Tonight, the top 10 American Idol hopefuls are going to be singing famous R&B hits with musical mentor Usher. Who’s excited? Anyone? Anyone? Yeah, that’s what I thought. I can’t believe that these are the ten people who are going on tour. But, guess what: tomorrow night, the Biebs himself, Mr. Justin Bieber is performing! OMG!!!! Yes, I am really 26 years old. But compared to the past weeks’ pop acts, I have high hopes for Justin. And I’ve been reading a lot, so yeah….
Up first is Siobhan Magnus, aka the Kitten Eater, aka “the only one who can sing”, according to Usher. Isn’t that basically what he said? She’s singing “Through the Fire”. I don’t know if this song is uber-dull, or if she’s just not on her game tonight. I am not feeling it. Her boots are awesome, though. The judges didn’t think it was her best performance. Kara said she delivered every week and that tonight was an off-night, to which all the contestants were entitled. Simon was mean. Yeah, it wasn’t good, but this wasn’t a kick-off worthy performance. So, save Siobhan! Because if she goes home, this show is really going to SUUUUUCCCCCKkkk.
Casey James is singing “Hold On I’m Coming”. He’s got his ‘lectric guitar again…good move! We’re still ignoring that he’s not really a good singer, aren’t we? He sounds okay tonight. He rocked it out. Lots of people clapped. Randy thought it was HOT! Ellen thinks he is always good, but the performance was a bit generic. Erica Kane aka Kara wants him to use more range. Simon thought it was his strongest week thus far.
Wow. They need something to fill up two hours tonight, so we’re getting backstage peeks of the performers after they sing.
Michael Lynch is singing “Ready for Love”. I like his gee-tar pickin’; it sounds real purdy. The singing’s okay, too. But the thing about R&B for me is, if it’s not bumpin’, it is so snoozy! I was seriously nodding off. It was one of his better performances, though. Uh, I kind of missed what the judges said because I was reading the comments below. I think they liked it though, because Big Mike was beaming!
Didi Benami aka Didi BeCry-Baby is gets all choked up and cries on Usher. God, when is this chick not crying!? She’s singing, aptly, “What Becomes of a Broken Heart”. Her hair reminds me of when I used to try to curl my Barbies’ hair, but I I still love her voice. She sounds good. I liked it, but the judges hated it. They are smoking crack tonight. Simon said it was like “swimming in jelly”…yeah, totally smoking crack.
YES. It’s Tim Urban time! Have you guys seen that story on the USA Today blog where they talk about how awesome it would be if Tim won? He could totally be the guy in the bottom two every week, the one who makes it, all the way up to the top? I think that would be hilarious. Um, Usher just made Tim sing the song to him like he was in love with him. Tim giving Usher bedroom eyes…hot. Tim’s bedroom eyes to the camera though just look creepy and stalker-esque. I bet there’s a few girls that wouldn’t mind Tim stalking them! Randy thought it sounded pedestrian. Stay tuned for next week, where Tim brings his bike on stage! Blah blah blah, he took the soul out of the song, Tim laughed at them. Tim is creeping into my heart. And that’s baaaaadddddd.
I was worried about this when I saw the song list. One of them was going to sing that woman-beater Chris Brown’s “Forever”. I figured that was going to make whoever sang it lose votes. Anyway, that person is Andrew Garcia. I like it, but he’s a one trick pony. But that works for Kris Allen, why not Andrew? Anyway, I already know what the judges are going to say. Blah blah blah Straight Up, blah blah blah…. Oh, what was that? Randy said that was his best performance in a long time! All the other judges liked it. Simon even liked it, but he thinks Andrew is boring. Well, his mama is gonna have something to say about that! Andrew’s mama FTW!!
Katie Stevens is singing “Chain of Fools”. She looks angry! I think it’s because her biggest fan is in Mexico this week and can’t vote for her. Drats! She is sounding pretty good though…she has improved a lot over the past couple of weeks! The judges were fans, though they wish she had chosen something more “current”. And Simon thought it was “robotic”.
Lee Dewyze is doing a rockin’ version of “Treat Her Like A Lady”. Like Crystal, he reminds me of a lot of people I know who look and sound exactly like this. It’s an okay performance. He’s singing in all caps though….”TREAT HER LIKE A LAY-DEEE!!!” What’s that rock band that’s popular right now? He sounds like that guy. You know the one, right? Shinedown, maybe? The judges loved it.
Crystal Bowersox is singing one of my favorite songs, “Midnight Train to Georgia” with her pee-anner. It is a HARD song to sing. She’s no Gladys Knight, but it is easily the best performance so far. And did I just see Sue Sylvester clapping for her? I think the judges liked it…they usually do. I got a little distracted.
Aaron Kelly is closing the show with a song I used to LOVE before Idol got hold of it and did it to death. And that song is “Ain’t No Sunshine” by Bill Withers. Aaron is growing on me. He starts off kind of shakily, but he finishes strong. Randy and Kara thought it was just okay, butEllen loved it. Simon thought last week was better.
Okay, so who was the best/worst this week? I was not particularly impressed with any of it. You guys? Share, share!

The chick with the misspelled name was terrible. And Casey was just eh. I mean, he is good, but he’s just got the “background noise” sort of voice. I bloody loved Big Mike. He, Crystal, and Simon are the only real reason why I am watching this season, though I do like Ellen.

I wouldn’t say I was a great singer or anything, but at least I can sing on key! I have never gotten less than a 99 in Rock Band, even on Expert, lol! Most of these singers are always all over the place, and it really bugs me! I really like Crystal, it’s just that I know so many girls who are exactly like her and can sing just as well. She stands out on the Idol stage and would have been really awesome if it were 1994….

Anyways, I LOVE Katie tonight. She was good. The problem was, she looked like a little girl playing dress up. My problem with Katie is actually the judges reaction. I don’t like the fact that the judges are always telling her to “be young”. I mean, I get it and the look tonight was wrong, but she just does older songs better. They hit the nail on the head with Didi. I really liked her singer-songwriter vibe early on (similar to Crystal) but lately she’s not been good.

The worst for me were Didi & Katie.
The best was when Usher was mentoring Aaron & he himself sang “i know, i know, i know, i know, i know”. That little bit gave me chills. No performer did that. Aaron was just okay.
The best performers were Lee & Crystal. Lee’s been growing on me.
