The voting needs to change. For the first half of the season, instead of voting for the best, votes need to be cast for the worst!

SANJAYA SUCKS !!!! AMERICAN IDOL HAS LOST ONE AUDIENCE MEMBER AND I WILL NEVER WATCH THE PROGRAM AGAIN. HOWARD STERN HAS WON !!!
HE HAS MADE THIS PROGRAM NON-CREDITABLE !!!!!!!!!! HOWARD STERN HAS MADE THIS SHOW A HUGE JOKE !!!! SANJAYA HAS NOOOOOOOOOOO TALENT.

Hey give the kid a break. I like Sanjaya. I think he does have talent. I’ll admit that I’m a little shocked that he hasn’t gone yet, but the kid DOES have talent. I don’t think he is the next American Idol, myself I’m rooting for Lakisha! You go girl!!!! Anyway, I think Sanjaya is young and really needs a little more experience and work on being able to really push his voice out there. I’m not surprised Stephanie is gone. She has a great voice, but it’s no better than any other good performer, know what I mean? The girl can sing a song, but it’s way too much like the original, she just doesn’t stand out to me! Forever an Idol fan!!!!!!
4 Shely // Mar 21, 2007 at 10:37 pm
We all know Sanjaya is not that good at singing, and he doesnt deserve to keep kicking off good people such as Brandon Rogers or Stephanie Edwards. Simon or Paula or Randy need to step in because i think im getting sick of watching this. I want to see a singing show not some guy who thinks he can sing. Just do something about it soon or i wont be watchign anymore
5 Bah // Mar 21, 2007 at 10:52 pm
Who is keeping Sanjaya on this show? Seriously? Are there a MILLIION Sanjaya fans out there, because HAVE YOU SEEN THE NEWS? It’s on NATIONAL NEWS! And he’s not there for his talent. Oh, no. He’s there because he sucks butt!!! Because he’s HORRIBLE!!! It’s time for the judges to intervene and tell him he’s gone. I’m sorry, but this is ridiculous. Pointless. Whoever is voting for him, votefortheworst get a life, please! JUST LISTEN TO HIM. ok. I can’t say anymore.
6 Shell // Mar 21, 2007 at 10:54 pm
I think it stinks that Sanjaya is a topic of conversation. Howard Stern will win as long as we continue to talk about it. The real winner will emerge and it will not and should not be Sanjaya.
7 Nancy D'Agati // Mar 21, 2007 at 10:58 pm
It is so sad that Howard Stern has ruined American Idol and the people with real talent have to suffer. What does that say about his followers….they are just that…followers who have to ruin a great show that gives young people with real talent a chance. I hate Howard, he is a jerk but what shocks me is the blind followers - Sanijay is so bad, please…everyone hang in there and vote for ANYONE BUT HIM, JUST TO SHOW THAT MOST PEOPLE WILL GIVE THE KIDS WHO HAVE REAL TALENT A CHANCE.

SANJAYA SUCKS!!!!!!!!! i am so excited to see how the ratings are going to be if sanjaya lasts any longer because i know that there are more people mad about sanjaya still in the competition than there are people voting for him
9 marvin // Mar 21, 2007 at 11:44 pm
UNBELIEVABLE!
10 rod // Mar 21, 2007 at 11:54 pm
This is what you get when you let 11-14 year old girls decide who stays and who goes. They need to get a grip on who votes on this show. Until then we just have to let the little girls make the decisions. Why do you think Kevin Covais went so far. They should get the results but have the final say as to who stays and who goes.
11 James // Mar 22, 2007 at 12:05 am
I think it is rather funny that people want to point the finger at Howard Stern… Look at it this way if his listeners did cause this vote to get screwed up at least the voting is working and the contest is not rigged by Fox. I am part of the Revolution, but could care less about Idol. It is a great gag if Howard is responsible. Baba Booie!!!!
12 bob // Mar 22, 2007 at 1:20 am
Ok with all the people saying you will stop watching the show jsut because so and so doesn’t get voted off please stop because you continue to watching like little mindless saps that have no brains. i am sick of this dumb show ruining all the other networks and nothing else being on
13 CYRUS // Mar 22, 2007 at 1:45 am
SANJAYA IS GOOD HE HAS MY VOTE IF I HEAR ANOTHER SONG WITH BEAT BOXING IN IT I’M GONNA PUKE!. ITS ONE THING TO BEAT BOX IN A COUPLE OF SONGS BUT COME ON.
