The American Idols are singing songs from Motown tonight, so hopefully there will be some good performances and not a lot of Adam Lambert singing Egyptian versions of songs and Scott MacIntyre singing something heartfelt at the piano.
Keep tuning in with us as we discuss who deserves to stick around another week and which Motown crooner we don’t want in our town no mo’.
This year marks Motown’s 50th anniversary. Smokey Robinson and Berry Gordy are in the house to serve as mentors.
Matt Giraud is up first, singing “Let’s Get It On” by Marvin Gaye. That should please some of the ladies! His performance seems to do the original justice. Randy said he said off the night in a good way. Simon thought it was a brilliant song choice and despite a bit of corniness midway, it was a cool performance and he is officially one of the competition’s frontrunners.
Off to a good start so far, and Kris Allen will hopefully continue that streak! He’s singing “How Sweet it is” by Marvin Gaye. Kara was happy that she didn’t do a James Taylor or Marvin Gaye rendition, he did a Kris Allen version, and he did everything right. Paula said he picked a great song and his personality is infectious. Simon thinks he needs to be more conceited.
Next is Scott MacIntyre, and we can really tell he’s blind judging by his outfit! Orange shirt and pink pants, really?! He’s singing ”You Can’t Hurry Love” by Supremes. Simon thought when Scott sang, “How much more can I take?” and he said he couldn’t take anymore. He thought it was cheap. Randy agreed with Simon, calling it “a hotel performance”.
Megan Joy is singing “For Once in My Life” by Stevie Wonder. Hopefully it will be a good song choice for her as opposed to the previous weeks and she’ll hold off on the dancing. Randy thought it was a trainwreck. Kara thought she should have done “My Guy” instead. Paula said her stunning beauty took her breath away, but the song didn’t. Simon thought she looked good, but the song was horrible.
I’m hoping Anoop will be able to top or match last week’s phenominal performance and won’t blow it! He’s singing “Ooh Baby Baby” by Smokey Robinson and The Miracles. Kara thought it was hard to do, but he did a pretty good job. Simon called it a great vocal, but he looked like he was half asleep. Randy thinks he should turn it back up next week and “get the party on”.
Michael Sarver is still here? I forgot about that. He’s doing “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg” by Temptations, which was probably the only song available with “Ain’t” in it, which is why he picked it. Paula thought it felt “Old Las Vegas loungy” to her. Simon said he couldn’t wait for it to end. Randy thought the song was too big for him, therefore it was corny.
Lil Rounds is singing “Heatwave” by Martha and the Vandellas. I am not feeling her new hairdo! Randy said the front of the song was a little bit like torture to him. Kara said she was the diva everyone was waiting to hear, but she did not sing the right song. Paula disagreed with Kara and Randy. Simon said he was authentic to Motown, but she chose the wrong song.
Next is Adam Lambert, singing “Tracks of my Tears” by Smokey and the Miracles. He looks…good tonight! Very ’50s, and I like it. His performance was soft and lacked screaming, and it was actually good! I have to give him props. Kara and Smokey gave him standing ovations. Paula called him exciting. Simon called it THE best performance of the night.
It will be hard to follow Adam, but Danny Gokey will have to. He’s singing “Get Ready” by Temptations, and he did not heed Smokey’s advice, so will the judges side with him, anyway? Simon called it clumsy and amateurish. Randy said he had a dope voice, but it wasn’t his best performance.
Allison Iraheta is last but not least, singing “Papa was a Rolling Stone” by Temptations. Randy called it blazin’ hot, Kara said she looked like she had been singing for 400 years, and Paula had a mustache drawn on her face? I dunno…back to the judging: Simon said it was one of her best performances.
So, here are my picks for tonight’s bests: Matt, Kris, and surprisingly, Adam!
Pretty good: Allison and Anoop
Okay: Lil, Danny
In trouble: Scott, Megan, Michael
Okay, those are my opinions, so let’s have yours!

Good: Kris, Anoop,
Allright: Danny, Lil
Bad: Scott, Megan, Michael
Matt is really stepping it up
I hate to admit that I liked Adam tonight but I did
Kris is a good singer and musician. He does lack the personality though
I agree w/ the judges on Anoop. He has great vocals, but he needs to be a performer all the time!
Allison rocks. I know what good singing is and I always knew she was way more diverse. I can tell by listening to her voice. She brought home tonight
Lil’, Simon was right. She should’ve chosen another song. It was too rushed! What’s up with that mop on her head too?
Danny- not bad, but not good. But sorry guys he is still my boy! There’s something about him that I love.
That was one boring performance from Scott. He needs to go home!
Megan sounded terrible. That is one thing I was always leery about her because I knew she would have a hard time as the weeks came. I am not feeling her.
Michael tried too hard for a song that wasn’t meant for him to sing. he may have a voice, but he is so not a performer. Go home already!

Wow!!!!!!, Adam brought it home. He is so diversified and has a great stage presence.
Allison also falls in this category, for someone who is 16 years old her voice defies her age, there is a great recording future waiting on her, she is phenomenal.
“Lil “really disappointed me , she comes off as not being as diversified as Allison.
Megan’s singing pales in comparison to all the others , she needs to go home.
