Well hello there! It’s time for another live blog, and we’re headed to the Big Easy! We’ll be checking out the Bayou, moseying on down to the Tremé, hoping to hear some Ragin’ Cajuns. Will we find the next American Idol down in New Orleans tonight? Grab your bucket of crawdads, and let’s find out!
Okay, so it’s been awhile since I’ve done a live blog, so bear with me as I try to catch everyone’s names and what they sang!
Blake Patterson is singing for the introduction of the show. He is very…emotional. Kind of a fun way to open up the show, I guess! Why didn’t they just hand him the winning crown right then and there? Okay, what the heck was that?
Is this really the first time they’ve been to the Bayou since Season 4, back when Ryan had crazy french fry hair?
The first contestant is Jordan Dorsey, a piano teacher. He’s wearing a skull and crossbones necklace, pretty cool. He sings “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”. He kind of infuses jazz with R&B and sounds pretty good, though he might wear thin when it comes to singing pop songs. But he’s good, so he gets the first golden ticket of the day.
After the break and a look at N’awlins swamps, we get a look at the baddies. Though, what was wrong with the first girl, she sounded like Jennifer Hudson!
Sarah Sellers, a food and music blogger, might just be Steven Tyler’s illegitimate daughter because she has huge lips, but no one else in her family does, or so she says. She sings Bob Dylan’s “To Make You Feel My Love”. She’s pretty, with blond hair and glasses, and she has a very gospel feel. Jennifer Lopez thinks she’s one of the best she’s heard.
Jovany Barreto, a Cuban-American ship loader, is ready to show J-Lo his abs. He sings something Latin and is very reminiscent of J-Lo hubby Marc Anthony. J-Lo is smitten, naturally, and Steven Tyler thought it was delicious (is that his catch phrase?), and Randy gives him a “giant” yes. So to celebrate, he takes his shirt off. And…so do Randy and Steven. Why? I SO did not want to see that.
Jacquelyn Dupree’s uncle was Randy’s football coach. So she brings him in. This is a strange way to butter up the judges, isn’t it? She sings “I’ll Stand By You”. I think she’s quite all over the place, but her tone is nice. I don’t see her lasting long, but she is through to the next round.
Oh, we finally get this Carrot Top guy, Brett Loewenstern, they’ve been hyping so much. He’s 16, excruciatingly thin, and has crazy, curly red hair (but his mom is blond and his dad has brown hair, both straight. Did Ronald McDonald slip in their bed somewhere?). I kind of love him, so I hope he’s good. He sings “Bohemian Rhapsody”, and he IS good. Okay…I kind of hope this guy wins!
I thought Gabriel Franks was Tyler Grady back for another try. ’Member Tyler? Gabriel won a Steven Tyler lookalike contest, but Steven thinks he looks like Mick Jagger. He’s bad, singing “Bad Romance”. He wasn’t actually THAT bad, until he got to the chorus. But still, pretty bad. And so, enter baddie montage. Complete with bird screeches and crazy Mardi Gras garb.
After the break, we’re meeting a 15-year-old kid who looks like a 10-year-old Andy Milonakis lookalike. I think he’s supposed to be Idol’s version of Susan Boyle, if that honor didn’t already go to Carrot Top earlier in the show.
But FIRST, we get Alex Attardo. He went to Idol Camp. He’s singing “Proud Mary”, and he is TONE DEAF. Wow, I thought he might be good, but he was HORRIBLE.
Okay, back to Andy Milonakis Jr., Jacee Badeaux. He’s adorable. He’s singing “Sitting on the Dock of the Bay”. Despite looking like a chubby little kid, he sounds a LOT like Justin Bieber. Chubstin Bieber? And say what you want about Justin, but he can sing, and so can Jacee. Aww, he’s cute. I bet he gets old quick, but for now…awwws!
Our last contestant of the day is equipped with a sob story. Wow, is that the first one of the show? In New Orleans? Where are all the flood survivors? I haven’t even heard the words “Hurricane Katrina” once.
Paris Tassin was the last contestant of the night, and , and sang “Temporary Home” and blew the judges away. Paris’ daughter was diagnosed with hydrocephalus, or water in the ventricles. But apart from a hearing problem, she is doing okay now. Maybe we will see more of Paris and her cute little girl.
Well, I guess that about wraps things up for tonight. Next week we’re in Wisconsin (Wis-CAN-sin). See ya then! And check back here for all the fun recaps and more Idol news!

I agree, Liz. No one’s really blown me away, but Jacee is cute, and Ronald McDonald was good. They’re the two people I’ll probably remember from this show, anyway.
20 Jebbica // Jan 20, 2011 at 9:52 pm
Wait wait wait….
CHIPCOON?!?!?!?!

22 Lindsey Pickett // Jan 20, 2011 at 9:55 pm

Here’s hoping she can sing.

Paris …something…sorry
27 Jebbica // Jan 20, 2011 at 9:59 pm
Ahh, thanks. I’ll grab it from Twitter or something. Sick daughter?
28 Lindsey Pickett // Jan 20, 2011 at 10:01 pm
had water on the brain during pregnancy. Docs told her not to have it, but she chose to anyway…i think they mentioned some heath problems but over all the kid seems healthy
29 Lizaio // Jan 20, 2011 at 10:01 pm
Paris got pregnant when she was 18, and she wasn’t ready for it, but even when the doctors told her the baby had water in the ventricles, she decided to have the baby anyway. Her daughter was born and has a hearing problem, but is really sweet and Paris’s joy.
30 Lizaio // Jan 20, 2011 at 10:02 pm
Jebbica. I just thought about Chipcoon. Wow.
31 Lindsey Pickett // Jan 20, 2011 at 10:04 pm
Geez Jess, I don’t know how you live blog, that’s just too much to keep up with. kudos to you lady.
32 Jebbica // Jan 20, 2011 at 10:09 pm
It’s nonstop typing! I feel like I don’t even really watch the episode sometimes. But it’s fun because everyone gives their 2 cents and after auditions we get crazy fans and haters and it’s really fun. And this is the greatest little Idol family we have going here!
33 Jebbica // Jan 20, 2011 at 10:09 pm
Anyway, thanks everyone who read and watched tonight; see ya next week and don’t forget to check out those recaps from Liz and Cait!
