Tonight is the first night of the finale, and it’s a fight between the Davids: Cook and Archuleta. Literally! The episode began with the two finalists wearing their best boxing gear.
Round One:
Clive Davis is choosing the songs.
David Cook is going first and Clive Davis chose “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For” by U2. Randy said it was a great way to start of the “performance of 2007″ even though it’s 2008, Paula said she’s found what she’s looking for, and Simon said it was phenomenal.
David Archuleta is singing “Don’t let the Sun go Down on Me” by Elton John. Randy said it was one of the best performances of the whole season and he picked the right time to peak. Paula said she got chills, and Simon said tonight’s performance was probably his best so far.
Round one winner: Archuleta
Round Two:
The guys are singing all new songs from the songwriting competition.
David Cook: “If You Don’t Dream Big” was the name of the song I think? The judges thought he made the most with what he had, but Simon didn’t think it sounded like a winning song.
Archuleta: “In This Moment” is the name of his “winning” song. Again, the judges weren’t crazy about the song, but they thought he did a great job with what he had to work with.
Round two winner: Archuleta
Round Three:
Contestants’ choice
Cook: “The World I Know” by Collective Soul. The judges liked it, but Simon said while he is a very nice guy and very sincere, it was the wrong choice for him.
Archuleta: Closing it out with “Imagine” by John Lennon, widely acclaimed as his best performance. The judges loved it, of course.
Round three winner: Archuleta, though personally I really liked Cook on this round!
Hmm, decisions, decisions! Who is going to win this thing tomorrow night? We’ll be right here blogging the results!

Simon Said Round One winner is David Archuleta, but I would say it was at best a Tie. 2 great songs – two great vocals.

The Judges Pretty Much want and think David Archuleta is the Season 7 winner. He did do a great job this evening, and the producers seem to back that choice, so David Archuleta Wins American Idol Season 7.
David Cook we love you, but it’s David A’s Title, and contractual obligation, where as, DC can start doing his own thing after the Summer Idol Tour!! Look for his album by Christmas 2008

i’m completely a David Cook fan and I want him to win. But all i can say is no matter who wins, at least they were the two best in the competition and are both deserving of the title.
