do to stay in it. That little wobbly thing she does with her voice is nice and all, but she tried for some bigger notes tonight. Good try, Didi. The judges were like “meh,” too. Not enough credit. She liked this song and looked really pretty, and she tried really hard.
Tim Urban sings Anita Baker? Do I even want to watch this? It actually wasn’t too bad. It wasn’t great or anything, but not too bad. Randy wanted a little grease in it. Ellen made a drinking game out of Tim, and that’s great. She also said he was walking like he was sneaking into a bedroom. Kara said…stuff…. Simon was HILARIOUS. I love Simon. Way more than I love Tim, or Ryan, or Mike. But I love the kitten-eater and I love love love Ellen.
Andrew Garcia did “Forever” and it was very nice. I don’t know that song. But I liked it. Randy liked it. Ellen liked it. Kara and Simon did too, but Simon thinks Andrew needs to grow a personality real quick. I don’t know what that thing with Andrew’s mom was, but I guess she has enough personality for all of us.
Katie Stevens sang “Chain of Fools” by Aretha Franklin. As far as I’m concerned, you don’t mess with Aretha. Katie did OK, and you should vote for her because of Jacob. The judges were mixed.
Lee DeWyze got ready to perform a real performance to have a moment and NOT walking pneumonia. He sang “Treat Her Like a Lady” by The Cornelius Brothers. Usher really liked him. And gave him some really good advice, in that if Lee doesn’t believe it, nobody else will either, and that’s been my problem with Lee all along. OK. This performance was, by leaps and bounds, my favorite of the night. Lee was awesome, and he looked a lot like My Hubs in this performance. Weird. Did the judges like it? Yes. Yes they did.
Why is Simon wearing a Mr. Darcy shirt? Also, I did a weird little sobby thing when Simon told Lee that when Lee watches this performance back he might realize that this was the night that his life might have changed forever.
My favorite Crystal Bowersox was up next, and she’s changing it up tonight. She’s not hiding behind a guitar. Instead, she’s hiding behind the piano. She chose one of my favorite songs, “Midnight Train to Georgia” by Gladys Knight and the Pips. She looked great. It wasn’t her best performance, but it was still great. The judges liked it, yet Simon urged Crystal to not let this competition suck out her personality. He came off a little harsh, so she got a little defensive. She’s awfully defensive sometimes. I like that about her. I want her to win.
Aaron Kelly closed out the show with “Ain’t No Sunshine” by Bill Withers, a fantastic song. Usher was still there, doing Usher things. I think Usher is a little cocky. Aaron was a little pitchy, but he has such a nice tone to his voice that I think I forgive him. The judges were mixed.
Meh. Go Crystal, go Siobhan, and now GO LEE. Yeah.

I have yet to understand how you don’t know some of the most popular songs ever. Lolz!
What Simon said to Tim of right on the spot. It was Epic. I liked Crystal allot, but I didn’t like her dress that much…
And YAY we like the same people. We are so cool.
