Greatest American Dog July 10 Recap Review
CBS brought us our first installment of the Summer Reality Show Greatest American Dog tonight 
7-10-08. From watching the shown, the one thing that stands out the most is the “Frankenstein or Tootsie Roll ” creation of several other reality show formats. The 12 contestants are all put into a house ala Big Brother – The Apprentice and others, after an individual reward competition ala Survivor, one person is sent to and exiled living condition. The 12 contestants split up into 3 groups to perform in front of the Judges where one individual and dog would be eliminated from the competition ala America’s Top Model etc. There is no viewer interaction or voting in this reality show.
We started the show introducing all characters and their dogs and found out the format. As stated above, they will all be living together in a house with their dogs ala Big Brother. The judges would rate them on interaction with their dogs in terms of intelligence, obedience, teamwork as they live and train together.
The first reward competition saw all 12 contestants and their dogs play a round of musical chairs. J.D. and Galaxy won the competition and as a reward got the luxury suite or Dog Bone Suite. This was a fully decked out living arrangement that included all types of Dog Toys, Dog Treats and was made to be a mini doggie heaven. Also as the Reward Winner J.D had to pick one set of Dog and Owner to live outside in the DOG HOUSE or Greatest American Dog’s version of Exile Island. The unlucky first contestant to be sent to the uncomfortable DOG HOUSE was David and his dog Elvis.

After some awkward moments in the house and personalities of the contestants were revealed, the 12 Dog owners and pets where set up for the final contest in front of the Greatest American Dog Judges.
Three teams were created, One named Team Aloha, One Team Doggy Disco and One Team High school.
Team Disco was made up of Ron and Tillman, Michael and Ezzie, Elan and Kenja and Loria and Andrew. Their acts in front of the judges had the dogs performing simple tricks as they were decked out in disco gear. We got another chance to see dog Tillman perform on a skateboard. Michael was flamboyant and over the top in in drama queen sort of way and his dog Ezzie didn’t cooperate to Michael’s commands
Team Aloha consisted of Teresa and Leroy, JD and Galaxy, Bill and Star and Laura and Preston. As with team Disco each contestant had their dog perform tricks.
The final Team High school consisted of Brandy and Beacon, David and Elvis and Beth Joy and Bella Star and Travis and Presley.
The judges criticized each competition and gave us an American Idol style bottom 3. The bottom 3 for this week was:
Brandy and Beacon,
Beth Joy and Bella Star
Michael and Ezzie.
In the End the Judges voted off Michael and Ezzie from Greatest American Dog. Next week July 17 will be the second episode of Greatest American Dog.
