Lee Dewyze sang first with “Fireflies” by Owl City. I was wondering if someone would do this song! I kind of like it…best performance by Lee I’ve heard yet. Now, can someone please do acoustic versions of “Umbrella”, “Toxic”, and “Hey Ya”? All three of those have gotten huge views on YouTube by various people; take notes Idol boys! The judges liked it a lot, except for Simon, who didn’t think he had a moment. His moment came when Ryan was calling his number and Lee licked his lips like 40 times.
Alex Lambert sang “Trouble” by Ray LaMontagne. His voice is pretty much identical to Ray’s, except maybe not as husky or honed yet. I like it, but last week was better. His mullet has seriously grown from last week to this week. I like his dimples; hope he sticks around for a few more weeks! Ellen called him a mushy banana. I think Simon said something about to the effect of he needed to start taking drugs, or at least that’s where I thought he was going with it until he said something about Randy in a bikini.
OMG, why does everyone on American Idol insist on singing “Hallelujah”? Tim Urban sang it with his acoustic guitar. It’s not an easy song. And wow, the kid did not sound half bad! I am surprised! Ellen liked it so much she jumped onstage and gave him a hug. Even Simon was nice. He’s going to wind up in the Top 12. WOW.
Andrew Garcia sang “Genie in a Bottle” by Christina Aguilera. It started kind of shaky, but overall, I loved it. This is the kind of ish they should be doing on Idol. The judges were all blah blah blah, you peaked with Paula, same thing every week. They were not fans. I think if he had practiced it a bit more, it would have been awesome. Keep trying Andrew, you need to make it into the Top 12!
Casey James sang “You’ll Think of Me” by Keith Urban. He seems like he’s trying to stifle that shaky thing he’s got going on. He sounds better than last week, but he is not the strongest performer by far. Still cute, though. The judges were torn about it. Even Simon liked it, sorta. I was all like meh, he can leave, until it came time for his voting number, and he did this thing where he tucked his hair behind his ear. ::Swoon::
Aaron Kelly sang “I’m Already There” by Lonestar. He was as surprisingly bad as Tim Urban was surprisingly good. Poor guy, it was terrible. He’s still a little doll, though. The girl judges hated it, the boys loved it. I think he might be in trouble.
Todrick Hall sang “Somebody to Love” by Queen. He started out good, but then he kind of started sounded like my group of friends and me singing Sing Star Rocks: Queen Edition last weekend (which isn’t a compliment)! But he has a good stage presence and nice teeth. The judges all praised him except for Simon, who thought he was meant more for Broadway than the recording studio.
Big Mike Lynch closed out the night with “This Woman’s Work” by Maxwell. He has a good voice, but it sounded like some R&B dude singing some R&B song. It could have as easily been Ruben Studdard to me. The judges loved it so much that Kara even started crying. Simon said it was the best live performance this season. Ehh, I wasn’t feeling it. I’m sorry. I like Mike, but it just wasn’t my cup of tea.
Well, well well. Casey James and Aaron Kelly were probably the ones who should be worried, based on performances. Up was down tonight, down was up. I actually liked Lee and Tim tonight. I was kind of ehh about Casey and Andrew. Alex is still adorable. Alex for the win.
