Brace yourselves, because what I’m about to say might come as a bit of a shock: Greatest American Dog is, without a doubt, the greatest reality show of all time. Last summer I thought that honor went to Age of Love, but this show has everything! Crazy premise? Check. Equally crazy contestants? Check. Ridiculous challenges? Check. Absurdly extravagant living quarters? Check. ADORABLE DOGS? Check! And as an added bonus, Greatest American Dog played “Atomic Dog” by George Clinton at least forty seven times in the space of an hour. Who wouldn’t love that?

Stupid pet tricks sink “Greatest American Dog”
“These unscripted shows have all grown almost indistinguishable from one another, including the trio of judges (Wendy Diamond, Allan Reznik, Victoria Stilwell) and the back-biting (in this case almost literally). To be sure, the Westminster Kennel Club is nowhere in sight for this dog show, which turns out to be (surprise!) far more about the people than the canines.”

‘Greatest American Dog’ Series Premiere Review: Put This Puppy to Sleep
The premise of CBS’ Greatest American Dog sounds more like the plot of a Christopher Guest mockumentary than a compelling reality show. Here’s the setup: 12 people with strong personalities are thrown into a house along with their canines, where they’re forced to put their pups through all sorts of wacky challenges.
As adorable as the dogs are, a show like this is only compelling if the humans are worth watching. Unfortunately, all the owners on Greatest American Dog are as bland and forgettable as a Milk-Bone. The show could have used some of the crazy personalities found on Bravo’s Showdog Moms & Dads, which aired a few years ago and featured a slew of lovable weirdos. The judges don’t fare much better. Everything about the trio is completely forgettable, with only Victoria Stillwell’s accent standing out as interesting.
Play with a real dog for an hour each week until CBS cancels this puppy. It’s a much better way to spend your time.

After the Jump
I am a dog lover and have 3 Schnauzers. I asked all my dog lover friends to watch tonight’s premier. I was so upset (as were they) when you voted Michael and Ezzie off that I cried. I think Judges were too harsh. I may not ever watch again.

Well, I do agree that they were harsh but someone has got to go each week. I really like the show and think that it is going to be fun for summer!

Michael and Ezzie were awesome! I almost cried. Michael was the best on the disco team! Michael you should be on T.V you are so funny!!You should be be proud of your selves!

Not sorry to see Michael and his dog Ezzie eliminated from the first episode. I think he thought his dog was more talented than it really was. Gotta love Ron and his skateboarding dog Tillman.
