American Idol Fan Site | Who got voted off American Idol

The American Idol Hatchet came down last night with some expected and some unexpected contestants going home. Amy Krebs and Paul Kim were expected to be voted off American Idol. Rudy Cardenas and Nicole Tranquillo were surprise evicted Idols. Especially with the likes of bad singer, Internet flozzy, Anotonella Barba and cheesy performances by both Sundance Head and Nick Predro.

The recent exposed pictures of Antonella Barba floating around the Internet in various states of undress and poses might have helped her cause, especially since her singing didn’t. Is American Voting for the worst? Or do the votes themselves even count?

Because America voted, and it appears they like some really bad performances.

That’s the only way to explain why Sanjaya Malakar, Sundance Head and Antonella Barba are sticking around for another week of American Idol hoopla.

The singers shown the door Thursday night were shoeless wonder Paul Kim (who cursed himself by wearing tennies on the eviction show), Nicole Tranquillo, Amy Krebs and Rudy Cardenas. Three of them weren’t half bad. The other one, well, how can he be expected to carry a tune in shoes, for God’s sake?

Falling into the more-than-half-bad category were Antonella, who had so much trouble with the melody of “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” on Wednesday that she just made up a new one halfway through. And our hometown guy Sundance, who took our high hopes and slaughtered them upon Hollywood arrival. Then there’s Smiley Sanjaya, whose survival on the show seems downright cruel.

Actually, there are several aspects of Idol that resemble college hazing. For example, why would they force these kids to sing – and dance – to “Sowing the Seeds of Love” at the beginning of the eviction show? You can picture them crying backstage, “But people will make fun of me!” with Ryan Seacrest replying, sneeringly, “Do it or you’re blackballed.”

Hey, we’ve seen that Ryan can be merciless. During the eviction round, Amy Krebs was sitting safely on the couch, just waiting her turn, doop de doo, when Ryan suddenly called her over and said, basically, “Get out.” It was a drive-by booting-off.

On a happier note, the guest “coaches” lined up for this season include Diana Ross, Jon Bon Jovi, Jennifer Lopez, Gwen Stefani and Tony Bennett. With instructors like that, a few of the show’s benchwarmers might stand a chance at greatness.
