American Idol 10: Top 8 Results – RECAP

After last week’s gonzo results show, I’m assuming you American Idol fans were prepared for anything. Since is was supposedly a shock that Pia Toscano got voted off. Who could be a more shocking sendoff? Lauren? Scotty? Nah. Ya’ll can handle anything. Somehow, the pecking order seems to have been better this week. They were the people I thought were going to get thrown into the bottom 3. But, before we get to that, in the spirit of Ryan Seacrest, let’s drag things out a bit and take a look back at how the evening unfolded.

First of all. J-Lo looking fabulous as ever… oh wait, she didn’t. What was up with that Armadillo, Egyptian looking thing? The hair and the makeup. Oh my god. It was horrible. Most Beautiful Woman In The World my ARSE! I think she looks so pretty with her hair down, and with her dressed normally. C’mon J-Lo.

Idol Duet Performance:
Once again the night started with Lauren Alaina and Scotty McCreery, ya’ll. The two sang Lady Antebellum’s “American Honey,” with Scotty continuing to find new, awkward ways to hold a microphone, while Lauren pranced around in a daisy yellow dress straight out of Dolly Parton’s closet. They’re just so cute. It’s pretty clear who’s going to be the top two this year. I mean, wouldn’t that be an epic Finale?

Ford Music Video:
This week’s Ford music video was awesome, with Lauren Alaina and Jacob Lusk enjoying a picnic when a zombified Haley Reinhart appeared, and sends the both of them into a panic. James Durbin, Stefano Langone and Scotty McCreery also got the zombie treatment, but clearly, James enjoyed it the most. The videos this year are much better with zombies and superheros, and I like it! It’s so much better than what boring crap they normally have. Don’t you think?

Idol Duet Performance:
Next up, alleged Idol couple, Haley Reinhart and Casey Abrams, popped up on stage with Art Blakey’s, “Moanin.” There was enough scatting, growling and raspiness for that song to fit it’s title. And J.Lo said they sounded like they’ve been doing it their whole lives. It was actually pretty good. And Haley’s hair looked freakin’ awesome. I liked her dress too!

Voter Results:
Haley, Casey, Lauren and Scotty got up on the Idol stage. Scotty and Lauren were safe, but Haley reclaimed her lovely crown as the queen of the bottom 3 while Casey went back to the seats. Oh, poor Haley.

Guest Mentor:
Ah yes. This show just can’t go without some filler. So, we got this kind-of-funny clip of Rob Reiner schooling the Top 8 about making music for movies. Which is something I never really thought about. But, just think of how many movies we’ve seen, that basically revolved around the song behind it? But, I never think about the song. That’s cool! Psh!

Guest Performances:
Kelly Clarkson and country dude Jason Aldean took to the stage to sing their new single, “Don’t You Wanna Stay?” Now yes, I’m aware that it’s actually Jason’s song, but Kelly sings better, and clearly was there just so he could be on Idol. Besides, I couldn’t even see the guy under that 10-gallon hat. That thing was a big as Kelly Clarkson’s ….. Ahem.

More Results:

You guys want results? SO DID I! But no, first, we go to listen to a mop-top foursome from Liverpool (seriously. They’re like some weird UK shiz.), Jacob Lusk, James Durbin, Paul McDonald and Stefano Langone performed “The Sound of Silence” and “Mrs. Robinson” and it was … yikes. I mean, seriously? Simon and Garfunkel is the call for Gospel, Rocker, Breathy and Broadway? Are you kidding me with this? Why are they together? I will say though, Paul and James looked like they were having fun… while Stefano and Jacob were off in their own “to good to be here” world.

Some More Results:
PAUL MCDONALD WAS VOTED OFF AMERICAN IDOL! Aw, I’m sorry. Did I shock you, because I just got right to the point? Yes, I was feeling a bit mischievous there. And because I already knew, I just couldn’t bare the thought of holding it in much longer. So yeah, it wasn’t much of a shock who got voted off, but it’s still sad. I adored Paul and all his weird Pinocchio-like dance movies and cracky vocals. I’m gonna miss that. And it’s all your fault for not voting. All of your guys can go to… the bottom 3. Byotch!

Really though, the only thing I’m sad about is that we’ll have to endure Jacob and Stefano for another week. Are you guys sad or happy about this? Leave your comments in the comment section below!

Non-shocker result here. He should have been voted-off a long..long..long time ago.

Sad to see Paul go — he’s definitely one of this year’s originals — but it was inevitable. I agree that Jason and Stefano have overstayed their welcome. They’re great singers, as are all of this year’s contestants — but they both look like they should be singing in musicals.

    sorry. I meant “Jacob.”

I was happy Paul got to sing “Maggie May” for his finale. It was his best. Pia got to do her best with “I’ll stand by you”. How long is Stefano gonna hang around anyway. He must have a large bunch of groupies that vote for him 50 times each.

I thought he had an original sound he will probably get a record deal with someone. I really thought that it would be Stefano going. I am voting for Haley I think she is the whole package, but I had really wanted Pia to win, hopefully she will do good enough on her own.

I really liked Paul. I thought he was original, and I always enjoyed his take on these songs. I was reallllllly hoping frickin Stefano would finally go. I cannot STAND him. everything about him annoys me. Maybe next week?

    JACOB NEEDS TO GO!!!!

  • 8 craftyonetoo // Apr 15, 2011 at 11:56 pm

This year has been “The Best Yet”! So many talented people survived the eliminations. As the weeks go by it is abundantly apparent that The Save offered to Casey was probably the best thing the judges could do to make the show really interesting. Casey is beyond a doubt, the most talented musician of the bunch and the mischievious little smile under the beard and the twinkle in his eyes make him a joy to watch and listen to. Sure hope the voters also recognize this and vote for him!

Well I think that’s too bad. I liked Paul, he was talented and very entertaining.
Stephano should have left instead, he is so broadway. Hope to hear more of Paul in the future.