I THINK IDOL IS BECOMING SOME WHAT OVER THE TOP. MAYBE WE NEED AN IDOL ALLSTAR COMP WHERE THE TOP SO MANY FROM ALL SEASONS,UK AND CANADA BATTLE IT OUT. ALSO LIKE TO SEE A COMP FOR THE TOP IDOL REJECTS GOTTA LOVE THE REJECTS.
14 Mike // Mar 22, 2007 at 11:32 am
I personally think that Sanjaya is the best thing that happened to American Idol. Who wants to see one of these dime-a-dozen singers come out with their own album. The market is flooded with artists and it’s at the point where there is really nothing new.
We need somebody to root for and feel differently about. Just go through all the other remaining contestants and please tell me which one of these singers’ albums you would actually want to buy. Yeah, they have good voices but there are 1000s of artists with nice voices.
Besides, if studios can make Brittney sound good, I’m sure they will have no problem with Sanjaya!
15 Hannah // Mar 22, 2007 at 12:10 pm
I can’t think of anything better than to waste my money buying an album of someone who CAN’T SING , Mike. Those 1000’s of artists you refer to CAN SING!
Brittney canSING, too.
Rooting for someone who CAN’T SING, now there’s an intelligent thought. He is different, I’ll grant you that.
I also feel differently about him, too, as you suggest. This is how I feel: STEPHNIE EDWARDS CAN SING AND SANJAYA CAN NOT. THAT MY DEAR MAN IS THE DIFFERENCE!!!!!!!
16 Mike // Mar 22, 2007 at 12:38 pm
I actually expected that response, but you are missing the point…
How many brands of toothpaste do we really need on the shelves? It makes sense to have 2 or 3 for each different type of teeth, maybe some different flavors. The music industry right now is just overkill. Most of the current artists (brittney, etc…) are just puppets for the studio producers. Anyone will tell you that they are not showing the fans who they are, but what is required of them - what will sell.
I always thought of this show as a one to reflect the interests of the American public. I can’t imagine that people actually feel the need to so desperately find yet another singer to get mixed into the crowd, then phase out in a year.
We finally have something to get excited about.
(Besides, you think the other contestants deserve to win? How about all the much better singers who never even made it to Hollywood due to the fact that this “reality” show is just as controlled by the producers as any of the others)

17 Karla // Mar 22, 2007 at 1:31 pm
Your analogy leaves a lot to be desired, Mike. Toothpast and singing talent indeed!
I’ll fall into your trap and say, YES SANJAYA IS A DIFFERENT TOOTHPASTE, he’ has all the qualties of the lesser brand and I wouldn’t buy it, especially if I can have access to the best.
18 Mike // Mar 22, 2007 at 1:49 pm
I am not saying we need something different because it is better. Sometimes new things can be refreshing. Let’s think outside the box a little and not take my analogy literally. obviously, it was not the most accurate comparison since consumers judge hygienic products by how good they are at their acheiving their purpose, while in the realm of entertainment, the criteria is not as simple as “good” and “bad.” Everyone makes their own judgement about who they find entertaining.
Even those who do not want him to win, still must admit that Sanjaya is certainly quite entertaining.
For Pete’s sake, the reason most people watch the show is to see the contestants that are not talented and get made fun of!
19 HANNAH // Mar 22, 2007 at 2:30 pm
Mike, he’s not talented and that is why people are incensed. If he’s endearing let him sell Girl Scout cookies and not try to sell a talent that is not there. This show is not about endearment or to as you say,” making fun of people,” it is a talent show.
And by the way, you’re digging a hole.
20 Mike // Mar 22, 2007 at 4:00 pm
Hannah, if it was a show solely based on “talent,” then I’m pretty sure they would’ve had a more impressive top 24. There is nobody exciting, seriously. Ok, Melinda so can sing well, yay!
This show is just like most other “reality” shows. It does not depict reality at all. It is all about making it exciting to watch and getting rating. Even the producer admitted that. Have you checked out my posted link from a few postings ago?
It’s unfortunate for you that the ones chosen to advance early on because of their respective backgrounds and interesting stories are now biting you in the ass bec. they should not have been there to begin with if the decisions were solely based on talent.
