We’re in Salt Lake City, home of last season’s #2 guy, David Archuleta. Will they find a new Archie tonight?

David Osmond, nephew to Donnie and Marie, is up first. Of course he gets in.  David has MS and was in a wheelchair, but now he can walk.  He sings a Take 6 song.  We have heard lots about him prior to tonight, but how far will he get in the competition?

Tara Matthews, Salt Lake City’s resident goth, is up next.  Looks like a winner so far!  She’s singing “One Day I’ll Fly Away” from the Moulin Rouge soundtrack.  Kind of makes me wish she would fly away and not come back! Nice garters.

Next we get a montage of baddies, notably the guy with curly long hair and a lip-licking problem. No, more airtime with him!

Next is Chris Kirkham and his rabbit friend Grabbit.  He sings “Roll to Me” and his audition isn’t horrible, but Grabbit is quite distracting. He also is decked out in Simon butt-kiss gear. Not butt-kissy enough though, because he gets sent out without a golden ticket.

Frankie Jordan is next and she is a little zany, but in an attractive way.  She sings “You Know I’m No Good” by Amy Winehouse.  She is going to be one to watch!  Different from most of the auditions, so I’m going to give her the go-ahead to Hollywood. What? The judges agree with me! Frankie goes to Hollywood!

Megan Corkrey is a pretty single mom with a sleeve tattoo on her right arm.  She has a fantastic jazz voice. Simon called her one of his favorites.  Wow, the last two auditions have been my two favorites since ‘Noop Dog!

*Bonus: We get a preview of Kelly Clarkson’s latest single, “My Life Would Suck Without You”.  Not too shabby!

Austin Sisneros is the senior class president of his high school.  “When I Look to the Sky” by Train is his song of choice.  He’s not horrible, but not really stand-outish.  He sings another one, “It Takes a Village” to win over the judges.  This one is better, but the judges still aren’t feeling his song choices.  Still, he gets four yeses.

Jarrett Burns sings “Put Your Records On” briefly but was he a goody or a baddie? Because all we get next is noise.

Finally, 16-year-old Taylor Vaifanua is up for her shot.  She is a rumored Top 50 contestant.  She is 5′11″ without heels, and she kind of looks like Jordin Sparks.  She sings “Joyful Joyful” and is good, but sounds like a million other Idol Top 12-ers to me.  Good enough to make it through, but doesn’t America get sick of this same old thing? Just asking!  We need an Amy Winehouse or Feist or someone.

Rose the hippie is the last contestant of the night.

Finally, we hear from Rose Flack, an attractive hippie chick with a sad backstory. She is currently 17. When she was 13, her dad died, and when she was 15, her mom died.  She sings “I Feel the Earth Move” and she isn’t a bad singer, but the judges are very charmed by her and send her through, hoping she’ll improve.

Salt Lake City has provided some of the best auditions I’ve seen so far.  Tomorrow night (yes, another night of Idol!) is the last night of auditions as we go to New York and Puerto Rico.

Most definitely the best they have showcased on FOX so far. About time! I loved the jazz girls especially Frankie over Megan. Don’t know why but I do. And gotta agree Taylor doesn’t stand out too much and prove to be unique but you never know she can prove me wrong anytime. Also I did like the Osmond boy. I thought he was good, but needs to develop some originality in style and in personality. I think he can do that if he does that. I dunno. But let’s see if they can continue on the path to interesting and fulfilling shows. Good night :]
