Tonight is American Idol 10 Beatles Night for Hollywood week. I’m not really sure the line of logic since there are 40 contestants and they are already singing the Beatles, but maybe it will be good. Let’s find out together, shall we? Be sure to voice your opinion in the comments section below!
Last week we paired down the contestants to the Top 40. This week we’re getting down to just 24. According to the spoilers, the Idols will be singing in pairs, and they have to learn their song in just 24 hours! That means Scotty McCreery, aka McCrappy, is probably out this week. I hope.
J-Lo is wearing lots of makeup and is back to being Unpretty J-Lo for the night. The contestants are in Las Vegas for this performance. Lauren Alaina is in a group with McCrappy, which sucks! I love Lauren and I don’t want her to go home yet. Being with Scotty is like pairing a fine cheese with Spam. Very deep-talking Spam.
The vocal coach is a total diva, and she does not like it if you mess up. She equates messing up on the stage to death. She’s awesome. You know who’s NOT awesome? All these contestants who don’t know any Beatles songs. BOO.
Jimmy Iovine has been brought in, which is pretty impressive, since he produces everyone (didn’t everyone who won a Grammy this year thank him?). He’s not really impressed with what he’s hearing.
Our first break of the night, and the teaser promises that Crazy Ashley Sullivan is going to get married during this episode in Vegas! You keep holding onto that airtime anyway you can, honey.
James Durbin and Stefani Langone are singing “Get Back” first. James Durbin just screams. I don’t know why people (Cait) like him; we already had Adam Lambert. They do okay though. Steven said he hadn’t heard two higher voices together before. I guess he’s never heard of the Bee Gees. They liked it overall.
Pia Toscano and MySpace’s Karen Rodriguez are singing next. They actually went to high school together and sang together in a group. They sing “Can’t Buy Me Love”, and Pia is better than Karen. I kind of think of them both as background singers at this point. J-Lo liked that they put on a show.
Jacob Lusk, Naima Adedapo, and Haley Reinhart are next. They’re singing “The Long and Winding Road”. Haley has a weird voice. Naima sounds good. And Jacob is crazy, but I like him. He seems a little high to me…key-wise, not the other kind. They kind of sound like a gospel group overall. Steven thought it was stupendous.
Rachel Zevita murdered “Eleanor Rigby”. Lauren Turner does okay with “Let it Be”. Tim Halperin and Julie Zorrilla (hottie and hottie) do “Something” and that was pretty awesome.
Jerome Bell’s group is next with Lakeisha Lewis and Tatynisa Wilson; they sang “I Saw Her Standing There”. Jerome and Lakeisha are good, not too sure about Tatynisa. Randy wasn’t feeling Jerome so much, but he thought Lakeisha was best. Jennifer thought Lakeisha was weak and Tatynisa was not good. Steven thought they nailed it.
Paul McDonald and Kendra Chantelle sing “Blackbird”. Paul sounds weak, and Kendra’s not much better. I thought they kind of sucked, but the judges seemed to really like it.
A quick cut to some more people who do well, including John Wayne Schulz who sang the Joe Cocker version of “I Get By With a Little Help from my Friends”.
Meanwhile, Crazy Ashley is planning her Vegas wedding. She’s wearing black pleather pants, and they’re going to the same place Britney Spears got married. And we all know how long THAT lasted. Holy crap, they actually go through with it. Now she’s not Crazy Ashley Sullivan anymore, she’s Mrs. Crazy Ashley now. The cameraman actually cried. This is show is as nuts as Ashley.
Day 2 in Vegas, and everyone on Day 1 was good, so that must mean we’re about to get some baddies. Thia Megia and Melinda Ademi are first. They sing “Here Comes the Sun”, and Thia sounds good, Melinda’s okay. They sound better together than apart. The judges weren’t blown away.
Crazy Ashley and Sophia Shorai are singing “We Can Work it Out”. Sophia is pretty good, and they actually don’t sound as terrible as I thought they would. The judges didn’t like it at all.
Next is Lauren Alaina, Denise Jackson, and Scotty McCrappy. They sing “Hello Goodbye”, it’s pretty…not very good. It was not Lauren’s best performance, but I’m partial to her so I’m blaming it on having to sing with the other two. The judges didn’t think the song was for any of them.
More contestants took risks, like Casey Abrams and Chris Medina, and Carson Higgins and Caleb Hawley…the judges didn’t like any of them but I did. Huh.
Robbie Rosen, Jordan Dorsey, and Aaron Sanders sang “Got to Get you into My Life”…it was was an okay performance that started to waver in places, but the harmonies were nice. The judges liked it.
Results! Already? Lauren, Scott, Jordan, Robbie, Scotty, Thia, all get through! Scott!! Carson Higgins, Harvard Chick Molly DeWolf, Caleb Hawley, Denise Jackson, and Crazy Ashley get cut.
Now we’re onto another hour, and we’re going to be hearing more performances and will be getting more cuts, I’m guessing. Apparently we’re just now down to Top 40. Now is the “Final Round”, as Ryan says ominously. So, what’s happening tomorrow? Why do we have 2 more hours if tonight is the “Final Round”?

Remember that drinking on the street & prostitution are illegal in Vegas. So, don’t do it just because you see others doing it!

my favorite performance was lauren denise n scotty for the exuberance n joy n humor they bring to their performance lauren is always good for a laugh like when she got steve to sit in a chair so she could sing for him or how she made him finish off his song that was classic pupil becomes the teacher moment
