Howdy Folks! Last night revealed 7 of the Top 24 and tonight we’ll learn the last 17. I can’t help it. Even though there are all those spoilers out there, I’m still pretty excited. And, I wonder if Kara will look like she’s auditioning for a Broadway version of Xanadu, the way she did last night. I am really bummed that I can’t find a photo of it, but to back up my criticism of Kara’s wardrobe choices, I submit this:

What are you THINKING!?!?!?!?!
Anywhoo, it’s ON after tonight, Idol Fans! We can figure out who we love and hate and all that stuff! So excited!
Ryan promises us much drama for the “final judgment” of American Idol. What does that mean, exactly? Are some of the folks that already made it through going to be revisited, or do they just promise a whole lotta drama with the remaining contestants? OK. Our 7 from last night are good to go, and only 17 out of the 37 left are going to make it through.
Janell Wheeler is the first up. They run us through all her auditions, which started *meh* in Orlando, got better at the beginning of Hollywood, then worse with group round, and then even worse with her final performance. She’s a very pretty girl, and she’s pretty convinced she hasn’t made it through. Ellen does most of the talking, and makes it SOUND like she’s not going through, and then tells her she’s going through. Janell “aw shucks” and “Yays!” all over the place. She tells Ryan, “If I was Bikini Girl I’d kiss you right now” and Ryan has a look on his face like “I’d fear diseases less if you kissed me.”
Tyler Grady is next, and he’s…well…to tell you the truth, I don’t remember him. He has a really nice speaking voice, and from the snippet of auditions we saw tonight he has an excellent singing voice. He was obviously born in the wrong era, and brings some old school swagger to the mix. Kara handles this one, and tells him he’s through.
Incidentally, Kara is STILL wearing the Xanadu-ish ruched-sleeve gold nightmare outfit. Somebody PUHLEASE find a picture of that for me.
We’re back with Lacey Brown. She was judged against Corkery (ugh) and found wanting, and I remember disagreeing with that last year. Simon asked her if she thought they made the right decision last year and she says yes. Simon tells her that she’s through. And Ryan’s cheesy voiceover booms “A DREAM COME TRUE FOR LACEY.” Thx, Ry.
Ashley Rodriguez, Joe Munoz and Alex Lambert all make it through, and it just makes me wonder what the next 45 minutes has in store that they had to just breeze right through those three.
Crystal Bowersox (Cait, just don’t look at the teef) is going to take some air time, and that’s cool with me. I like her. She’s like somebody I’ve met before. She’s cool and calm and laid back. Simon handles this one, too. He tells her that they were all in agreement to put her through to the Top 24. She blushes, which endears her to me LOTS, and her baby, “Little T” is waiting in the wings with sleepy eyes to see a very happy Mommy.
We’re back from a break and everybody is freaking out pretty bad. Little Katie Stevens is the next long, involved montage. She is good, don’t get me wrong, and I think Alzheimer’s sucks a lot, so I feel really bad about her grandma. I have nothing against Little Katie Stevens, though I do wonder why they let her dress like Ally Sheedy at the end of The Breakfast Club to find out whether or not she made it through to the Top 24. Ellen’s shtick with the “I hate to give bad news…so I won’t” is getting kind of old.
There is a montage of rejection and tears. Some of them I recognize, some of them I don’t.
Angela Martin has been through some NONSENSE. How much stuff can happen to one lady? She has a sick kid (who is being taken care of thanks to her first stint on Idol and the Shriners), her Dad died, she had to do time, her Mom is missing, and now she has to sit up there with Kara all up in her face in her metallic nightmare of a shirt. THEY DIDN’T PUT HER THROUGH! I mean, I knew, because I have access to all this spoiler nonsense, but I bet you anything that all this personal drama is what made this decision. I don’t think any of them wanted to let her go. I want to weep openly for this girl.
OK. I’m REALLY excited about GLEE! returning to the screen, but to say that the wait is almost over when the show doesn’t start until April it makes it downright cruel. The wait is NOT almost over. The wait is, like, more than a month. But we have Idol to keep us warm…
Lilly Scott (maybe a personal fave of mine) is next, and they show us that her day with the bad didn’t go very well, though she picked “Rich Girl” which I think is by The Hall and Oates, which is just a bizarre choice as far as I’m concerned. WHY IS KARA WEARING THAT SHIRT? Kara has the conversation with Lilly, and gives her compliments, and brings her down a little. And then sneaks the information that she’s made it through to the Top 24 like it’s a booster shot or like she’s ripping a bandaid off her forehead. Weird.
Paige Miles makes it through, so does Siobahn Magnus, Michelle Delamor, John Park, and Jermaine Sellars.
Just two girls left for judgment. Tori Kelly (a Juliette Lewis lookalike) and Haeley Vaughn. Randy does the talking to Tori, who did Katy Perry for her final day performance, and Simon does the talking to Haeley, who did that adorable Jason Mraz song. Randy lets Tori down gently, and Simon gives the good news to Haeley. Haeley’s momma freaks out and that always makes me cry.
It’s down to Thaddeus Johnson and Andrew Garcia. I feel confident that, even if I had received absolutely no spoiler information and hints, that I could turn the TV off now and fall asleep – peaceful in the knowledge that Andrew will be the one who goes through. What I don’t get is why one of the more nominal dudes didn’t get cut in favor of Thaddeus.
All I can figure is that they think Thaddeus is only 16, and can come back for 14 more years, so he can wait a minute. The thing I love most about Thaddeus is his momma. The thing I love most about Andrew Garcia is everything. We all love him, don’t we?
Thaddeus made the mistake of seeming confident and feeling good about himself, which might not bode well for him. Thaddeus starts to tear up as Simon breaks the news to him. It’s so sad, and you know that his Momma is going to have some choice words for Simon. Bless his heart. I feel terrible for him! Why do this to me? Why make me love Andrew Garcia, but make me watch Thaddeus dissolve into tears and sob and cry and carry on? Momma follows him right into the bathroom stall. He’s only 16! He’s a baby! This has been a hard week for anybody, especially a 16 year old!
Andrew feels good about what he did, though he admits that group week was tough. Ellen lets him know that he made it through, and he has a look of pure relief on his face as he sort of breaks down a little. He calls his dad with tears still on his face – and says “Kiss my baby for me” How much do we love him? We do! Stay tuned tomorrow, because I’m going to learn EVERYTHING about this guy.
What a great ep, Guys! I really enjoyed that, and I hope you did too. See you next week!

I’m already a little tired of Ellen’s one joke of dragging out the news or pretending they are thru. Get at least one more gag Ellen!

The melodrama is over the top, that’s for sure

She doesn’t need any gags as long as Kara is wearing that joke of a dress!

But, despite Kara’s terrible clothing choices, I am finding her infinitely more likable than last year. Am I alone in this?

I like Kara more this year, too. She seems a little more down to earth.

, I agree Kara has seemed to settle into the Judges Spot a bit more then last year. Hopefully however we will not have to witness the cocky DIVA side of her, when she feels threatened.
