Ace Young Survives Another American Idol Cut
Boulder native Ace Young nearly ‘did’ exit the “American Idol” stage following his rendition of the Stevie Wonder song “Do I Do,” but survived his scare, and will return to the FOX television hit next week.
The 25-year-old was among the singers in the “bottom three” last night, based on a nationwide vote of viewers who rated Wednesday’s performances.
Young was first up that night, and concluded with less-than rave reviews from Idol’s panel of judges.
He joined 16-year-old Lisa Tucker of Anaheim, California and 21-year-old Melissa McGhee of Tampa, Florida in the pool of three singers who received the lowest number of votes.
When host Ryan Seacrest revealed the lowest of the low, it was McGhee who ended up going home.
McGhee, Tucker and Young all auditioned for the show last year in Denver.
McGhee said yesterday she’d probably be leaving, after forgetting some of the lyrics to Wonder’s “Lately” the night before. Despite the slip-up, though, normally negative judge Simon Cowell had called it her “best performance so far.”
