Andrew Sato took one step closer to gaining fame as an American Idol.
He beat out the finalists in a local audition at Hawaii theatre last night.
This won’t be his first shot at stardom.
Andrew Sato wowed the local judges with his voice and stage presence last night. The next step is to impress American Idol producers at next week’s auditions in Seattle. Sato was one of the thousands who tried out three years ago when auditions were held at Aloha Stadium.
“Of course I had to camp out and buy a sleeping bag. I had to use the public restrooms like everybody else with thousands of people, it was long, it was tiring,” says Andrew Sato, American Idol hopeful.
He got past the first audition but that’s as far as it went. This time, Sato will have a slight advantage over most of the people trying out. His free trip to Seattle includes hotel accommodations and he won’t have to wait in line to sing.
“I think that will help a lot because I will be well rested and everybody else will be pretty grumpy and tired,” says Sato.
Sato also has a different attitude toward the upcoming audition. he says he put too much pressure on himself last time, which made him too nervous.
“This time around I’m just gonna do it, I’m just gonna have fun and I think I’ll be a lot more relaxed, which I was a lot more relaxed last night because I just went there and had fun,” says Sato.
In the past, some American Idol finalists have gotten kicked out for their scandalous past. So the 25-year-old computer salesman has a confession. For the local audition, singers had to write a short bio online explaining why they should be the next American Idol. Sato admits he was less than sincere.
“Of course I sugar coated it a lot and said probably things they want to hear,” says Sato.
He is sincere however, about winning and making Hawaii proud.
