Start spreading the news…I’m leaving today….
I don’t know, but that’s what always comes into my head when I hear the words “Rat Pack” mentioned. I don’t know if any of the “final five” are planning on singing “New York, New York” tonight, but I guess we’ll see!
How are they going to fill up an entire hour with only five performances? Surely America can’t handle one more additional second of product placement!
Who better to lead the rat pack tonight than…Jamie Foxx? WTF? Okay, that’s strange. First up tonight is my new favorite, Kris Allen. He has pleasantly surprised me for the past few weeks. But first, a commercial break! Okay, I guess that’s how they’re planning on filling up the hour. Kris is singing “Just the Way You Look Tonight”. Jamie calls him his #1 because he’s “already an artist and doesn’t sing in the throat Olympics”. I don’t think the judges are going to love it as much as last week. Okay, I was wrong! Randy: “your best performance to date!” Kara: “You have set the technical standart so incredibly high for this evening; you are the dark horse in the competition.” Paula: “Your quiet confidence makes you an impeccable performance.” Simon: “I thought it was all a little bit wet”. I think Simon’s drinking out of Paula’s cup tonight!
Oh, did you catch this? If you download one of the Idols’ performances tonight, you’ll get an autographed picture. Pretty cool! Hey, if you’re going to do that, you could kill two birds with one stone and support us by getting to iTunes straight from this page. See how I just threw an inadvertent advertisement in there? It’s just like watching Idol!
Allison looks really pretty tonight! She’s singing “Someone to Watch Over Me” . She sounds pretty good, as always. Randy: “You look like Brittany Murphy, you sing like Pink, but you did your own thing and I loved it.” Kara: “I ain’t nervous you’ll be in the bottom three this week!” Paula: “You have an innocent sensability that’s both alluring and tender.” Simon: “I have a horrible feeling you could be in trouble tonight”. I have a feeling that for once, I’m not gonna agree with Simon!
Matt is singing “My Funny Valentine”. He seems a bit nervous and is kind of all over the place. Randy: “It was a little bit pitchy; I give it a six outta ten.” Kara: “You weren’t emotionally connected.” Paula: “You did an excellent job”. Simon: “It was the only believable and authentic performance tonight. Absolutely brilliant.”
Oh my God, does Adam have the pimp spot again?! Lame, Freemantle. Lame. The Gokemeister is singing “Come Rain or Come Shine”. Dang, Danny sounds pretty decent, up until the end of the song, where he gets a little over-the-top. He still has that smirk on his face, though. Randy: “You are the only one I’ve heard so far tonight that could have an album of these kind of songs and win!” Kara: “You had Rat Pack swagger tonight!” Paula: “Stellar performance.” Simon: “The best I’ve heard from you in weeks. That was outstanding.”
In the pimp spot again, Adam Flambert is singing “Feeling Good”. Okay, I still think he’s channeling Cher, but I kinda loved it. At this point, everyone who is left doesn’t really suck. Even smirky-faced Danny is growing on me. Randy: “A little too Broadway for me, but you are in the zone.” Kara: “You’re shocking and sleazy in a good way!” Paula: “You make me feel better than good. Watching you perform is like watching the Olympics, and you are Michael Phelps.” Simon: “Best entrance we’ve had all year. You show you really want this, and you’re an entertainer.”
Okay, I have no bests or worsts, but I think Simon was off tonight. Your thoughts?

Although I watched American Idol, I had to read your post. Love the comments. You put into words many things I couldn’t quite put my fingers on. Smirky-faced indeed!!!!! I also agree with most of your thoughts. This is such a boring week. I hope they chose something more entertaining. I’d really like to hear Allison sings Spanish or songs by latin singers.
