Everyone is raving about Adam Lambert’s performance of “Mad World” on tonight’s Top 8 sing Songs from the Year they were Born episode. I think it sounds very similar to the Gary Jules version, which is probably more familiar to some people because it was in Donnie Darko and more recently, some video game commercial (I’m thinking Gears of War 2? I dunno.) Regardless, he kept the screaming on the DL, so I actually didn’t hate it. But no one can compete with Tears for Fears in my book!
After the jump, check out the original version of “Mad World” and the popular remake. Counting Adam’s, whose version do you like best? (note: The Gary Jules actual VIDEO is AWESOME visually! Personally though, I love a good sad guy singing at a window while another guy is doing cheesy 80s dances outside, a la Tears for Fears)

Hey I was just wondering if there was any way you could post up Danny Gokey’s performance…because I missed it today. I had a meeting at school to go to so I missed it and I heard he sung Stand By Me…which is a song that I LOVE! So if you could, could you please kindly post it for me! Thank you! Sorry for bothering.

Hey honey, I am looking for the other ones right now! As soon as I find them I will post them. I just noticed that this Adam video cuts off early so I will try to replace that as well. Thanks for your comment!

Vocally and artistically, I actually prefer Adams version over the TFF and Gary Jules versions. Another demonstration tonight of his ability to take a song and make it his and own it. He’s definitely emerged as my front-runner in the last three weeks to win it all.

I didn’t remember this song so just watched both the Tears for Fears and the Gary Jules video…gotta say, even with all the noise from the audience, liked Adam Lambert’s best…there was more emotion with his falsetto…he’s so creative…I think Idol should call this game..we knew after he sang Black or White that we had just heard the winner.

I never liked this song very much until I heard Adam sing it tonight. I vote for his version. The guy is just simply amazing, up there with my favorite singers. I am a 57 year old music head and I can’t wait to hear Adam each week. I’m seriously obsessed with his voice. Where has he been? Why wasn’t he famous before AI? How could any recording studio turn this guy away?

Wait a second… Better than the Original? TFF is still the best… Adam’s not bad, he’s definitely going to win this year… but to say it’s the best of the 3? Nah.

Adams version is the BY FAR the best!
I nevr cared for the song before, but last night I had goosebumps while he sang!
Amazing.
I rewound it about 5 times and watched it again this morning. It is the was he phrases the words – so unique and lovely!
Plus he seems to be a genuinly humble person. Confident yet humble is a rare quality.

In all the years I’ve watched AI , I have never seen such a mesmerizing performance as this one. This is better than the original. He is ,by far, the best they have EVER had on this show. Kudos to Adam. I’ll be downloading this version to play over and over. AI has a gold mine coming their way!!!!!
I also liked Allison. 16 years old and she sounds like a pro. She is the best female on this show.

I have listend to all 3 versions of Mad World and I believe Adam Lambert’s version best interpets and delivers the emotional impact the lyrics dictate. It is a mutch more powerful song the way he performed it. Nice comments from Gary Jules here: http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5hfWNjyVBXJOhMVpdkMqm-6uFeXYAD97EHSQG1

The full studio version of Adam’s “Mad World” (on youtube) is just gorgeous. This boy is now a household name. His rendition was just stunning. I wish this boy all the luck the world holds. I just LOVE this kid.

Hey, is there anyway you could link to the STUDIO VERSION of Adam’s version of Mad World? Because it’s simply amazing and I think Adam fans would really really like it.

I think Adam’s performance was fantastic….the song suited him 100%, not just musically but lyrically as well.
The clip before the performance suggested how difficult must be for a boy growing up in America not liking sports but into arts and all that………and the meaning of the song is about the difficulty of an “outsider” growing up in a stereotypical society. I doublt that both TFF and Gary Jules had the same personal experience to nail that song lyrically.

This was by far his best performance (personally). I had goosebumps.

I have never watched any Idol show with such anticipation to see what Adam Lambert will sing next. I have never waited with such anticipation for Adam’s debut CD. No other artist in my lifetime has caught my attention like he has. I
think he is the 21st century’s version of Elvis Presley. Mark my words, Adam Lambert is the
new Elvis!

I want to get in my car, turn the radio on and hear you, Adam. I want to pop in your CD and listen to it non-stop. I want to pay money to come see you in person at a concert. I want to turn on MTV and watch you in music videos…over and over again.
What have you done to me!!! lol
You are a phenomenon!

Hey Lisa, #18, I can only echo what you said. Adam haunts me now in all sublime ways. And all you DJ’s out there, get on the ball and get Adam’s studio version of Mad World on the radio!
