Singing sensation winner Ruben Studdard is still “Flying without Wings,†but now 100 pounds lighter.
Â
The 2003 American Idol lost nearly 100 pounds at a weight management clinic at Duke University, according to the Associated Press. The “velvet teddy bear,†who once tipped scales at 400 pounds, is now a vegetarian and cuts back on his food intake.
Â
In an interview with NBC’s Today show on Monday, Studdard said that he was put on a 1,200-1,500-calorie-per-day diet by the clinic and is currently working on his next album.
Â
That album, The Return, is said to hit stores Oct. 17. Studdard told the AP that he called it The Return because not many people bought his inspirational debut album, and some thought he hadn’t recorded in a while.
