Greatest American Dog 7-17-08 Recap Review
CBS gave us the 2nd installment of The Greatest American Dog tonight. Once again this was a roller coaster of emotions for the contestants and even dog loving viewers at home. We had dog fights, a trip to the emergency room, and even emotional breakdowns and none of these were connected to the same contestants and their dogs.
We opened the show with David and Elvis whom spend the past week in the Dog House because he was sent their by the winner of the dog challenge JD. David is pretty lack with his dog and allows him to run free and basically do what he wants. Elvis was sniffing other dogs playing around, but then bit Tillman the skateboarding bulldog. David saw his dog wresting with Tillman, but neglected to do anything about it. As a result Tillman got bite and blood was drawn.
Ron said of Tillman, “He’s a Farter not a Fighter” as this was the first tussle in which Tillman had ever been involved.
Next we catch up with Bill and Star and learn that Star is more of a companion to Bill then just a pet. You can honestly see the emotion and caring involved when Bill and Star are together. Bill from Texas informs us this is the longest he has ever stayed away from home and 3 days is the longest he has ever been away from his wife. We see Bill and Star go for an early morning walk, and as Star runs farther away, we hear the yelping of a hurt dog. Bill is devastated as he finds Star has been injured and is required to go to the vet.
We see Bill with Star’s blood on his shirt and them racing to the vet in a car. Luckily, it was just a cut on Star’s ear and stitches took care of the problem.
The first Reward Challenge of the day in which one person get the Reward of the Dog Bone Suite and picks the person to live in the Dog House was about to take place. The dogs and owners where competing in the Doggie Boot Camp Challenge in which owners would say commands that the dogs had to obey.
With commands for the dogs to follow such as Stay, Sit, Assist Stay, Shake with Right hand. Move Backwards, Circle to the right, circle to the left then circle to the right contestants were eliminated until their was one winner. The winner of this weeks reward challenge was Travis and Presley.
Travis picked JD and Galaxy to Live in the Dog House for the week.
For the Immunity Challenge or Face the Judges Challenge, the owners and dogs were told they would have to perform the commands Sit, Leave it, and Heal in front of the judges with also distractions. They dogs and owners where spit into two groups.
In front of the judges the two group had to walk their dogs in front of the judges demonstration “The Heal” command, then as they set at a table were tempted with their favorite food and had to perform the “Leave It” command as not eating their favorite dog treat. Finally they had to perform the “Sit Stay” command as all the owners walked around the table as the dogs must stay put.
From this the judges would pick a bottom 3 and vote on member off Greatest American Dog. Elan & Kenji had the worst time of all the competition as Elan constantly barked commands and Kenji was not obeying 100%.
The Judges Picked Elan & Kenji, Beth Joy & Bella and David & Elvis for the bottom 3. They also picked Bill and Star as the Best In Show for the evening.
As the judges mentioned their dislike of Beth Joy Dressing Up Bella in a costume, Beth Joy about Flipped. She was very defensive and it appeared she might talk her way into being voted off the show. David was in the bottom three because of mixed hand signals he was giving to his dog Elvis. But the lack of obedience and the annoying voice commands and lack of control of the owner Elan lead Elan and Kenji top be the 2nd contestants voted off The Greatest American Dog.
What where your thoughts of the show? Who are your favorites, who do you hate? Did the Judges Make the right decsions?
