American Idol Fans are still in shock over Chris Daughtry’s Early Eviction. Paula Abdul’s comments on the 5-9-06 show, ” See you in the finals” in reference to Chris Daughtry
may have played a huge role.
Chris Daughtry fans may not have voted as much as normal because of the Judges comments. However, there are two outstanding American Idol issues. One, voting fans claim they received a Katharine McPhee thank you message when attempting to vote for Chris, two the phone lines for Chris seemed constantly busy not allowing for votes.
Paula Abdul told people magazine in a recent interview that she wanted Elliott Yamin to be the final Idol. She sent a note to Richmond, Va Major and former Governor Doug Wilder that she is backing Elliott Yamin. During the contest her comments and emotional outburst have always be geared toward Chris Daughtry. Is Paula just switching trains and being a fair-weather fan? Will Paula’s new found endorsement of Elliott Yamin be a curse?
Paula Abdul in recent years and even this season has always picked a Male contestant to fawn over, and act like a middle school girl crush. Her infatuation this season with comments, goo-goo eyes and all was Chris Daughtry. That train has left the station and
she has hiched her post to Elliott Yamin. Will fans react negatively towards Elliott now because of Paula?

After Daughtry’s performance of “Suspicious Minds,†Paula Abdul told Chris, “See you in the finals.â€Â This vote of confidence by Ms. Abdul could have led Daughtry’s fans to believe that he was safe. In a recent conference call, Chris Daughtry himself even surmised as much, telling reporters “Paula says, well, we’ll see you at the finals. Everybody’s like, well, he’s definitely safe. We need to vote for the other people we want in there with him. And it didn’t work to my advantage.â€
What’s more, it appears Ms. Abdul has made a dramatic recovery from her devastation over Daughtry’s elimination. Ms. Abdul was feeling well enough to tell People Magazine, “I am going to be honest with you - I want Elliott to win.â€Â Ms. Abdul was even bold enough to tell People Magazine, “I feel like I changed the face of the competition by making America wake up and see the talent that Elliott possesses.”
Could Paula Abdul have wanted Elliott Yamin to win all along? Did Ms. Abdul know that by telling Daughtry that he was bound for the finals that his fans might ease up and not vote enough? Was her profuse praise of Elliott’s two performances a calculated move to push him ahead in the competition? While we’re just having a little fun with this conspiracy and don’t really think Paula Abdul had a dastardly plan to eliminate Chris Daughtry, there is a very real possibility that her comments did contribute to Daughtry fans thinking he was safe and not voting as aggressively as they otherwise would have. Paula Abdul might very well have unintentionally played a major role in Chris Daughtry’s downfall.
Paula Abdul is an American Idol Judge, but also a fan. Her comments on the show were noticeable Judge like to those she wasn’t infatuated over. When Chris Daughtry performed she was always “acting out”, standing, dancing, cheering. Her outburst and comments on recent shows, also had many speculating that their was something more than just “coke” in the judges glass. Regardless, Chris is out and the E-train Elliott Yamin is in. Will Paula’s endorsement be the kiss of Death for Elliott? Or will her new found “infatuation” and endorsement lead Elliott to the winners Circle?
We will see soon enough this tuesday 5-16-06 and 5-17-06 on American Idol.
