American Idol Season 7 Auditions Charleston Review 1-23-08
Over 10,000 people showed up in Charleston, South Carolina for their attempts at 15 minutes of fame or a Hollywood Golden Ticket. When it was all said and done only 23 contestants received the pass and the YES from the American Idol Judges of Randy, Paula, and Simon to continue their dream.
It took awhile before we saw our first golden ticket. We meet Rashard Henderson the “Fro” black Clay Aiken, we saw Kelly Pickler’s hometown of Albermarle North Carolina waitress DeAnna Prevatte and the American Idol internet message board lovebirds of Crytal Ortiz and Randy Stark. Unfortunately, while each had an interesting story, their vocal talents didn’t match.
The first two golden tickets went to two tons of fun brother and sister act of Jeffrey Lumpkin and Michelle Lumpkin who sang “I am your angle”. Almost split up the judges favored Jeffry Lumpkin over his older sister Michelle, but in the end both got the golden ticket to the Hollywood Round.
Amy Catherine Flynn the 16 year old captain of her dance team from Knoxville, Tenn
preached to Simon Cowell about Abstenance. Amy Catherine Flynn Sang “Refelections” while Judge Randy Jackson claimed she had “Mad Talent”. Simon’s catch phrase of this season 7 was once again revealed as he told her ” I don’t think you are as good as you think you are“! However Amy got her golden Hollywood ticket.
Next Golden Ticket went to London Weidberg who’s back story included her time off from singing to tend to her ailing father. London Weidberg from Charleston South Carolina sang “Good Morning Heartache” and impressed the Idol judges enough to move one to the Hollywood Audition round.
We were also introduced to Female Air Force Pilot Lyndsey Goodman who flies C-17 Jumbo transport planes. She sang a good rendition of “Black Velvet” but not good enough for the judges to move on.
As always with American Idol auditions there are some that can’t believe they don’t have
the talent or voice to make it big. We saw two of these tonight. The first over the top singer was Aretha Codner who would not take the Judges No for an answer. She had talent, she can sin, she exclaimed, unfortunately the judges and most audience members would argue and disagree.
In the same vane as Aretha Codner was Joshua Boson, who’s ego was no were close to his singing abilities. Joshua Boson was terrible, at least Aretha could carry a tune. Maybe they can hook up together an form the I am better than American Idol Rejects Tour?
The other heart waring story of the Charleston American Idol auditions was the birth of
Emma Grace Highman. Her father Oliver Highman was in the audition line when he got news that his wife was due to deliver her baby girl. Oliver missed the first days audition, but was granted a second chance. with wife and new beautiful baby girl in tow, Oliver Highman got his chance. He did well, but not well enough for the coveted Golden Hollywood ticket.
Next Tuesday January 29, 2008 (1-29-08) we are presented with the Omaha Nebraska American Idol season Auditions. From the previews this should be more laughs and less talent, but we will have to wait and see.
