American Idol Season 8 Jan 27 2009 Jacksonville Review

First up is Joshua Ullola, who thinks he’s a Justin Guarini look-alike. We see how far that took Justin Guarini. He sings “Let’s Get it On” by Marvin Gaye.  We’re led to think he’s going to be terrible, but he’s actually not that bad, despite the comical sound effects.  Because the judges were entertained, he gets a ticket to Hollywood.

Sharon Wilbur is next, a pretty girl with an even prettier Shih Tzu.  She sings “Superstar” by Karen Carpenter.  She’s not terrible, but the baby singing has got to go!  Simon seems more interested in the dog.  The dog gets her a ticket into Hollywood, and for some reason, Paula and Kara start making out.

Dana Moreno is the first notable baddie of the night, a chick who thinks she’s the next big thing but isn’t…unless she’s aiming for the next William Hung.

Kaneswa Finnie is a 16-year-old singing Anita Baker’s “Caught Up in the Rapture of Love”. She’s really confident, but her vocals are definitely lacking.  Simon laughed at how terrible she was, and he made her bring her mother into the audition room.  Despite her winning smile, she is a loser in the audition room.

19-year-old beauty queen Julissa Veloz is next. She is singing Whitney, and she’s  so crazy, we think she’ll be horrible. She isn’t.  Paula pitches a fit and leaves.  Why? I dunno.  She comes back in time to send her to Hollywood.

We’re back from a long break, and bubbly Darin Darnell is up.  His best friend from auditions gets cut, and he goes in discouraged.  He’s going to sing “It’s So Hard to Say Goodbye” by Boyz 2 Men.  Calling it singing would be a stretch.  It’s not so hard to say goodbye to Darin!

Naomi Sikes is the last contestant of the day.  She is a good-looking strawberry blonde. She compares herself to Mariah Carey, which in my opinion is not a great thing, but to each his own! She’s going to sing “Loving You”, you know, that song. With the HIIIIIIIGGGGGHHHH note.  I looked down for a minute, and when I looked up, everyone was in each other’s laps! WTF?  Wow, she’s not even trying.  Last person of the day, and she’s horrible.  This has to be a joke, but she starts crying when they say she sucks.

Day 2 starts up at the half-point, and I’m hoping we’ll be treated to a little bit better talent.

16-year-old Jasmine Murray  is the first contestant of the second day.  She’s an exotic beauty, and I’m hoping she has a voice to back up the face.  She singing “Big Girls Don’t Cry” by Fergie.  I thought she was kind of nasal actually, but she gets four yeses.  At least she has a pretty face, right?

George Ramirez, a bearded Iron and Wine-looking dude is up next.  He chats with Ryan about physics and music.  Unfortunately, he sounds nothing like Iron and Wine. Go back to class, George!

A beautiful girl named Ann Marie who probably has bikini photos on the web gets an almost audition.  For some reason, despite her good voice, she gets sent out in the cold. Why?  Send her through! You sent Jesus Whatshisname and Bikini Girl through!

T.K. Hash, a man who auditioned before and didn’t make it through, is up for another try.  He sings a very Archuleta-esque version of “Imagine” by John Lennon.  They decided he had improved enough to get a golden ticket.

Michael Perrelli  had planned on playing his guitar during his audition, but was told no.  He’s singing “Jumper” by Third Eye Blind.  The guitar is his crutch, and he suffers a capella.  The judges send him out crying.

Ann Marie  Boskovich is back for another go around.  She sings “Bubbly” by Cobie Caillat and does a better version than the original.  She gets her chance (duh) and a golden ticket.  And that’s the end of the night!

Who out of these will make it to the top 36?

Stay tuned tomorrow as Idol hits up Salt Lake City.

This one was really weird for me. No one stood out, the Bad were really bad, the Geek Physics Guy, the Naomi chick and the sad boys were extremely bad.

Jacksonville only gave out 16 Golden Hollywood tickets yet no one truly shines that we saw :( IMHO