The judges originally made the decision to keep Sanjaya in while they knew darn well that he had nothing on the other contestants. Why, you ask? They probably figured he would be tossed rather easily, but wanted him in bec. as Paula said:
“Sanjaya performed already and he got some harsh criticism, but I think people are going to love him. He’s got such a great spirit about him. ” (http://www.people.com/people/package/americanidol2007/article/0,,20007868_20012304,00.html)
Doesn’t sound like it was baed on talent at all, huh? Well, who’s having fun now!
21 Karla // Mar 22, 2007 at 5:18 pm
Melinda, Lakisha and Jordan are the shining stars. They are a testimony to the fact that talent WAS found. Blake, in the men’s catagory, is also outstanding and refreshing to hear. So, Mike, one would have to say that’s quite impressive. What say you?
I do agree the judges made a bad choice when they kept Sajaya, they should have kept his sister.
You need to stay focused on the reason for the show and that is : ( hate to be redundant ) TALENT .
Let me say I have no prejudices when it comes to race or lifestyle and it’s getting tiresome to hear this as a reason for this debacle.
Please do not ruin this show and the chances it provides for these candidates.
I do believe that they will try to put Sanjaya as this season’s Idol. What a travesty
for all who truly deserve the title.
22 debbie // Mar 22, 2007 at 9:12 pm
Where did you people get your music degrees from? If you don’t have a college degree in music, and you think Sanjaya aka Mowgli is good, then we certainly know that you don’t know.
23 Leisa // Mar 23, 2007 at 1:00 am
One word,
WHY?
WHY is Stephanie gone and Sanjaya still there? It is so painful to see him still on the show. Hopefully he will leave in the next round!
24 rod // Mar 23, 2007 at 8:29 am
She called him Mowgli! Oh my god! I haven’t laughed that hard in years. Thanks Debbie. I don’t care for Mowgli either (obviously) but I do have to give him credit. His performance on Tuesday was good, didn’t sing it very well, but obviously its not a singing competition. sorry Simon
25 rod // Mar 23, 2007 at 8:37 am
Lets divert from Mowgli, and talk about Melinda Doolittle. She looks like a person who has been beat down every day of her life. I know she has been told she would never be a lead singer, just a back up singer, but its deeper than that. I am not a Psychologist or anything but if I would have to guess I would say she has been mentally and or physically abused by some one in the past. She looks like a scared little puppy when shes not singing. Your thoughts?
26 Karla // Mar 23, 2007 at 9:33 am
I don’t think Melinda is scared . I think she is not used to being in the spot light .
She has a naiveness about her and is very meek. Remember, she was a back-up
singer. She is also some one who , I believe , will not let her ego get in her way if she becomes successful, which I think she will. How refreshing.
27 Mike // Mar 23, 2007 at 11:29 am
Karla, you made it sound like I do not think the contestants (ie. Blake) are talented. I definitely do, and I am also admit that I could never do what they are doing. Even if I could sing, just getting up on stage in front of millions takes guts and they all deserve credit for that.
All I am saying is that Blake and the others are not unique enough to get excited about. It’s fun to root for the underdog.
Besides, many of the past contestants who were runner’s up, ended up getting better deals and selling more albums than those who won. (ie. the bald rocker guy- I think from last year). You did bring up a good point that ppl like me are taking the chance away from those that may deserve it more, and I almost feel a bit guilty. Although, I’m sure contestants like Melinda will still be recognized if Sanjaya wins and execs will pick her up.
You gotta remember that just being out there in the top 10 achieves as much popularity and spotlight as winning it does. I don’t think music execs will say: “Oh, she didn’t win so why sign her.” At this point in the competition, it makes no difference who actually wins. It’s all about dragging it all out for 3 months and getting advertising and promotional dollars.
28 Karla // Mar 23, 2007 at 3:13 pm
How can you say it’s fun to root for the under dog when you do this at the expense of others. He’s an under dog because he can’t sing,( redundacy, redundancy, redundancy ) If someone is being harrased unfairly then one can condone the rooting, I would do the same. He doesn’t fall into this catagory.
Today I saw Stephanie sing on 2 morning shows and she was terrific. I only wish they would have had Sanjaya sing directly after her.
Mike, I think you’re a fairly intelligent person, I can tell by the postings, but you need to rethink the logic in what you’re doing, rise above this, please.
29 Mike // Mar 23, 2007 at 4:27 pm
Thanks for the compliment, Karla. Just want to say that the reason I take part in these discussions is partially because I want to get feedback from others. People I know are evenly divided on the topic.
