Fox Reality will premiere American Idol Extra, the first-ever series to reveal the backstage drama of what really happens on American Idol AFTER the weekly vote-off show on FOX. The original Fox Reality series, which is produced by 19 Entertainment and FremantleMedia, begins on Thursday, March 16 and will continue through the crowning of this season’s winner in May. Each week, the show will air on Fox Reality at 6:30 p.m. EST and again at 10:30 p.m. EST, repeating numerous times throughout the week.
“Fox Reality is the destination this March for ‘American Idol’ fans who can’t get enough of this show and the contestants,” said David Lyle, COO and General Manager of Fox Reality. “Never before have viewers been allowed to see the intimate and emotional back stage reactions following a contestant being voted off. We are excited to be the ones to bring it to the fans.”
In addition to an interview with the week’s voted-off finalist, American Idol Extra will take a look back at their journey from home-town tryouts to one of the coveted top 12 spots. The show will also offer a number of other tantalizing “peeks behind the curtain,” including visits with some of the past season’s finalists to get an update on their lives, comment and reaction on performances from celebrities and contestants let go earlier in the current season, as well as a look at some of the amazing production team that creates the excitement and tension of each American Idol episode.
Fox Reality’s American Idol Extra is produced by FremantleMedia and 19 Entertainment. Fourteen-time Emmy-nominated American Idol is created and executive-produced by Simon Fuller, founder of 19 Entertainment; and executive-produced by Cecile Frot-Coutaz, CEO, FremantleMedia North America, Inc.; Nigel Lythgoe, President, 19 Television; and Ken Warwick, Executive Producer, FremantleMedia North America, Inc.
