American Idol to Allow Contestants to Play Instruments Next Season
So, you thought some bad singing and bizarre outfits were the most entertaining things that could happen to American Idol? Think again! Next season, we’ll have the opportunity to hear people butcher songs with the help of musical instruments, too!
TV Guide Reports:
“We’re going to let the contestants play instruments if they can,” executive producer Nigel Lythgoe told TV Guide at the Nov. 8 Discovery Awards.
Hopefully, we will be introduced to some real talent out of all this in addition to the inevitable train wrecks. What are the judges’ thoughts on the new change?
Idol judge Paula Abdul says, “It’s going to be one of the best seasons we’ve ever had, no joke. We have incredible talent, great back stories, unique voices, adorable, good-looking kids…. You’re going to be pleasantly surprised. And you’re going to be laughing your butt off at some of the rarities. I will say this — someone is probably going to be bigger than William Hung.”

NO! NO! NO! NO INSTRUMENTS ! What’s the point???? This is a singing contest… for Pete’s sake don’t change it. if people want an instrument contest, just have a show just for that!
I’m trying to find out when Idol starts this year. Somebody please post the date.
Thanks! -Mame-

This is the new format for the Idol competition. Playing and singing makes a great artist. Canadian idol winner Brian Melo won without playing an instrument. Australian Idol winner Natalie Gauci won. She is a great singer and pianist. Also very charming. I’m going to purchase Nat’s Winner’s Journey album on Ebay.
Jeff.
