American Idol Season 7 Auditions San Diego Review 1-22-08
We found out that over 12,000 people showed up for the American Idol Season 7 Auditions in sunny San Diego, Ca. When all was said and done 30 Contestants received the Golden Hollywood Ticket.
It was less zany in todays Idol show as we saw several real contenders for the AI Crown. We were introduced to Tetiana Ostapowych who sang “someone to watch over me” and got her Golden ticket. In reality Tetianna Ostapowych’s audition was 6 weeks later at the Rancho Bernardo call back location.
We were introduced to single father Perrie Cataldo and his son Avon who sang the Boys to Men song, “I’ll Make Love To You”. Once again a Golden Ticket and a good backstory.
We were introduced to Micheal Johns, the Australian singer who Simon Cowell
compared to a “White Soul Singer.” Micheal Johns was in a band in Australia and recorded prior.
We were 3 for three on shown auditions, Talent and Hollywood Golden Tickets, but this is American Idol Auditions and the wacky, zany freak shows must be aired Right?
After several 2 second shots of contestants that were ushered off the stage by the American Idol Judges we got a back story on Valerie Reyes.
Valerie Reyes thought she sounded like Maria Carey, she idolized Maria Carey, and
compared herself to Maria Carey. Valerie Reyes admitted to watch and laughing at the American Idol Audition Rejects and knew she would not become one. Irony is a Bitch, and once Valerie Reyes attempted to sing, or screech or whatever you would call the sound on fingernails on a chalkboard, it soon became true that Valerie would be forever associated with the American Idol rejects that she laughed at in the past. AI Judge Simon Cowell compared her Maria Carey impersonations and singing to a “CD left in the sun for a year and then attempting to play.” After her audition Valerie Reyes realized she was “Going to be one of the Rejects!”
We also got to see rejects Monique Gibson and friend Christopher Baker who had to be escorted out of the audition area because he would not stop his terrible singing.
We did get to see Samantha Musa receive a Hollywood ticket who was a self proclaimed Simon Cowell Fan. Simon invited her sister to be a guest judge. The talent was obvious and the magic shined as Samantha Musa had what it took to advance to Hollywood.
We were also introduced to 11 time rejected Blake Bosnack who had auditions and rejected from American Idol 10 times in many different audition locations. Maybe the 12th time will be a charm for Blake Bosnack, because his San Diego Audition was a flop.
This episodes Wack Job number one belonged to “The Biggest American Idol Fan” A
ctual green fan holder Alberto Hurtado who wrote his own distressing song”live”. With his Long uncut finger nails and soft effeminate voice Alberto Hurtado and soft attempt to sing didn’t fare very well in the eyes of the American Idol Judges.
Two more Idols were shown that made it to the Hollywood round and they were 16 year
Old David Archuleta who we learned not form the Idol episode but from research that we won the kids version of Star Search when he was 12 years old. David Archuleta’s back story was about a long bout of vocal paralysis that probably came from too much vocal practice in his youth. David is rumored to have made it pretty far in the Hollywood Round and may even be in the Top 24.
The Last contestant from the 1-22-08 San Diego American Idol Auditions was the infamous Carly Hennessy ( going by the name Carly Smithson). The tattooed
Irish Girl Singer made it to Hollywood in the Season 5 version but was forced to drop out according to the “back story” because of visa issues. No mention of her former Record contracts, or labels, Albums etc that we all found out about through research.
Three of the names we saw tonight Micheal Johns, Carly Hennessy, and David Archuleta all have major prior exposure and are not the Unknown singers that American Idol show and contest was built upon. But owe well, as long as we don’t have another Sanyaja Malakar Season I will be happy.

Valerie Reyes was ok singer and was very pretty I like her.I would like to know if she is from the philippines.

danny, looks like you’re biased. even if i also think she’s from the philippines, her seesawing voice will not make it anywhere. not even california’s pinoy population can save her.
