American Idol Fan Site | Who got voted off American Idol

Wow. Not a bad night. I thought the performances were going to be boring because of the emphasis on Rod Stewart’s Great American Songbook songs, but I take that back. Many very good performances tonight. (Sidenote: If Rod Stewart got plastic surgery, it looks good!)

Singing “These Foolish Things,” Paris Bennett was back in her jazzy-vocalist element, reminding us of the levels she can reach. A glittery evening gown would have been better than the business suit she had on.

Chris Daughtry showed us a new side — although he still had the rocker scowl and that key chain — singing “What a Wonderful World.” He always smiles after he’s done… maybe a little humanity during those tender performances could boost him over the top.

Elliott Yamin and Ace Young gave solid performances, as well, singing “It Had to Be You”  and “That’s All” respectively.  Despite what Simon said, I thought Elliott showed some decent personality (no monkey dance) and was strong throughout his Harry Connick Jr.-like performance. Ace had a new slick look that, coupled with his performance, Simon thought was “charming.”

Katharine McPhee… I just don’t get it. The judges always love her. Maybe she sounds better live, than on TV. Don’t get me wrong. I think she’s one of the tops, but not by as much as the judges’ margin. She sang “Someone to Watch Over Me.”

Taylor Hicks, singing “You Send Me,” had it rough following on the heels of Paris and Chris. Hicks started off mediocre, but brought it home, as Randy would say. Overall, quite forgettable.

Kellie Pickler, who gave a boring, butchered performance of “Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered,” should be going home tomorrow, but because of the outside forces known as “votefortheworst.com”, she’ll probably be staying for a bit longer. Great line by Simon: “You didn’t even need to bother with the bewitched and the bothered, did you? You could have just done bewildered.”

Yes, and she did.

So, since Pickler probably won’t be going home — because of those outside forces — let’s go with Ace. If Pickler isn’t in the bottom three, the probably, based on past voting trends, Katharine and Elliott will round it out.