You have to understand a little bit about my background. I’ve always been critical and doubtful of all reality shows and only recently decided to publicaly admit that I am actually following this show. I fear that my interest in the show is for unorthodox reasons - I just think that this whole hupla in season 6 has just put a new spin on things and created much less monatany for the show.
As far as rooting for the underdog - it’s a lot like watching the superbowl between 2 teams that are not from my home town. I don’t really care who wins, but it’s always more exciting when the unexpected happens.
By the way, I personally have not even voted once yet.
30 Karla // Mar 24, 2007 at 1:34 pm
Like yourself, Mike, I also find it hard to believe I’m watching this show, too. I love the classics and can’t believe I’m watching mundane TV shows. Tom Clancy, outside of the classics, is one of my favorite authors, he’d cringe at this fluff.
Getting back to the real issue, the Sanjaya fiasco is what is wrong with this sort of contest. The real basis gets lost in the superfical blog. I would just like to see the most deserving reap the benefits. Sanjaya would make a great model, he has the physique and personality to sell teen bopper products, I hope some advertising company picks him up.
31 Jan // Mar 26, 2007 at 8:40 pm
Remember in past seasons Ryan would say, “If you are under 18, kids remember to get your parent’s permission before voting.”…I don’t remember him saying that once this season. Sounds to me like something like this has been in the works from the beginning..
32 Mike // Mar 27, 2007 at 4:02 pm
Actually, I’m almost positive I heard him say it once. It is kinda interesting for them to say that, considering some of the actual contestants are themselves under 18… or maybe I am missing the point entirely.
Either way, they do not have to worry about minors making voting, but everyone involved in this Sanjaya fiasco.
33 gal // Mar 27, 2007 at 9:03 pm
Sanjaya is HORRIBLE!!!! I say this as a teen and I HATE him. I’d Rather get to my english project than watch his PITIFUL perfrormance every week!!!
34 Angelina // Mar 27, 2007 at 9:18 pm
Sanjaya looked like a dancing pineapple tonight!!!!!! Good Grief, what is he?????
35 Mike // Mar 28, 2007 at 10:50 am
Have you seen Prince..? Yeah, he doesn’t look normal either, but he’s still one of the biggest pop-stars of all recorded history! Sanjaya may not be a greaat singer, but he’s definately entertaining. Just remember that as many people there are tuning into American Idol to watch a “talent” contest - there are probably just as many who tune in to see him perform and laugh. He is a producer’s dream and they’re lovin it! Sanjaya is getting people like me interested who have never watched the show during the past 5 years.
Actually, if you watched the show last night you would have heard the judges tell Sanjaya that he has the ability and just has to go for it more.
(I think the hairdo was to show that he’s aware that no matter what he does, he’ll still stay on)
36 Karla // Mar 28, 2007 at 9:50 pm
I love Prince, but he can REALLY sing. As far as the judges saying that Sanjaya has the ability, this is the weakest remark a judge can say. They have just given up because they know it’s useless.
Sanjaya has turned this into a FREAK show. Chris Sligh was voted off and the comic still stands. I’m starting to believe this show has entered the Twilight Zone.
By the way, he did look like a dancing pineapple last night. Stephen King might like to buy the script from this show and write a novel !
37 Mike // Mar 28, 2007 at 11:41 pm
Sanjaya is awesome! He’s obviously playing along with everything that is happening. At this point, he couldn’t even get himself voted off if he wanted to.
I actually did a little dance when he was called safe… would be great if he was only safe by 50 votes, cause that’s how many times I voted for him.
38 you wish! // Feb 28, 2008 at 6:59 pm
well…pretty much i think that David is totally hot and i am rooting for him on the guys side! and for the girls…i’m not really sure yet. i think simon is a little hard on people telling them their outfits arent good and stuff. wow considering he wears a black, white, or grey shirt every single week. spice it up a little! oh well. at least he’s honest but wow. lol. and ya thats what i think. but this is going to be a good season because every one is really really good this season!
39 Fan of Davids // Mar 27, 2008 at 12:14 am
I love both Davids. I think this is a guy’s year. I love David Archuleta a little more.> He’s younger, gots a whole long career ahead of him. Check out You Tube. You will see when he was on Star Search and clips when he was young. He really blew everyone away. He is full of potential. Not to mention; cute, likeable and just darn good. On the other hand, David Cook will give him a good run. He is wickedly good. He can rock on like no other. He is pro material. Nonetheless they will both have great new jobs with record contracts, be famous, and rich! (Now I’m talkin’!)
