American Idol 2-26-08 February 26 Recap Review Opinions
The theme of this weeks Idol is the 70’s with the Boys going tonight and the girls coming on tomorrow night 2-27-08. The Top 10 American Idol Boys came out tonight to perform songs from the 1970’s with all they could muster. Two Idol Boys had Memorable song performance nights, (Hint 2 of the 3 David’s)
First up was Last weeks hit Michael Lee Johns. Michael Johns sang a Fleetwood Mac
Song, “You can Go Your Own Way” and the way it went wasn’t that good. Prior to each contestants on stage performance were short video clips of “What people don’t know about me”. Michael Johns is a sports nut. I didn’t catch the judges words in verbatim, but they all agreed it was a pretty mediocre performance. Michael should be safe this week based upon last week, and his looks. Grade for tonight C+
In the second position was singer Jason Castro who’s open video was about how he can’t do interviews. After what appeared like 100 takes and cuts, we agree with you Jason.
Just Sing baby. The Dread Locked “Dread Head” Jason Castro sang and played his guitar to the Andy Gibb song ” I want to be your everything“. Randy Jackson said, ” Interesting with the Guitar, Take away the guitar and it was just ok. Almost Karaoke.” Paula Abdul added, “ I would like to see you without the guitar” Simon Cowell stated, ” It was Horrible, didn’t suit your voice. Vocals were weak. It didn’t work this week, with all the songs to choose from, you chose a very average song. You didn’t do yourself any favors this week. ”
Grade on Jason Castro this week would be another C+. He should also be safe this week based upon last weeks performances and his looks.
The third singer of the American Idol Guys Top 10 Night of 2-26-08 was Luke Menard.
Luke Menard sang the Queen song, ” Killer Queen”. All I have to say is OUCH. Randy Jackson said, “The song has a degree of Difficulty, you choose a tough song, need to do something more your own vibe had some Pitch problems but was good.” Paula stated, “Good Week, Good Vocal, Good Song”, while Simon Cowell added, “It was a mistake, you are going to be judged with the original version. you don’t have the charisma to pull it off. It was verging on whinny and theatrical.” Grade for Luke Menard is a C- and is on the top of my Gonna Get voted off American Idol list.
In the forth spot was former Boy Bander, I wanna be a Rocker Dude, Robbie Carrico. In the intro video Robbie Carrico talked about his passion for drag racing. Robbie Sang the
Foreigner song, “Hot Blooded“. Randy thought, “I don’t think Rock is your thing, You did a pretty good job, but I expected the wow moment. Rock is an Attitude“. Paula added, ” How does anyone know who you are but you? You played it safe, you need a loose character and personality, you have to Up the Ante“. Simon added, ” don’t get defensive, but I thought the vocal was OK”
I like Robbie Carrico, I like the Hot Blooded song, but he seems to be leaving something on the table. He hasn’t done a show stopping rendition of anything yet. He has great vocals, the looks, but as Paula stated, he has to up the Ante or he won’t survive much longer. Grade for tonight B-
The half way mark was hit up by singer Danny Noriega, ( the Vote for the Worst candidate this year). Danny Noriega’s intro video told us about his experience in high school with his
Punk Rock Band. Danny Noriega sang the Carpenters “Superstar”. Someone please call 911 because my wrists are slit and I might not be able to continue…thanks.
Randy thought, “you had problems with the vocals, it appeared you were thinking while singing, let it go and sing.” Paula added. ” you have amazing vocals, don’t over analyze, just perform.” Simon added, “This was better than last week, you stand out in a crowd and look terrific on camera”. Simon then asked if Danny took his criticism from last week into consideration, in which Danny Noriega “gayfully” replied, ” well parts ISH” “ISH“. Grade for Danny tonight on 2-26-08 was another C-. The medics showed up and patched me up enough to finish. I want Danny Gone ASAP, but I think he has too much support.
After recovering from the Danny Debacle, David Hernandez crushed it and revived me
with the Temptations ” Papa Was A Rolling Stone“. We found out from the video that David Hernandez was a gymnastics star as a child. Thankfully he grew out of that and is following a music career. After I finish this review I am going to Download from I-tunes David Hernandez song this week from Idol.
Randy Said. “this is the David Hernandez we all fell in love with, That was HOT.” Paula added, “ So Pure voice, amazing, your personality came out it, it was perfect.” Simon stated, “Best Vocal of the night so far. I like that you can take criticism as a challenge and rise to that challenge. I am glad to say I am now a fan“. Grade for David H tonight is an A+.
In the 7th spot was Jason Yeager. Jason sang the Dobbie Brothers “Without Love”.
Randy Jackson said, “bad song Choice, Pitchy and Karaoke” Paula said, ” Fun to see this sign of you but the song doesn’t show your vocal range”.
Simon added, “ Simple truth is Last week was boring, this week was awful and it looked like you were drink on stage with that final move. It was disappointing. ” Grade for this evening D-. I don’t expect to see Jason Yeager around much longer and he also is on my Too be voted off American Idol list.
The eight spot went to Chikezie Eze who sang a Donny Hathaway Song called “I
believe”. Randy Stated, “Chikezie is Back, this sis the guy we fell in love with , that was hot” Paula added, Very Clever, Very brilliant with song choice, and pointing at Simon about the Name“. Simon added, ‘ You Look Better, Sound Better, a Million times better than last week” Simon then asked if Chikezie Eze would wear his blaze orange suit again, in which Pimp Chick-Daddy replied, It was seen on television, I can’t wear it again, only you can do that” SNAP!@!
For his performance and moxie, Chikezie grade for tonight was a B+
David Cook took the 9th spot an in his video he said he was a Word Nerd. David Cook
sang and played his guitar to the BTO ( Bachman-Turner-Overdrive) Song “All Right Now“.
Randy and Paul thought David Cook was a Real Rocker and very smart and fun, Simon though David Cook is Partly Boring.
David did a good job and gets a grade of a B for the evening.
The Final spot of the Evening went to David Archuleta who sang the John Lennon Classic Imagine. He was awesome. The Judges Loved Him and Simon said David Archuleta is the One to Beat. You can check out his video of Imagine here
The Video speaks for itself.
Judge Randy Jackson said, “Best Vocals I have ever Heard on this show“. Judge Paula Abdul stated, ” Most beautiful and most moving performance I ever heard. You are destined for Super Stardom” Simon added, ” you just made 19 other people really nervous because You are the One to Beat.”
David Archuleta is a fantastic talent. His grade for the Night was an A+. Both David Archuleta and David Hernandez were the stars of tonights show. Look for Luke Menard and Jason Yeager to be voted off American Idol on 2-28-08.

Another very helpful post for my thesis. Too bad you couldn’t catch judges comments for Michael johns.
Thank you and keep at it, my future is in your hands ( no really!)
