Idol Runner Up Blake Lewis Dropped from Record Label
Blake Lewis is the latest round of Record Label causalities from former American Idol contestants. Arista that signed American Idol Season 6 Runner Up Blake Lewis around a year ago has dumped the bee-bopping, scat man, R&B singer.
Blake is the fourth Idol to be dumped by their respective labels.
Ruben Studdard released three albums before getting dropped. Taylor Hicks and Katharine McPhee got a year and a half on their post-Idol contracts before being released.
Blake’s debut album Audio Day Dream failed to chart any singles, and by Idol standards, underperformed, selling 98,000 its first week and 299,000 to date.
Blake heard the news a few days ago. He says that initially, he didn’t want to be with a major record label, but his second place win required it. Although he still had 80% control of his record, he feels that he didn’t get the support that he needed from the label.
So what will become of Blake Lewis? Will he make a comeback? or just drift away and only be remembered in a trivia question near you?

This guy never blew me away. Can he sing in key? Yes but his vocals were and are not spectacular. However, America loves the performers which treated him to 2nd place. I am glad the real singer won that year. But I think the chicks and the dudes dug the beat boxing style of the Blakester which entertained them. America loves being entertained.
