American Idol judges didn’t feel contestant Alexis Cohen’s 1960’s image
The two-hour premiere of American Idol aired tonight, and it seemed to be the same as it always was. Despite talks that they were going to allow contestants to play instruments, I didn’t see the first one. Philadelphia yielded marginal talent and the same oddballs they always seem to have. We did see twenty-nine smiling faces in the end.
Some of the contestants, however, weren’t so happy with the results. There were a few interesting characters; one was a self-proclaimed “dork” who dressed as Princess Leia and couldn’t get over the fact that they wouldn’t give her the golden ticket to Hollywood. She claimed that the people they picked all fit some sort of cookie-cutter mold, and she was partially right. They had better take some sort of risk, because the formula doesn’t seem to be working for them. Quite a few ex-Idols have just been dropped from their record labels due to low record sales. The person I found most entertaining was judge Paula Abdul’s self-proclaimed stalker, incidentally named Paul, who, if she were a chalkboard, he “would chalk her,” and if she were a bathtub, he “would caulk her.” Despite the creepy factor (he did say he broke into her house and wore her underwear!), I found the song quite clever, and he wasn’t that bad of a singer! Needless to say, though, he was escorted out by security. Another ray of light was Alexis Cohen, the girl with glittery eyeshadow and rocker persona, who wanted to sing a Janis Joplin song and did sound a lot like Janis Joplin. Apparently, though, Janis Joplin isn’t who Simon and the gang were looking for, and they gave her the boot. And when they gave her the boot, she gave them the finger, as well as cursed and mooned the judges!
Cohen commented on our site a couple of days ago, and she’s still sore about it.
I was a Contestant, Pure HELL, They came to my house for the in home interview, and Simon says he was being fair when he tells people off? I want to know this, If They thought I was a talented boob why was his Camera Crew Sent to my house? Are you being Honest with me Simon, that My talent isn’t for your show, Or is this a sick sad joke where preying on human emotions is claimed to be good television? Was it the 1960’s image that was feared by the network?

Note For Note
A lot of people watch American Idol just for the bad auditions and the laugh-factor (me=guilty), but what does it do to these people, personally? Do the people who show up in glitter and feathers honestly think they’re the next star, or are they just trying to be ridiculous enough to get on television? Furthermore, are we ever going to see anything new? America doesn’t want Kelly Pickler Jr., Fantasia Jr., or Clay Aiken Jr. America wants a star.

I am guilty as well as watching for some of the “wack jobs” but would hope they could balance it out more to emphasize some of the real talent and give us someone to route for from the beginning. In many previous IDOL seasons when you get to the top 24, you have never seen 20 of them prior and wonder who the hell is this.
If idol would show us some of the top 20 in the audition stage, ( they know who they are already) we could grow into and route more for our favorite contestants and be real fans, as opposed to time to vote someone off, pick a number..
Just some Idol Comment

I grew up in Allentown. I am just a little embarrassed by the way she cursed and shouted after they didn’t pick her. I understand if she was upset, but represent your city with a little more class and grace. Acting like she did really just showed how “immature” she still is…..

I think her voice is great. I love the raspiness (is this a word?) anyway, i love her raspy voice. You don’t find that voice much too often anymore. Reminds me of Janis, Stevie Nicks, Grace all rolled up into one. With some coaching on her voice, I think she would make a huge rock star! I’d buy her music no doubt.

I think she was excellent. Also none of us “represent” anything other than ourselves – location is nothing more than cosmic accident and mischief.
Love to Alexis

I knew Alexis in high school and she has always been very passionate about music. She always went to karaoke to sing and her parents encouraged her to sing and make her dreams come true. She was being serious and yes she probably did believe that she was would the next star on idol. She always dressed like that and wore glittery makeup, believe it or not, this was not an act. She has so much energy and she really believes in herself and I think she was just upset that Simon and the rest of the panel didn’t see her passion. I’m sure she will be doing music in the future though, she got her name out there and got to perform on the biggest show in America. Someone out there will give her a chance, I’m sure of it. And she deserves it too!

She was not that bad but she wasnt my favorite. She should have been given the pass but be sent home quickly. As fa ras her personna is concerned, she did not have stage personality or any kind of personality for that matter.

Too dramatic. She sang sort of drunk. It made me think of the female version of modern-day hitler on acid…:S
