American Idol Season 30 Jan 14 2009 San Francisco

Tickets to Hollywood:

Our first contestant of the night is Tatiana  Del Toro, a pretty-ish whimsical girl with an odd laugh. She sings an Aretha Franklin tune, then another song, then another.  She wasn’t as bad as they made her out to be, but she certainly wasn’t Top 12 material!  (But that laugh is insufferable.)

Jesus Valenzuela, a nice guy with a million kids. With his nice smile and good looks, we were led to believe he would be the next big thing, but his singing was like bland shower singing!  What?! He made it through? I was all set to put him in the Baddies category.  Proof that all you need is a nice smile and a cute kid to get to Hollywood. Or a bikini.

We get three instant tickets to Hollywood, but they flashed by so fast I didn’t even get their names. Update: Their names were John Twiford (liked that guy), Allison Iraheta, and Raquel Houghton.   It’s obvious tonight is all about the baddies!

Buzzed-about Adam Lambert finally makes his appearance. He sings “Bohemian Rhapsody”. Despite Simon saying  he was theatrical, he gets four yeses (duh).

Kai Kalama, the last guy of the day, has another heartwarming story. He takes care of his mother, who is sick and has seizures. He sings “Smoke Gets in Your Eyes” Four yeses get him through, as Kara and Simon continue to bicker.

Notable Baddies:

Dean-Anthony Bradford

Dean-Anthony Bradford

Dean-Anthony Bradford, a nutty “failed entrepreneur” with a super-cool plaid jacket.  Despite his charming personality, his singing was lacking at best.

Dalton Powell, a genius with a Rubick’s Cube. Not so much at his Smokey Robinson rendition.

Akilah Askew-Gholston

Akilah Askew-Gholston

Akilah Askew Gholston, a crazy lady who spent more time studying how to have a good voice than actually practicing her vocals. “Tray-shi-uh! It’s Tray-shi-uh!”

A cute girl named Annie Murdoch KILLED one of my favorite songs ever, “Summertime”.  Love that song, but eww!

Overall, this show was pretty murderous. No real show-stoppers, so I still stand by my original opinion…Anoop Dog for the win!!! Can’t believe some of the people they are giving tickets to this season!!!!!!!!!!

That laugh from Del Toro was insufferable, Akilah Askew Gholston with all the diagrams and mis- pronouncing words was a riot.

Kind of a weak show overall but we got a chance to meet Adam Lambert, possible the American Idol Season 8 Future Winner…

Eww, you are not serious! I know we keep hearing about him, but I thought he was terrible! Not as bad as Von Smith, but not anything to write home about! But that’s just my opinion. :p

Adam had something and the spoilers indicated he makes the top 36 at least…. I haven’t been blown away by anyone yet. Usually I have a front runner that I go with. Also look out for Felicia Barton tomorrow night from the Louisville auditions she is supposed to do well and is good, If we get to see her,,idol producers

The show was not my favorite tonight. I hope tomorrow is better. But so far I love Anoop too and Lil Rounds.
