American Idol Chris Daughtry is a total winner. Even though he came up short on the Idol Contest his Record sales, talent and stardom are a given.Â
Winning “American Idol†can boost your career for sure, but is it better to lose?
Ask Chris Daughtry, an “Idol†season five finalist who was, some say, prematurely illuminated from the reality show.
Daughtry, a North Caroline native, was the favorite to win “Idol,†but the shock of his elimination wasn’t enough to stop him from reaching his goals.
His “premature elimination†in fact, opened several avenues for Daughtry. Shortly after his departure on “Idol,†he was approached with the proposition of becoming the next lead singer for the hit rock band Fuel. Daughtry refused.
Rather than becoming a front man for a well-established band, or becoming a solo artist, Daughtry took a different route.
“I feel that I never wanted to be a solo artists, so I figure if I didn’t win (“Idolâ€), I could at least get a band together and get more gigs,†Daughtry said on “Good Morning America.â€
Since his departure from the show in 2006, Daughtry has brought together his intense rugged voice with the talents of four other bandmates to create the band Daughtry.
“I began my music career as a songwriter, but I’ve always believed in the power of a band,†Daughtry wrote on his official Web site (daughtryoffical.com). “The great moments are when you’re able to capture that extra special connection between members that you can’t really define. That’s what I’m striving for.â€
Daughtry, the band, consists of Joey Barnes, drums; Jeremy Brady, guitar; Josh Paul, bass, and Josh Steely, guitar.
The band’s debut self-titled album was released in late 2006 and has since been certified platinum, selling more than a million copies. Daughtry’s album has outsold other albums from “Idol†season five contestants like Kellie Pickler and “Idol†winner Taylor Hicks.
Daughtry enlisted the help of proven rockers, and some of his idols, to help write and produce his debut album. The likes of Brent Smith of Shinedown, Mitch Allan of SR-71, and Hinder producer Brian Howes were all on board to help create the album.
The first single off “Daughtry,†“It’s Not Over,†is climbing the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and has so far peeked at No. 28. It debuted at 65.
“The debut from former ‘American Idol’ semifinalist Chris Daughtry makes one thing clear,†read a Rolling Stone review of “Daughtry,†“Homeboy loves to rock.â€
