Former “American Idol” contestant and Richmond resident Elliott Yamin has been chosen 
to sing the national anthem at Sunday’s NBA Finals game in Dallas.
The Dallas Mavericks and Miami Heat matchup begins at 9 p.m. on ABC.
The 27-year-old gained a large following of fans from his rise from karaoke obscurity to “American Idol” stardom.
He made it to the final three on Fox’s popular singing contest.
Taylor Hicks of Alabama was later crowned the winner.
