Tonight, the Idols are singing songs by the Rolling Stones. But I can’t get no satisfaction, and why is that? Because Alex Lambert and Lilly Scott were sent packing last week. So, I’m kind of caught between a rock and a hard place. I am so mad about all the good people getting sent home that I don’t even want to watch anymore! But I’m still here, so I guess it’s on with the show! It’s not easy; who is going home? If you start me up, I can do Rolling Stones-edition puns all night. Can I get a witness?
Michael “Big Mike” Lynch is going first. His mom died, so he stopped playing football and started singing. His baby is SO CUTE. Aptly, he is singing “Miss You”. He sounded okay to me….good, but not spectacular. He didn’t blow me out of my chair. Randy said he slayed it. Ellen and Kara loved it too, but Simon thought it was kind of corny and verging on desperate.
Didi Benami is singing “Playing with Fire”. It was kind of sexy. I was worried, because she was likely to get burned by the judges! There was a misstep, but she bounced back. I really liked it. Awesome. Randy said she was on fire. Ellen liked that she made “Fire” a two-syllable word. Kara thought she was intense and dark. Simon said he was a fan.
It’s all over now…Casey James has got his ‘lectric guitar again! Oh, and that’s the name of the song he’s singing. The song kind of sounds early Beatles and he’s playing like Jack White. Hmm, it’s like the only thing that’s weak about Casey are his vocals. He’s cute, he can play, he has a great stage presence, but his singing is definitely meh. The performance is kind of hokey, definitely not showcasing his voice (but that’s kind of a smart move on his part). Kara called him a rock star, and Ellen and Randy agreed. Simon thought it sounded like an audition and he needed to step it up.
I have no expectations for Lacey Brown! Wow, she and her family seem like a million people I know. Which probably explains why she’s still here…her community is probably voting nonstop! She’s singing “Ruby Tuesday”. It started good until the chorus. She kind of sounds like somebody…who is it? Lucinda Williams, maybe? Maybe her voice would be good in the recording studio, but I think this is the wrong outlet for her. Was not a fan of her on this song. Randy through Kara thought it was 50/50 good and bad. Simon said she needed to stop over thinking it and let go.
Andrew Garcia is singing “Gimme Shelter”. I like the tone of his voice, but he is not doing so great on this song. I am hoping it’s over soon. Sad, he might be going home tomorrow. Randy said it was pitchy everywhere, dawg. Ellen thought it was his best performance yet. Kara was bothered by the lack of connection. Simon was kind of in the middle of his critique, saying that he had a feeling it sounded better in rehearsal. He hopes Andrew is here another week so he can show us what he can do.
If you don’t read this blog a lot, we have a regular commenter named KATIE STEVENS 101 who LOVES Katie Stevens! Anyway, I think he is in the audience tonight, because there are people with Katie faces on sticks. 
She is singing “Wild Horses”…ooh, drag me away, because it’s a little sharp. She is sounding a lot like Faith Hill to me. Maybe she could work in the country market? Randy liked it. Ellen thought it was a good song choice. Kara thought it was better than last week. Simon said it was a clever song choice, but he didn’t like the second half of the arrangement.
Tim Urban is one of ten kids, and oh my gosh they are all adorable and look just like him! He’s singing “Under My Thumb”. He’s flat-ironed his hair. Cute. He’s singing a very Jason Mraz-y version, and I kind of like it. He’s not the best singer in the group, but he’s likable enough. He might have to be my Alex Lambert replacement. Randy said he didn’t get it. Ellen thought he was beachy. Kara applauded him for changing it up. Simon agreed with Kara but thought it didn’t work.
Siobhan Magnus is singing “Paint it Black”. She is looking fancy tonight, with her curled hair, pretty dress, and combat boots. She is so awesome. I love her. Wow, her voice rocks so much. Give her the crown right now! Randy thought it was HOT! Kara thought she was channeling Adam Lambert. Simon thought it was the standout performance of the night.
Lee Dewyze is singing “Beast of Burden”, or “Big Suburban” as I thought it was when I was a kid. I liked the arrangement, but I’m still not a huge fan of his voice. Still Gokey-esque to me. But still one of the better performances of the night. Randy said it channeled Rob Thomas and Dave Matthews, making it dope. Ellen thought it was like a hospital gown in that it ALMOST came together. Kara said it showed tremendous growth. Simon thinks he’s a great singer, but he didn’t have a “moment” because he picked a forgettable song.
Paige Miles chose “Honkeytonk Woman” to sing. It is SO much better than last week. Quite possibly her best performance yet. Oh and aww, her dad was paralyzed from the neck down and died when she was four, and they didn’t even exploit it in every episode! She sounds great this week. Randy liked it. Kara thought she got lost at times, but the “young Paige” is back! Simon didn’t know she had laryngitis, but he thought it was a good performance, despite it being a generic song choice.
Aaron Kelly is singing “Angie”, and thank goodness, he got his eyebrows fixed! It’s still got his country twist on it, and his voice sounds pretty good this week. His hair looks like Ellen’s. OMG, as soon as I typed that, she said the same thing! Ellen thought it was beautiful. Kara was glad he proved her wrong this week. Simon said it was 100% the right song choice.
Crystal Bowersox is getting the pimp spot again? Dang, I like Crystal, but she’s not the only singer in the competition! She’s singing “You Can’t Always Get What You Want”. The Boyfriend thought it sounded the same as all the other weeks, and I agree, but at least there’s no disputing who she is and what kind of singer she is! Randy and Ellen didn’t think it was her best performance, but they still loved it. Simon thought that she’s been the best most weeks, but this week Siobhan was better, so next week Crystal should kill her? Is that what he said?
Hmm, so the best for me were Siobhan and Didi, then Aaron and Crystal. Paige and Tim were also surprisingly good for me. Lacey needs to go!

Siobhan isn’t creepy! I do think Siobhan, Crystal, and Didi are Top 3 material. There aren’t really any guys who I think can beat them now that Alex is gone.

I don’t think any were really great. The big stage and all the lights seemed to be the excuse the judges were using over an over. who knows who the last four will be left. Out of the four home-goers last week, I thought two were really good. As to Casey James and all the remarks about Casey/Bucky, he should wish he was a Bucky with the amazing success he has become. By the way, teeth can be fixed and looking at pictures of this Bucky guy, his teeth look better than mine and my dad is a dentist. I went to his website and he has another hit on his hands. Looks like he did better than the other season 5 contestants and he was voted off #8. I’m a straight guy and my opinion is there is a slight look alike here but Casey has a way before he can become a Bucky. My fav is Crystal Bowersox now and Casey.
