Thousands of people stood in front of the Key Arena this morning – hoping for their shot at a spot on American Idol.
Auditions for the reality television show began around 8 a.m. But hopefuls began lining up shortly after midnight.
Chris Luedtke, 25, of Salem, Ore. was among the first in line. “ I just felt a calling to come out here,†he said. “I felt God wanted me to come out here. I don’t know why – I just started singing last week.â€
Idol officials said they didn’t know how many contestants would be invited back next month for another round of auditions but for Sarah Sparks, 18, of Olympia, her focus was on today. “It’s going to be great no matter what,†the 2006 North Thurston High graduate said. “It’s only the beginning.â€
Sully Rhoads, 17, of Olympia, said he felt the same way. “It’s just being here that makes it fun,†he said. “It’s an experience. It’s just that I tried, I really tried – I can say that.â€
