Stay tuned and keep refreshing your page as we will update the highlights as they happen!

The final three are each singing 3 songs tonight. One song has been picked out by the judges, one song picked out by the producers, and one by the contestants.

Round One: The judges’ choices

David Archuleta is first, and Paula has chosen for him to sing “And So It Goes” by Billy Joel. Randy said he was in the zone, Paula said it was a beautiful performance, and Simon said it was a bit predictable, but it was good.

Syesha Mercado is next and Randy’s choice for her is “If I Ain’t Got You” by Alicia Keys. Randy said she was peaking at the right time in the competition, Paula said she was happy Syesha was the last lady standing, and Simon said she looked gorgeous but her version was too much like the original.

David Cook is third, and Simon’s choice for him is “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face” by Roberta Flack. Randy said he wished Simon had picked a different song that was more “rockin”, Paula said that it was one of her favorite songs and he was her second favorite performer to sing it, and Simon said it was one of his best performances to date.

Round Two: The contestants’ choices (after the jump)

David Archuleta’s pick for his second song is “With You” by Chris Brown. Randy said it was odd hearing him sing that song, Paula said he did a great job, and Simon said he applauded him for not doing a ballad, but it was a little like “a chihuahua trying to be a tiger”.

Syesha Mercado picked “Fever” by Peggy Lee for her second song. Randy said she sang it amazingly well, Paula said she sang beautifully but she wasn’t sure it was the best song choice, and Simon said she had the chance to show how she could be a contemporary recording artist, but instead she messed it up with that “lame cabaret performance”.

David Cook chose “Dare You To Move” by Switchfoot for his personal song. Randy said it was a little pitchy, Paula said she wanted more, and Simon said it wasn’t the best song in the world and it was just an “okay” middle round.

Round Three: Nigel’s Picks

Nigel chose “Longer” by Dan Fogelberg for David Archuleta. Randy said it was another hot performance, Paula said it was very lovely, and Simon said he thought he sang the song very well, but the song itself and the lyrics were horrible and very gooey.

Nigel’s pick for Syesha is “Hit Me Up” by Gia Farrell. Randy said it was just okay, Paula said she didn’t know if it was good enough to get her into the finals, Simon said her best moment was last week with the Sam Cook song and this song was forgettable.

David Cook is the final performer of the night, and Nigel’s pick for him is “I Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing” by Aerosmith. Sounded better than the original to me, but then again I hate the original! Randy said it was “okay,” Paula says “see ya in the finals,” and Simon said it was one of the great songs of all time, and “David Cook wins the night.”

Who do you think did the best and the worst this week? Who is going home next?

In my opinion David Archuleta wins the whole thing! And if he doesn’t he definitely got robbed. People are crazy and they’re looking for a rocker, and I’m for all rock but look at the vocalas… David A stomps all over David C. I’m not one of those people who is going to say that David C has no skills. He does. but I just don’t think he measures up to Archuleta as far as pure talent goes.

Lauren i dont know what vocal ability you are talking about..David cook can tend to get pitchy sometimes, but that happens when you take challenging songs like he does.Unlike taking 7 or 8 range note songs like david A only cos david A doesnt have a great range.I am a music producer in Asia and beleive me i know what i am saying..cheers..But Daivd A is good, just not as good though…

Lauren, I agree with you. Azi Sheriff, this ain’t Asia. I am a bit of a singer in the USA and I know music and who has better vocals. Of course David C is great, but David A has the better vocals and he does have a great range. He would even have a better range if he didn’t go through having vocal paralysis. Trust me that kid would crush the competition each time if he didn’t have those issues. You don’t know the ability of Archuleta. You’ve only seen bits and pieces. So that’s that! I am rooting for him to win. If he doesn’t remember he is only 17 and has so much growing to do and will blow us away as time goes by. David Archuleta IS #1!

I am a David Cook Fan since the Top 12. Never really cared about David Archuleta. He has talent, no doubt, but something about the 17 year old robot turns me away from him and towards an older more mature David Cook.

If they were both the same age, either David C younger or David A older, then I might just favor David Archuleta.

But the one good thing about American and American Idol we can all route for our own favorites and it’s still just a contest. In the end whom ever wins, wins and in the grand scheme of things doesn’t truly matter :)
