Stay tuned and keep refreshing as we will update the highlights and lowlights as they happen!
The Top 12 are singing songs from the Lennon/McCartney songbook. This has the potential to be really great, or really awful!
Syesha Mercado is first. She’s singing “Got to Get You Into My Life” from Revolver. Randy said it was pitchy, Paula said she found her zone midway through, and Simone thought it was “better than alright, it was great.”
Chikezie Eze is next. He sings “She’s a Woman,” a B-side to I Feel Fine. It was interestingly a hillbilly/rocker version. We’re having trouble with the live feed of the show at this point, so it’s pretty annoying and hard to figure out what the judges are saying, but I’m pretty sure they liked it.
*This is starting to look like a bad parody at this point. What’s wrong with the feed?
Of course, they fix it just in time for Ramiele Malubay’s performance. Poor Chikezie! She’s singing “In My Life” from Rubber Soul. Randy said it was boring, Paula said she was pretty but the song was safe. Simon was bored to tears. They need to let me be a judge on there…she murdered that song! I may be the wrong person to live blog on Lennon/McCartney night. I like her and all, but that was horrible. Don’t hate on me! The song is a great song. Ramiele is cute and a great singer. Ramiele + “In My Life” = Disaster.
Jason Castro is fourth. He’s singing “If I Fell” from A Hard Day’s Night. Did you notice in his video clip, he was outside and there were flies flying all around his head? Just a random tidbit there. Simon thought it was “alright,” Paula thought it was great, and Simon though he was “student in a bedroom at midnight,” whatever that means. He said he was good enough to stay another week but not as good as last week.
Carly Smithson is next. She’s singing “Come Together” from Abbey Road. Randy said it was “stellar,” Paula said she was “a star,” and Simon said she finally chose the right song for her. He also said she reminded him of Kelly Clarkson. I thought it was better than the Aerosmith version, but…I find her to be extremely overrated. Who’s with me?
David Cook is sixth and singing one of my favorite songs ever, “Eleanor Rigby” from Revolver. He turned the saddest song ever into a rock anthem. I officially hate David Cook. Randy said it was “rockin’,” Paula said he was a horse or something like that, and Simon thought it was brilliant. It’s a sad song! You don’t go “Whoo!” at the end! But I digress.
Brooke White is next and she’s singing the Beatles’ last single, “Let it Be.” She played piano on the song. I think everyone in the house was brought to tears, including Brooke. Randy thought it was heartfelt, Paula thought it was great, and Simon thought it was brilliant, 3 weeks in a row.
David Hernandez is eighth and he’s singing “I Saw Her Standing There” from Please Please Me. One of the more simple Beatles songs, Randy said it was overdone, Paula said it was overdone also, and Simon said it was “no, no, no. Corny, uncool, rabbit in the headlights.”
Pepe LePew Amanda Overmyer is next. She’s singing “You Can’t Do That” from A Hard Day’s Night. Simon said she brought a Beatles song to a Southern bar, and apparently that’s a compliment?? Simon called her “a breath of fresh air,” but her performance wasn’t as good as last week.
Michael Johns is tenth and is singing “Across the Universe,” from Let It Be . Randy said it was “okay but sleepy,” Paula said it was brilliant, and Simon said it was good, but monotonous and that he hasn’t reached his potential yet.
Kristy Lee Cook is singing a country version of “Eight Days a Week” from Beatles for Sale. I think she tried too hard to change it up and it sounded more like a heart attack. None of the judges liked it, and Simon said it was “horrendous, like Dolly Parton on helium.”
Last but not least is David Archuleta, who we’re all going to be sick of very soon, I’m feeling, since he is being crammed down our throats. He’s singing “We Can Work it Out” from Rubber Soul. He forgot most of the words, and the judges weren’t impressed this week. Simon said it was a mess and his weakest performance so far.
Okay, after hearing some of these other performances, David Cook is starting to look pretty good. I might have to forgive him. The worst of the night were definitely Kristy Lee Cook, David Hernandez, Ramiele, and David Archuleta. The best were Brooke White, Chikezie, Syesha, and Jason Castro. Agree? Disagree? Chikeze Eze was awesome. All three judges loved it. My wife is now a Chikeze Fan . she did a complete 180 after hearing this one. She wanted him gone last week. But now she is on the Chick- E-Z-Train!

Is Ryan Seacrest High? Did you notice his eyes? He is extra giddy tonight, and out of breathe and the whole jumping all over Chikeize and his comments.
Did Ryan Sip Paulas Drink? Did Randy Give him a Bump? Humm. Anyone else notice Ryan acting a bit UP…

So was the David Archuleta forgetting the words, and having a bad night Planned? He wouldn’t have had the Final spot if the judges and producers didn’t like his earlier audition. We told you in previous posts that if David Didn’t mess up, he would look invincible and would lose American idol title.
I say his messing up was ON Purpose, Staged and Planned from the get go… all to make him look more lovable, more human, more sympathy etc.

When I first heard Kristi’s song, I thought what was she thinking? Then I listened to it again and decided the vocals and her presentation were good. The problem was the back up band’s arrangement was one of the worst I’ve heard on Idol. The band sounded like it was on a run away horse and out of control. Under the circumstances, I think K. Cook did a good job. The song selection is right up there with Rocky Top, way too sappy.
