Will David Hernandez Stripper Scandal Hurt his Idol chances?

The story of David Hernandez Stripper past was leaked about two weeks ago via the folks over at VotefortheWorst website. On Monday March 3, 2008 National media picked up on the story and it was reported everywhere.

No mention of the Stripper Scandal was seen on the American Idol Broadcast when the Top 8 Men Performed last night 3-4-08. Not even was it part of David’s most embarrassing moments video clip. American Idol Judge Simon Cowell was caught making a comment about the issue off camera after David Hernandez sang “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now” by Meatloaf. TMZ is reporting that Simon said, ” I liked the way you stripped it down.”

Ken Warwick, American Idol Producer did an interview with TV Guide and said about the issue:

Will the revelations about David’s stripper past have any impact on whether he stays on the show?

Ken Warwick: No, it won’t make any difference. The truth is, we’re never judgmental about what people do to earn a living. They’ve got to put food in people’s mouths. We’ve had strippers on the show before. Nikki McKibbon was one in [Season] 1. We’re never judgmental about people who do things like that. If it were some sort of heavy porn, then maybe we’d have to take action. But certainly not on this.

TVGuide.com: Were you aware of his past before it was reported?

Warwick: No, I wasn’t. [Laughs] But the truth of the matter is, it wouldn’t have made any difference. There are a lot of people I know who’d love to have the opportunity just to make a better living by taking their clothes off.

TVGuide.com: Do you feel for these kids who are suddenly thrust into the public eye and then have everything in their pasts dug up?

Warwick: Very often, I do, yeah. I mean, David Hernandez, whatever you say, is a nice guy. And he can sing. He’s got a great voice. He deserves to be there, as far as I’m concerned.

Others have come out to show their support for David Hernandez speaking of his great vocal talent and extremely nice personality.

We will have to wait and see if the American Idol Voting Public will harbor any ill will towards David via their call in votes.

I for one liked David Hernandez from the beginning. He has shown great singing abilities and has entertained me with his versions of “Papa was a Rolling Stone” and “Love the One Your With“. He still has my vote. Does he have your?
